So where are we standing money wise so far?
400M...need 700M to break even...going into a rough couple of weeks. Ice Age opening this weekend and TDKR next weekend
So where are we standing money wise so far?
I think this movie will make a ton of money on Blu ray/DVD then there is syndication to channels like FX.
I think there will be way more interest for the sequel because it wont be reboot.
I think they were counting on the 4th of July boost but it really didn't do anything for the movie...I would have pushed this movie away from TDKR maybe move into GI Joe 2's vacant spot...give another uncontested weekend
I don't think it would have helped much as the general audience tend to go to movies in the first two weeks. A factor to remember is if TDKR is sold out everywhere then people may check out ASM.
if they moved the movie back it would have given them 2 weeks of uncontested BO....as it stands it has 10 days of uncontested BO...this friday is Ice Age...the last one did 889M and became the fourth highest grossing animated movie...this weekend is going to be critical for Spider-man
I don't know about other people but I have never gone to a theater to see a movie and if its sold out went and seen something else....I go find another theater where its not sold out. I did that for Avengers and if I didn't get my advance tickets for TDKR I would do the same for it.

You people are so spoiled.
A superhero movie doesn't cross 1 billion and you're like omg itz teh bomb.
Get real. Most studios would kill for a movie that makes around 800 m WW.
By the time they get around to dvd sales and tv rights Sony would've made 250 million. If the sequel is good Sony can expect much more since ASM2 will likely make more globally.
This site has a good explanation:
surely sony expected didnt expect huge numbers from this? i mean not only did they take this risk to reboot only a few years after SM3 but its also being released same month has TDKR
Hmm they were apparently making SM4 and TASM at the same time. What if after production on SM4 stopped, the budget on that movie just carried over?
I dunno, I just don't think that they spent the whole budget in TASM, maybe they're saving it for the next film?
I really can't see how they can lower the budget too much and still be true to the character. Spider-Man really relies on these over-the-top, larger than life, balls to wall brawls with colorful supervillains. There are things they can do like not film in New York, but it is always going to be a big CGI actionfest. That's what the franchise is.
Batman could get away with it by being more of a low key detective story and still be true to the character, but Spider-Man really can't. I think it will end up looking really cheap if they skimp on the budget.

I hope we do get a sequel because thats when the series really shines...SM2, X2
Its where they learn from their mistakes and do better. I hope they get the chance
