The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 General Discussion - - Part 86

Goodbye you awful, awful movie.

Now I want to go back and watch TASM2 just to laugh at it.

Ultimately, this is for the best. I liked some things about the Amazing Spider-man franchise and in TASM-2. But there were too many plot lines that couldn't be resolved or would lead to an unsatisfying conclusion, as well as trying to expand into a universe that had no reason to be expanded.

The only people I feel bad for in this entire series is the cast. That's it.

Sony made me despise movies with my favorite character, which is something I thought was pretty much impossible to happen to me as a Spidey fan.

It sucks that Andrew Garfield is getting the boot. He was the best Spidey we had.

I for one would've much preferred they complete the ASM trilogy before joining Marvel.

The ASM franchise got way to much flack. The first was good and the second disappointing but THOR 2 and Iron Man 2 were disappointing and they didn't get canned after that.

If Sony hadn't put so much money in they'd have been fine and the series could've continued and probably delivered a great movie. They've only made two bad spider-man movies out of five. With one of those five being the best marvel movie of them all

If not for Andrew Garfield and Webb ruining the franchise, this might not have happened.

So thanks are owed I suppose.

Much like Batman & Robin led to Nolan and The Dark Knight Trilogy. Batman & Robin was one of the best things to happen to comic book movies. It told studios that fans wouldn't just tolerate any piece of crap that had their favorite heroes in it. Some people ignored that message (*cough* Rothman *cough*), but for the most part the impact of B&R on the genre was nothing but positive.

Now because of this deal we know that TASM2 is Spider-Man's Batman & Robin.

I agree with this.

I will say this, Sony did an excellent job in the relationships with Peter, Gwen, Captain Stacy, the father story, and Aunt May. Unfortunately, they got everything else wrong... from Uncle Ben, to every villain.

the villains were boring and not used correctly at all... and unfortunately, they sell the story. if you don't have good villains, you don't have good movies.

i agree with that. I Marvel must really want a long lasting spidey to go younger.. because I think Garfield could have played Pete for another 5 years easily.

Garfield got a good majority of everything right. Im kinda shocked Marvel didn't want a "soft" reboot ala The Incredible Hulk, where it may be some of the same cast members (though incredible hulk didn't do this) but the story is set in a different universe and the previous events are ambiguously left.

meaning... gwen could already be dead, we already know the ordeal about his parents.. and he's already fought some villains. now go!

I completely hated anything to do with Peter's father in these movies. It neutered the impact of Uncle Ben on Peter's life and was unsuccessful in trying to add a layer of mystery to the franchise.

It simply wasn't needed.

it was over flooded too heavily for sure.

I honestly think it should have been handled quickly and easily... the flashbacks were fine of them leaving peter, and the plane crash.. but that's where the focus should have ended. Have a villain like Chameleon come for Richards work... Ben gets killed, mourns after been (not his parents who've been long dead) and go from there.. their death story/mystery should only be used as a minor point in a greater villain plot. and that's it

Because they weren't as disappointing as ASM2 was. Their critic scores are better than ASM2's. Their audience scores are better than ASM2's. They actually were profitable in the box office unlike ASM2.

The other superhero film-producing studios would kill to have "disappointments" like Marvel's.

I was hoping to see Electro and Gwen in some form again. They're acceptable sacrifices for the greater good, but I'm still a little melancholy about that.

Six Reasons Why 'Batman and Robin' Was The Best Comic Book Movie Ever [Rant]

Funny how you forget to mention those two little X-movies that came out in 2006 and 2009,the latter of which is worse than anything MS or Sony have ever done. By that logic, the X-Men movies should have been canned too. At least X3,SM3,IM2 and TDW were better received and actually made profits for the studios,ASM2 didn't do any of that. Spider-Man fans have been literally alienated by those movies,so much so that at the moment many are not interested in a big-screen adaptation of the character anymore.Hopefully they(WE) will be excited again by the time the new Spidey gets showed.

Sony has never gotten Spider-Man right, whether it was with Raimi or with Webb, Peter Parker was portrayed as this emo navel-gazing whiner. And there was far, far too much emphasis placed on Peter Parker rather than Spider-Man.

Marvel will give us Spider-Man done right, and for the first time.

I'm not going to gloat in the faces of fans who liked the TASM movies, because it sucks when a franchise you love ends, but personally I am so glad they are over. There was very little I liked about them. I am just grateful they only lasted two years and two movies. Don't think I could have stomached much more.

I really miss the feeling I got waiting for each Spider-Man film to come out in the Raimi days. It was always this pure joy where with the Webb films it was agony. "Please, PLEASE don't suck!"

Hope those days are over.

I don't want to do a victory lap because MCU still has to produce. Hate to come back here after another TASM2 quality movie.

I gave the franchise two chances and I didn't see any growth in quality.

Sony's first mistake was doing another origin story. I always felt that doing another origin story would be a terrible way to reboot the series and would kill the new franchise's momentum right out of the gate.

Thanks again for this, Mr. J.

I really am glad that the rest of you Spidey fans got what you've been wanting. It's gonna take awhile to get over this one though. I had so much hope for the future of the franchise. :csad:

The true tragedy of the TASM franchise is that there was potential in it. The first film, while not the best, was still pretty good. And TASM-2 had some things that I liked but ultimately was bad. There was potential here, but it was squandered by a studio that didn't let the talent of the actors or the director come out and cared mostly about making money and catching up with Marvel

TASM series was just awesome. They will always hold a special place on my shelf and I will never stop watching them.
