How do you TASM series fans feel about the direction of Spider-Man now? Are you guys disapointed they chose not to continue with the Webb and Garfield series?

I was a Raimi series fan and I was pretty jaded when I heard news of the the new Webb reboot when that came out.

I'm still disapointed, but what else can I do? Almost half-year has passed since the deal was announced. To me, those two movies were great, and I can watch them anytime I want. At least, it's something

About the actual direction of Spider-Man, I'm okay. It's interesting to me, but no more than that. What I don't want to see is a love triangle. I'll surely go watch it.

Co-signed on this point. Marvel seems to have an aversion to letting Spidey get too far past puberty. It's logical to think that after 2 live-action versions, each of whom dealt with high-school problems, Marvel Studios would let Peter grow some stubble and bypass homework worries to live in the adult world of the MCU. No dice. They're going to retcon punch him back to the world of lockers and class bells. Even though I'm always excited to see more Spidey, I wish he could grow up a little.

It played only for the 1/3 of the first Raimi film, and was a bonafide subplot in the first TASM. This will be the first time Spiderman's highschool life is played up at full.

True, and the reality is , Sony's original intention with the ASM series was to explore the HS Peter Parker in addition to the whole background of his parents. It was only with ASM 2 that they abandoned those ideas , got him out of hs and shifted the focus to world and sequel building. So its not as if Marvel have been the only ones with the desire to take the character back to HS . The whole original point the ASM reboot was to give a younger, teenage Peter dealing with teenage problems because the Raimi version was basically a grown man, and his story had been played out.

Imo, Marvel in lot of ways is following through with some Sony's original intentions for the ASM series, albeit this time in the MCU and with the intention of staying on track.

I was a Raimi series fan and I was pretty jaded when I heard news of the the new Webb reboot when that came out.

I have mixed fells. When raimi ended I was really made because I thought spider man 1 was great and I thought spider man 2 was even better. Sm2 is my second favorite movie off all time even today. Spider man 1 I don't think is great any more just good because it has not aged while both CGI wise and just over all entertainment wise compared to a lot of CBM where Sm 2 is still up there in both of those things and while I thought 3 would be much better then it was I still liked it and thought its problems got blown up to much. So I wanted a sm 4 and thought the reboot would suck. When the first trailer came out I though this is going to suck but was hoping for the best. Then when the 2nd trailer came out I thought it looked better but still though it looked just ok. My Hype was only at like a 5 and only because it is spider man was it even that high. When I went and saw the more I wasn't not expecting much but I liked it didn't love it but liked it.

Then when asm2 started having previews I thought it looked amazing and my hype for it was pretty high like a 9. Then reviews started to come out and I was getting nervous. I then went and saw the movie and loved it and felt like I saw a different movie because I fell like most of the things people complain about is just BS or not has big of a problem has people say. I have never been so confused by reviews has I was with this movie. I saw it 3 times in theaters and I loved Garfield in asm1 but loved him even more in asm2. While I still like tobey I thought Garfield was much better. Now because I like asm1 and loved loved asm2 I am mixed felling's with this whole thing for sever reasons.

There are 5 main things to me that even if I like the marvel spider man movie are almost for sure going to be worse then asm2 or that I am questioning going forward. First the soundtrack Asm2 is my second favorite CBM soundtrack off all time and like my 3erd favorite soundtrack off all time. Garfield is going to be just about impossible to top so even if I like thee new guy I am still most likely not going to like him has much has Garfield. Garfield was just perfect. The asm2 suite was perfect and I don't really see a way the suite can be any better. So those are 3 things I am expecting will be worse and then the other 2 things that I am unsure about are peter back in high school. I fell like it would be better to go forward and have a old peter and then lastly I am not has big of a fan off the MCU has a lot of people and find them overrated. The only great MCU movie to me is Winter solider. I think AOU and the first avengers are good but not great and I think iron man 3 is kind of good same thing with GOTG. The rest of the MCU movies I find to be ok or bad. I have not seen incredible hulk so that to me is 5/10 of the movie are kind of good or better and the other 5 are bad.

Now I know that is a lot of negativity towards this whole reboot but at the same time I had a lot of douts about asm1 and 2 and ended up liking them so that could happened again with this reboot and also after all the leaks about sony and what they may or may not do I fell like sony had no idea what to really do going forward. So part of me fells like asm3 or sinister six or what ever could have been really bad. I think if sony didn't edit so much that both asm1 and even more so asm2 would have been consider much better. Most of the things that people complained about with asm2 would have either been greatly improved or completely fixed if they didn't edit so much out of the movies. I know that was a long answer but that was the best way I could think to explain how I fell.

We've saw plenty of his high school social interactions in SM1 and TASM1. We saw him graduate in SM1 and TASM2. That's not "barely", that's more than enough.

The funny thing is while the movies keep wanting to associate Peter with high school for the vast majority of his comic history he's been out of high school.

I think it was only his first 27 issues or something he was a high school student.

I think it's a good compromise of still being young and vibrant as a character but not actually having to be a kid.

The way the reboots keep de-aging peter, the next iteration will start him in middle-school...

me too to be very honest.. more mature (and far better stories) plus.. he only spent what.. the first 30 issues in HS? I don't get the obsession of a HS spidey...

Peter was the first teenage superhero. It's part of what made him so unique. And even though he was only in HS for the first 25 issues or so...look at the amount of villains introduced in that time, Chameleon, Vulture, Doc Ock, Sandman, Lizard, Electro, Mysterio, Green Goblin, Kraven, and Scorpion.

I think an older, more mature Parker works too but in light of him coming into the MCU with a plethora of older and mature heroes, his teenage unique-ness will make for a great compliment to the characters already present. And, if they do this correctly with his own solo films, we can watch Peter grow up on screen into a more mature adult just they way Stan and Steve had intended. That's how they wrote Peter. There was this natural progression of growth to Peter Parker over the years and those people reading the comics back in the day were able to watch him develop over the course of time.

An adult Peter at this current juncture would have a tough time distinguishing himself from say Antman/Hank Pym for one. Introducing a kid into this dangerous world of Superheroes, actually played by a teenager, or atleast a very young looking adult (Tom Holland will be 20 by the time he shoots Spiderman), creates a more distinct dynamic. It would also allow him to grow into the role, and feel like the comics. Because at the end of it all, Spiderman is a coming of age story masked as a comic book.

I guess it was just an idea. I'm sure Dennis was talking about "The Clone Saga". And I truly believe that "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" would have had a totally different plot, maybe with the appearance of the Sinister Six.

That's only a small part of Spidey's history, but there is an over-reliance on it in non-print adaptations. It's also the story about a grown man juggling professional responsibility, romantic entanglements, financial problems, and caring for the aging woman who served as a his mother figure. Those aspects never get the attention they deserved when Spidey's always being retcon punched back to study hall.

It's not all doom and gloom with this series, there are some very cool and some very notable moments.

It's comforting to have 5 films to re-watch while we wait for the Webhead to enter the MCU.

If Robert Schwentke found work after RIPD and Jimmy Hayward is still working after Jonah Hex, then a slightly underperforming Spidey film should be no sweat for Webb.

Good for Webb for being so classy about it. I feel kinda bad for the guy, he clearly loved the character and although his take wasn't everybody's favorite, he also definitely got caught in the crosshairs of a lot of Sony incompetence. I think he'll be just fine though.
