To the people that think it's a financial failure, it's actually doing great. Especially considering the fact that it already beat iron man, captain America, Thor, and the hulk in box office. Plus is half of the Avengers and is about to beat iron man 2.

Iron Man and Iron Man 2 were ultimately far more successful than TASM.

And I don't think a Spider-Man movie beating a Thor/Cap movie is really worth celebrating, I mean this is Spider-Man we're talking about, reboot or not.

.... What are you talking about? It DESTROYED Iron Man 1 and is about destroy 2 with only 10-20 million. Maybe not Captain America, but definitely Thor because that made like over 400 mil. Plus, it doesn't exactly need to be the same gross as Sam Raimis cheesy flicks to considered successful. And it's a reboot and it only has been here a few weeks it's not done yet.

Both Iron Man's grossed far more domestic than ASM. If you are talking about overseas numbers, obviously Spiderman is a lot more popular than Iron Man. Even then, it won't end up doing that much more WW.

Had Sony gone forward with SM4, the movie would have still had a shot to post close to a billion. But interest in the franchise was starting to fade and there was no way it was going to improve on previous marks set by SM1 and SM3.

Iron Man 3 will probably gross 800 million if it is half way decent, because the popularity of the character has grown to such an extent since 2008. Unless the movie is crap which is a possibility.

No sorry, not great. As someone earlier posted, if you know how the numbers work, they haven't broken even yet. At the current rate they will not likely do so in theatres. But almost half of a movies revenues come from video (all formats), PPV, pay TV so it will make a nice little profit when all is said and done.

Its sequel is guaranteed so why worry. Better focus on drawing back those who didn't like it and trying to broaden the audience.

I mean in TOTAL it may not finish in domestics, it destroyed iron man 1 and 2 in foreign. Plus, it's not done yet.

600 mil in only a few weeks isn't great? Yeah, ok. Plus it only needs 2 mil to finish its supposed domestic budget.

Almost 300,000 voters and I can't use the ASM user score?

Nice try, buddy.

When has additional user ratings caused a movie's rating to drop 30 points?

People are going to suddenly think ASM is terrible. If anything the score will go up as casual fans discover ASM on dvd and tv and see it is severely underrated.

SM3 has dropped quite a bit in the past few months on RT. It will happen to ASM in a few years when they reboot it again.

$600 million WW is okay...it's no way great. The budget was $230 million. Seeing as studios get less than half of it's domestic theater run, matching its budget domestic doesn't mean anything. Studios get even less overseas. Someone posted the percentages but it's considerably less than half. That doesn't even count advertising costs. It will make a profit and it is in no way a failure by any means. We will get a sequel. But...it didn't do great. It did average/ok. If it had been made for about $150 million...then yes this would be a slam dunk.

I wouldnt consider it "ok" especially since its only been a few weeks and it's still July.

Overseas made this movie go from "average" to "good" in the Box Office. Thanks outsiders.

It's box office is almost done. It made only $10 million this weekend. Less than $5 million next weekend. TDKR is now in theaters. It's pulling third place now...it's in the retirement home. It will crawl to around $700 WW...which is ok for its budget. It would be amazing for a $100 million movie. If I make a $500 million movie and it makes $1 billion WW...that's not that good.

Top 3 isn't so bad... Except ice age 4.... Those movies stopped mattering since the first. Don't assume things yet, sheesh... And what?! If that were the case, you would not get the budget back, but also 500 mil extra. Financially, it's a good thing, because making 1 billion is considered a tough thing to do and no movie has made over 2 billion and beyond.

The numbers are there to read, there is no big mystery here. You have to separate your analysis from your emotions.

The movie took a 70% (give or take a point) dive at the box office that week. The per screen average was under 1000.00. That means it's going to lose a lot of screens very quickly. It is 20 days in and even with a charitable guess of 50% drops, it will peter (no pun intended) out at 250ish million.

Considering the somewhat narrower target audience this time, that's a solid number. The movie had some questionable marketing (Hardys...really?) that didn't help either.

Considering drops will be between 50% or higher every week, that means it will make $5 million or less next weekend, then maybe 2 mil, etc. It is almost done pretty much. It won't make a whole ton more.

Well in that case, we can move onto DVD sales. Which probably won't make much.

all those movies had lower budgets you fail to mention that.also if you talking about overseas money they only get 15% of that compared to 55% of the domestic gross.if those movies had lower budgets guess what there profit is higher than amazing spidermans with lower grosses.

It did beat captain America and hulk, they only made double their budget. Plus, it isn't a bad thing to count it all together... The only movies that basically made way over their budget was iron man 1 and 2 and Thor.

Really, if you think about the movie (ignore anything that is opinion), there is no reason to believe that the movie would do anything more than it did. Fits right into the X-men level of business.

Star Power
Director Power
Uniqueness in the market place
Expectation
Marketing tie-ins
Target audience
Competition

TAS lost in each of these categories before it even hit the screen.

The Amazing Spider-Man is #3 in current domestic box office for 2012, a spot that will probably soon be overtaken by TDKR, but still, it's only below The Avengers and The Hunger Games.
