All the talk of how they had the script early. Never considering that it was still a very short turnaround even if they started writing the script at the start of 2012. Not mention they were tinkering throughout. Second, never considered who was writing. Talented screenwriters could have made this work. I don't feel they had that.

Nope, they had none of that. It shows. This is a perfect example of a film that badly needed 3 more drafts before filming.

3 more drafts by other people. But yep, feels like a good outline of a strong Spidey film. It needed reworking by a deft touch. Oh, and for the studio to leave the film alone after it was done. Not start coming up with great brand expanding ideas.

I saw it earlier today and I liked it. To be honest,I still love and prefer Raimi's trilogy, but I liked ASM 2. It was a HUGE step up from the previous one. It wasn't without it's problems though. My pros and cons...

PROS

Like many,I loved Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone's chemistry. As much as I love Raimi's series,Garfield and Stone's attraction and chemistry blows Tobey and Kirsten's away. I really felt they were a legit couple and I invested in that, and them.

The action was great. I loved the Times square battle and the fight between Spidey and Goblin(as brief as it was). The CGI was also pretty good. Though,at times it felt like I was watching a video game.

I really loved Dane Dehaan. I though he stole the show.

Gwen's death. It was emotional and to be honest,I teared up a bit when it happened. Like I said before,Emma was great(in both films). So,when Gwen died,I bought it because I was so invested in her as a character. Pretty heartbreaking, even if I did see it coming.

Cons

The film was too long and alot of scenes didn't need to be there. I guess you could call it a bit overstuffed. Like I mentioned,I didn't care for Peter's whole search about his parents. And when he finally does find out about them it wasn't all that surprising or important anyway. Plus,as much as I loved Peter and Gwen, there were a few too many scenes of them and this "will they or won't they" kinda stuff.

Those scenes with the German doctor. Dr. Kafka,I believe? What was that?! That was super cheesy and stupid. He seemed like a reject from an Allied propaganda film from the 40's.

I thought Electro was ok,but not exactly a great villain. As Max he really didn't gain any sympathy from me and once he became Electro he basically spouted off cheesy lines. My main disappointment was with the Green Goblin. First off,he didn't even look like a Goblin. Say what you want about Raimi's Power Ranger suit from the first Spider-man,but at least he looked like a goblin. Dehaan's version looked like he stuck his finger in a light socket. But,despite the look I did like his version, although the Goblin in this film was reduced to what felt like a cameo. I wanted more. Hopefully,he'll be back in part 3...with a bigger role.

Overall,I enjoyed it. But it did have it's share of flaws. I'd rate it... 6.5 out of 10

Agreed. You can't get too greedy, especially if you're trying to sell people on this type of shared universe. I get Sony doesn't get the 2 films a year Marvel does, but that still doesn't mean we needed an easter egg somewhere every half a second or needed too many plotlines! Sometimes, less is more.

Not only was this a promotion of violence against women, it was also potentially racist.

Spare me. I know you don't like me so just don't respond mmkay? It doesn't matter that they were talking loudly in Spanish, just that they were talking loudly.

And violence against women? That's a major stretch and I said nothing of the sort so  right back to you. I wanted to slap both parents, not just the woman.

Seeing as I'm a woman myself, I don't promote any sort of violence against women and you're just being absurd to suggest it.

Back from seeing it a 2nd time... and I must admit, I feel way more forgiving towards it. The stuff that doesn't work just doesn't, there's just no way around it. But what does is straight up my alley, and ranges from good to very good, and occasionally -1, 2 times at most- great. I usually roll my eyes at comments like "A second viewing helps so much!", because if it doesn't leave a mark the first time that's just bad evidence right there. But what can I say, I liked it more this time. Expectations, baby.

It's not a perfect film, it is NOT the best Spidey movie (Seriously, guys. Come on.), and the villains are a bleeping disgrace... but 54%? Get the **** out of here, Rotten Tomatoes. I honestly cannot understand how anyone can call this worse than TASM1.

Random anecdote: A moron chose exactly the Moment of Moments to whip out his iPhone. I felt like murdering him.

Sounds eerily like my experience. The lights went down and I was so excited, and then a family of 4 (father, mother, kid around 4 and infant) come strolling up the aisle - literally a baby in a stroller, and the mother with the infant sits right next to me. Needless to say they absolutely ruined it for me, i couldn't concentrate on a thing being said onscreen with the mother rocking the baby and hitting me in the process. The other kid was whining to go home through the 2nd half of the movie.

How the hell they got into the theater with a stroller and infant I don't know.

I feel your pain, brother, and am impressed you were able to give it an 8 given what you had to contend with!

Oh god that sounds awful! I don't understand why parents do that. They must know it will distract everyone else in the theatre.

You know, going to the movies isn't cheap and I've read about members here who sometimes do not have the money to even go. If I had to save up to go to the theatres, I would lose my **** if parents and their noisy children ruined it for me.

That's one of the reasons I don't go to movies much anymore. Some people are either that stupid or that ignorant. They don't seem to realize or care that alot of us there want to watch the movie in peace. Babies crying, kids whining and people talking through the movie...UGH!! :cmad:

What I don't understand is why they decided to start tweaking. It was completely unnecessary. There was plenty of Sinister Six seeds just with Electro, Rhino and Harry doing their thing.

Which is exactly why you didn't need to mention it. And I'll respond if I feel like it.

They didn't. Sony forced too much into 1 movie. It hurt the core story. When the core story is hurt and your movie loses focus, stuff needs cut.

I would have said any language. You're a real gem

Ignore. Unless you feel that being on the ignore list would promote violence against Internet jerks :whatever:

But that is the thing, they did cut. What they did seem to cut though was stuff important to this film, and not the branding. I understand that apparently they were forced to cut the Goblin/Peter after fight beatdown do to the rating, but they that doesn't explain why they left other Harry stuff on the cutting room floor.

Not that the movie was ever going to be perfect. But there is a decent chance there is a better cut of this film out there. One that didn't feel the need to link Rhino to the Sinister Six and allowed Harry more character and time.

My thing is...I'm fairly certain that we've all either had a movie ruined by a screaming kid, or at the very least, known someone who it has happened to. We all know how it feels, so how on earth does someone actually become that parent? How does one rationalize that? I find it so bizarre. It would be like going to a library with a boombox on your shoulder while people are trying to study; it just defies logic no matter how I imagine it.

It is your choice whether you put me on the ignore list or not. Really isn't my problem.

Did they cut Peter beating down Gobby in the climax after the battle???

Not gonna lie...that slightly angers me. I felt we needed something like that in the movie, and the fact they filmed it and cut it.....:cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad:

Not all kids cry at the movies. Babies yes, but little kids can be quite good. I had a few at my showing who were extremely well behaved.

And this is a Spider-Man film. I'd understand if they brought a bunch of little ones to see 12 Years a Slave or the Wolf of Wall Street. But Spider-Man is for the little ones. It is like expecting little kids not to be seeing Pixar films. I think we all should consider when we started going to the movies. I was very young. We started taking my niece when she was 2, maybe 3. She never had those problems.

That right there frustrates me more than anything else about the movie. They had a brilliant idea of where to take this film, and squandered it by trying to do too much, and several IMPORTANT plotlines in this film either were meaningless or just flat out sucked. The ending of this movie deserved to be in an ELITE Spider-Man film. Not the worst film of the series. I absolutely hate that the film's ending is 100% wasted and lost in the garbage.

I think thats the most frustrating aspect of this movie and the reason for the mixed reaction. When it shines, it REALLY shines, there are some great moments here, but then straight after there is a terrible moment or something eye roll worthy, its a real shame. The script and final movie needed more work, I think they need to get focused on what movie they are making before they start shooting.

TeeKay saw a cut before they messed with it. Harry starts laughing at Peter after [BLACKOUT]Gwen dies[/BLACKOUT]. Pete loses it and proceeds to beat the hell out Harry. And it makes sense. Harry getting knocked out looks horrible and probably was added pretty late.

Exactly. You can't make a Spider-Man film on the Charlie Chaplin just shoot crap and then edit it into something cohesive at a later date style of filmmaking. It doesn't work. Yet, that is what they did and it shows! Argh!!!! Frustrating :cmad:

...........That makes me kind of want to crash Sony's office and break stuff................. :cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad:

*Counts to 10*

And that is where I will agree on your dislike of Webb here. That is just as much on him as it is the writers and producers.

Some of these cut scenes will no doubt make it to the blu-ray. The Goblin fight has to be extended.

this movie could have used a rewrite to the script...

i´m hoping Sony is smart and at least release a director´s cut later, it could result like DD and be better than the theatrical cut

I was really ticked off but I couldn't leave as I went in a group and didn't want to ruin for the rest. But yeah, I was seething.

It's obvious some people have zero consideration for others, and it's a crying shame.
