I think the most concerning thing for Sony fans should be that the company itself doesn't believe in the product it has delivered.

If Sony still had a definitive plan for the series and produced the kind of numbers it did for TASM2, the company would most likely try to muster out one more film. However, no S6 news, no denial of the MCU and Garfield rumors, and the overall drought of news that we went through after TASM2 indicates to me that something is going on.

That's what I'm hanging on.

Very true. X-Men: DOFP was a huge success both critically and financially. Fox had a lot of faith in their film and was confident enough to bring back Bryan Singer for X-Men: Apocalypse. They have a real solid plan, at least for the next film. Sony does not. They spent all this time teasing and hinting, throwing in easter eggs and announcing a list of spin-offs, yet they don't have a damn clue as to what to do or where to go next. May god have mercy on us all...

And a Sinister Six film is not going to be cheap. You have six villians with distinct designs and require a certain level of CGI and practical effects, so you can imagine this will be another $200M+ budget film. Then the movie is going to need a good marketing campaign, so thrown in another $100M (knowing Sony it'll be more than that). And let's not kid ourselves... this isn't going to make good money. It probably won't reach the success of Thor: TDW. If this film makes any less than $500M, then it would just be a big, giant waste of time and money.

There's no point in being upset and what might have been. It's a movie. Could have been good, could have been awful. No guarantee either way.
That's very true, you're right. Unfortunately, it's me though. Even if I try not to be upset about it, it's not gonna work out so well. :funny:

Daltonio, if you have the time, you should definitely join my TASM comic book continuation project! It's a lot of fun
I'm definitely looking forward to what you guys come up with but... I don't know, I don't have any talents that could help your project, lol.

Well technically, we did get a denial of the Civil War rumors from Sony via CBR. Everyone here seemed to just brush off the denial, but at least we got something. I do get what you're saying though, even that wasn't much of anything. :csad:

Well to be fair, Sony also denied the Aunt May movie rumors but yet we found out it was an idea in the leaked e-mails.

Plus, it was the exact same wording used from the denial of the Aunt May rumor.

Heck, get Joss Whedon on the job. He's done with Avengers 2 and I think he would be PERFECT for a Spider-Man movie.

I've been saying that since Avengers came out. Sitting in the theater watching it, I thought, "THAT is how you handle a Spider-Man movie!" From there I started looking into other Whedon projects and it only convinced me more that he would be perfect!

Joss won't take on Spider-Man... Although that would be SUCH an awesome movie. If there's anyone that could nail Spidey's humor it's Joss. However, I just don't think he would be up for it. It's like the coach of a team moving down to offensive coordinator, in the grand scheme of things.

I'm not sure he would look at it that way. Sure the Avengers are big, but Spidey is arguably among the top 3 super heroes. Plus Joss is good with an ensemble, and I'm sure he'd be great with Pete's cast of supporting charcaters. In fact, I'd love Spidey to be handled as a Netflix show.

I don't see Spectacular Spider-man here. I want season 3 dammit! :argh:

Believe me, I'd love for more Spectacular. Maybe as a side to the deal I wrote up, Sony would release the IP to Spectacular to Marvel Animation (provided they are serious in wanting to move away from their current philosophy on cartoon shows).

But then, in my dream scenario, Feige hires Weisman to plan out the Spider-Man films!

Sony only has ONE good option.

As a kid, I remember her on the Flying Nun. Believe me, if you could get into a time machine to do that movie, I'm in! :yay:

I'm curious as to who you'd cast for a live-action "adaptation" of TSSM, especially if you'd have Weisman map out the franchise. :cwink:

Thank you for this, WGP.

I was trying to say something similar, but I think you summed it up better than I could. I really wasn't intending to troll anyone, I was just expressing my excitement after reading the article just like I'd expect any of you guys to do when news about a possible deal comes out. I have a feeling I might have already been put on his ignore list though... Oh well.

Don't mention it :yay:

You don't have to defend your position every time. It's basically a double standard for you to not be able to express the same joy everyone else is over news that they like to hear. It's unfair for you to be considered a troll just because you're in the minority.

If you got put on the ignore list for that, then you're better off that way.

Pretty much what PBP said. Furthermore, why did they specifically deny the CW rumors and nothing else?

I'm starting to get a feeling that both companies are going to play coy about all of this now, and something may have already happened. Maybe I'm seeing through the MCU shades, but something could have happened and Marvel just doesn't want to kill the hype it would receive, say, in a AoU post credits scene.

I honestly would just want a confirmation of "Yes, Spider-Man is joining the MCU. Details are not yet known, but Marvel and Sony have reached an agreement that will allow for Spider-Man to appear in the MCU."

I'm trying to think of what else I could add to this, but you've just about hit the nail on everything.

This supplements my initial post perfectly

I also rather see him have a Netflix series. Advertise the series Breaking Bad quality. It's Marvel, it won't be hard.

I would love a Spider-Man netflix series only in addition to Spider-Man films. The main films would be all about Spider-Man and such (that's where the good special effects and action would take place) and the show could be about the Daily Bugle or something. Extend the universe.

What I would really like is every single comic book issue of ASM to be adapted to live action television with full cgi, stunts, music and everything. I know this can't happen with our technology now since making each episode would cost a fortune, BUT JUST IMAGINE IT!!!
I would keep the cast of TASM and have the score be a blend of all of the spiderman scores from the films.

That sounds pretty awesome. If marvel gets the rights then I so hope that this happens.

I don't see TASM3 and S6 happening at this point, for the simple reason that we haven't heard a single damn thing about either from Sony.

I wouldn't mind Marvel getting the rights, that would actually be cool. I would just REALLY REALLY REALLY miss Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and TASM responsibility stuff and the Gwen stuff.

Plus we've also established that those films have a low chance of being a critical and box office success.

They have one paddle that is snapped in half. They can use that, or let Marvel come on over with their motorboat and give them a hand.

The latter scenario seems more and more likely with each passing day. **** Creek is not the place to go overboard.
