The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man General Discussion & Speculation Thread - - - - - - P

I'm gonna be honest here and say that some of the posters on here, much like some of the crazy Nolan fans (who have made me like Batman progressively less over they years, though unfairly), are preparing me to not like the reboot with the constant digs at movies I actually liked, and the constant insults they throw when anyone says they appreciated certain elements of those films over what we have seen in the trailers. I don't want to feel that way because I legtimately want TASM to be awesome and to enjoy the movie like anyone else. Yes, the clips and such make me weary in some capacities, but I like keeping an open mind. This is a big reason why I tend to avoid this area, but now and again when I feel like attempting to get myself hyped for it, this area kills my happy. I just can't post in here and get excited, and that is a shame. I signed up on here before SM2 to talk about a character who I followed for years and admire (as much as you can a finctional character), so this irritates me all the more.

No offense, but how do you think people who are excited for ASM feel when most other places they go they have to put up with ASM being trashed, not just by Raimi fans but a lot of people in general? It was much worse several months ago. Same thing goes for me. I was never really a fan of the Raimi films, but I never took a dig at them just to boost this film up. I kept my mind open for 3 of Raimi's films and this one seems to be more appropriately fit for me but I'm actually starting to dislike the last 3 much more just because this one seems to always get bashed on, unreasonably so.

I never did care for any other fanboys bashing another CBM. That's Grif-like status.

But at the same time, how can a movie no one here has seen be praised? Everything is speculation with this movie at this point, so being cautious is fair. Being excited is also fair. And the Raimi hate started long before this movie started filming. You didn't see the great "Raimi Wars" in the thread I started dedicated to discussing what we loved about the Raimi films. People had to come in daily and be buzzkills. What is the point of that? And you would think it stopped since that thread has been moved to the SM1-3 forum, yet this discussion STILL happens on a daily basis. Why can't we ALL just move on and discuss our thoughts on THIS film alone in this forum MADE FOR THIS FILM? Once again, positive and negative discussion I am all for, but in the appropriate channels and with maturity. Not the immature garbage I have been witnissing in here (on BOTH sides).

I don't know why. I'm fairly new to online comic book communities, so a lot of the behavior around these parts baffle me.

I remember that. And I remember the Twilight hair discussion. But isn't the latter STILL being brought up even to this day?

I honestly don't hear/see the Edward Cullen comparison anymore. Which is good to know.

Thats because it was so utterly pathetic to even use that as an "argument"

"His hair teh poofy lieik Twilight ganan fail" Only trolls used it, stupid.

So, do you think we'll see Mary Jane in the future? I'm hoping with solid writing they can make more than three movies in this continuity. Spider-man has such a rich rogues' gallery that three movies could hardly do the comic's continuity justice.

He did back before the first teaser dropped...and he lied to us. A lot.

He gave us this completely false description of the teaser and a bunch of stuff about the Lizard that we have yet to even hear about.

Damn, somehow that makes his positive reaction much less credible though.

They should get off the one big villain per movie thing.

Have Spidey battle some minor villains at the beginning, or in a montage. Have them fit in with the main plot or just be random encounters. Nolan actually did a good job of weaving multiple villains into the narrative.

Not necessarily...just because he's misinformed us due to also being misinformed doesn't make his standards lower regarding films.

I mean he revealed a lot of scoops on Green Lantern and still gave it a "meh" review

It's good to see that ASM is getting positive feedback which has me excited that it may end up actually being a good movie. I'll reserve judgement until I actually see it for myself.

They were incredibly glowing actually.

I remember /film's "Early Buzz: First screening reactions" article they had on it. I can't link it as some of the reviews have profanity but they were all incredibly positive.

I wish we had seen that cut of the movie, I hear it was in the vein of the Daredevil DC (a completely different movie).

Still liked what we got....I do think it's a fun movie, but :o

Most of the Raimi mentions I've seen are by overly defensive fans of those movies. I've seen a few examples of outright mudslinging but comparing ASM to Spidey 2 or whatever *is fair* whether you personally like it or not.

These dudes act like ASM's very existence is a personal affront to them and that's friggin ridiculous.

I personally love the Raimi films and am taking the new relaunch just like when they do in the comics. New team, new artist. Everything is different but it's still Spider-Man. I just hope it is better then the older films because you can always improve, and I want an excellent film.

From what I've seen so far... Peter is Peter. The suit looks just as good if not better then the first three films. Sure I would have preferred they just made it the fourth film and continued on but meh, I'll get over it and probably like the new origin.

The one thing I am worried about is that all the quips in the film are in the trailer and they are just making us think he'll be like that the whole film. That is about the only thing that can disappoint me now.

I can't stand when people choose loyalty to a director over the superheroes themselves.

What matters the most is what works for the character but some people attack any other directors vision no matter what works best for the character.

It's very frustrating. These clowns obviously think these superheroes were nothing before their director revealed the superheroes true appeal. What a joke.

Why do people act like the Raimi films are anywhere near consistent in quality and belovedness? Spider-man was decent, but not great. Spider-man 2 was excellent and is probably still the best Marvel film, followed very closely by Iron Man (I was underwhelmed by The Avengers). And Spider-man 3 was trash.

It's obvious the movie doesnt suck, so that's great news, looking forward to see it! 10 more days for me.

This was posted to Tumblr from one of the writers for The Daily Blam:

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN WAS ON THE SAME LEVEL AT THE AVENGERS
Just saw a press screening and it was the most emotionally impacting super hero movie of all time. The narrative goes above and beyond anything the previous trilogy gave us. It is not what you expect and everything you never knew you needed from a spider-man film. Andrew Garfield IS Spider-Man.

Now am I insane?

I told you. I told.

Calm down, but yeah I want to say too "I told you so", but it's a bit petty and vain.

Very good for now anyway.

They say your first love is always the deepest.

For many of this generation, the first CBM they feel in love with was Spider-man (2002).

That's the only possible explanation for the rabid Raimi loyalty I can come up with.

does that review contain spoilers? I mean, if not I would like to read it

I've defended ASM since it was the cast was announced. That's two entire years of heated debates with Raimi fans and random naysayers. This doesn't include the endless debates regarding the quality of the Raimi movies.

I've been waiting for a Spider-man movie that I could enjoy since I was a small child.

So yeah, once it's official that ASM is fantastic, the haters can expect to see my victory dance. :woot:

Movie theatres in New Zealand are already selling tickets for the midnight screening.

I just got my ticket and apparently they're giving away free posters :awesome:
