Which, if that is indeed the case, may give credence to the other rumor that Sony execs were uneasy about the film. Maybe now they're more comfortable with the finished cut.

If they weren't before, then I'm pretty sure the general consensus of the movie so far should comfort them more.

I just really hope that Webb continues on though. A lot of people are saying that the emotional depth to this movie is great and are praising his direction. I'm sure he'll continue doing better in the sequel. This guy should stay imo.

It seems like TASM is going to be the "Batman Begins" of the Spider-Man series. Its an origin story that focuses on the hero rather than the villain, but it opens many doors to potential sequels. Who knows what they will do for TASM2...

I know it's premature but after hearing all about this film, I'm already looking forward to the day Marvel gets the rights back :/

I don't know why but lots of things recently sound bad to me. Connors' family isn't present? Big disappointment for me. Problems with pacing and story? Big problem! Lizard being a kinda weak villain? Me sad.

I love the tone they seem to have and the actors are great, as well as the cinematography seems to be. But that doesn't matter if the villain feels weak and the story has lacking parts. I also read about some weird scenes where you kinda go "wtf?". Meh!

EDIT: It seems many reviewers like the film, but also state that there are some problems that takes it down a notch. I expect more from a Spidey film tbh.

I don't, if I like the movie when I see it, then I'll like it. Simple. It's just that many people seem to say the same thing about stuff that worries me.

I'm disappointed to hear about the Lizard too, but honestly, I don't see how Marvel Studios could've handled him better, since their villains have all been pretty weak and average (so far, at least).

EDIT: actually, not all of them. I really liked Rothman's Blonsky in TIH.

I am yet to be impressed with any of the marvel villian's potrayal on the big screen,thats one place where DC is always better

Doc Connors is a great character, but when he turns into the Lizard it's always one of two stories, either the mindless brute or someone trying to change the rest of the world into Lizards. He's got a great look (in the comics at least), but the character as a whole relies on Connors and his family. The actual villian works in the comics or a 22 minute cartoon with Spidey working really hard to cure him, but I'm not sure how well it'll play in a 2 hour movie.

That is true actually. It is a little bit of a shame that he doesn't have a family or that Spidey isn't trying to help him as much as stop him. Especially when the stopping a bad guy thing has been done in all the Spidey films!

I guess this way is more like the Ultimate Comics. A little less schmaltzy and straight to the action.

This is very true, which is why I was hoping they would take more notes from SHED on how to do the Lizard. He still wanted everyone to turn into reptiles, but the Connors/Lizard battle was still at the forefront and his family ended up paying the price for it all. They obviously don't have to go as dark as SHED went, but it made more sense to have something else going on rather than the Lizard infatuated with making the population turn into reptiles.

I never really saw a need to off him in the movie. Just like Scarlettess said, it's PG-13 and I don't think a Lizard monster killing a young child would have really made the screeners very pleased. But putting him in direct danger? Go for it. It only makes sense.

In SHED, the whole idea behind the Lizard even going after Connors' family was that a reptile will invade the nest of a competing male, in this case, the Lizard attacking Curt's family, or his "nest." After Lizard successfully killed Billy, Connors slowly faded away out of Lizard's subconscious, so in effect his instincts worked.

It was really written quite well and I was hoping this film would adapt some of those story elements. At the very least, Connors losing some sort of control near the end of the film. From what I've seen, it seems that Connors will still retain a lot of his own self as the Lizard and it's actually his own ambition that's causing him to lose control. Not saying that can't be done well, but the SHED method is proven and the classic battle between Curt and the Lizard has always been the major draw to the character for me. I think that without it, the character falls a bit flat.

I'm really holding out for the film adaptation though. I love his look and I'm hoping I can really buy him as a villain. I agree with what's been said before that like Batman Begins, this film is more focused on the hero than the villain, and I do feel like our hero has been given the proper treatment. But then there's always the age-old saying that the hero is only as good as the villain, so there's that too. I guess we'll see.
