I think we need some mod management for the spoiler above... :wow: :wow: :wow:

:yay:

Totally. Haven't read the issue yet and totally got spoiled! I won't be able to live with myself! :wow::oldrazz:

No, seriously...haven't read the issue yet but I'm anxiously awaiting my DCBS box to come today so I can dive in. From the rumors I've heard from friends and just from quickly going through the boards here looks like this issue may change my mind on dropping the title.

omgosh, totally forgot about that...sorry! :(

I was truly indifferent to the idea of Ben coming back. But [SPOILERS ahead suggesting how the Scarlet Spider comes back] [blackout]with Kaine being the Scarlet Spider, I'm actually excited.[/blackout]

How could it not go any other way? All these poor folks that think there's a chance it's still Ben are going to be screaming their heads off soon after everybody warned you.

Well, after reading ASM # 671 I'm pretty much the happiest Spider-Man fan in the entire universe. If the book saw less of Carlie Cooper it would be PERFECT but that's for another time. Right now I'm freakin' pumped about this Scarlet Spider annoucement and we now know who it's going to be. This is pretty much as CLOSE as we're going to get and I love that it has been done. TMOB is right it's time for the Ben Reilly fans to put their money where their mouths are. I'm definitely with it!

Except the Ben Reilly fans may do the extreme opposite by pissing and moaning if it turns out Scarlet Spider isn't Ben.

It would be nice if [BLACKOUT]Kane took on the name Ben Riley in his honor [/BLACKOUT]

As a Ben Reilly fan, I assume you really mean it's time for the [blackout]Kaine[/blackout] fans to put their money where their mouths are.

[blackout]I get that Ben fans may not like it, but at theen of the day, you had Ben Reilly, a clone of Peter Parker take on the mantle of the Scarlet Spider... 15 years later, we're going to get an on-going book about a clone of Peter Parker taking on the mantle of the Scarlet Spider... I wouldn't be surprised if he does dye his hair blonde and call himself Ben... his disposition is different after the events of Grim Hunt... so I think it could be good... Kaine is as close a "Ben Reilly" replacement as we're going to get... so I would think that Ben fans will (or should) jump all over this...[/blackout]

What a time for Spidey-spinoffs. First we get a Venom [BLACKOUT]where the alien is bonded to a different human host[/BLACKOUT]that is very successful, and now a Scarlet Spider [BLACKOUT]where somebody else takes up the alias[/BLACKOUT]. I didn't expect to be wowed by the current Venom, and I'm very happy, while with Ben, I was always indifferent to Ben's revival, [BLACKOUT]but Kaine is a different story[/BLACKOUT].

What they really should have done is [BLACKOUT]have the character of Miles Morales be the next Scarlet Spider in 616 instead of giving us this character in Ultimate. It would have had a much bigger impact to have a "blacktino" Spider-Man in 616, ya know, the MAINSTREAM reality where stuff matters, instead of giving us Miles in a poor-man's secondary "no one cares about" universe. You can pretty much take any risky or exciting chances there, but to pull that off in the big 616 would have been ballsy. Oh, well, the Scarlet Spider-Miles Morales we could have gotten. I can dream. :csad:[/BLACKOUT]

Ridiculous. That's like saying all the Wally fans should shut up and be happy with Barry. They're different characters who happen to share a superhero identity. If you're interested in one character, it doesn't stand to reason in any way that you'd automatically be interested in another just because he's adopted the former's identity.

A Spidey character is joining the Secret Avengers.

But are they really "that" much different? Wally and Barry are two unique indifviduals... whereas Ben & Kaine share the same DNA, share the samememories of Peter Parker... I'm not suggesting that Ben fans shouldn't be pissed at the fact that someone else is taking over his identity, but at least it's someone who is genetically the same... and since Grim Hunt, Kaine appears to no longer be the same depressing angry man he used to be.If I were a Ben fan, I'd be more mad if it were Mary Jane, or some other person taking over the mante of the Scarlet Spider.

You know why I never cared for Ben Reilly, personally? He was just Peter Parker. He had his morals, his believes, his ideology. [blackout]But Kaine would be an angrier, more violent, less jokey character. I doubt even after Grim Hunt that he's become that much gentler. He may have curbed or completely snuffed out killing people, but I would guess he's still a hardened character. The teaser showing him taking on that thug wearing a Daredevil mask, Scarlet Spider is holding him up by his head in the most painful manner. That suggests a surly Scarlet Spider. I would rather see what a grimdark Peter would be like than a blond cookie-cutter Peter. Why am I still using blackout tags when it should be no secret that KAINE and not BEN or anyone else is this new Scarlet Spider?[/blackout]

All I'm saying, if we are getting back Scarlet Spider, and he is the single Spider-Man Marvel wanted since the original 90's Clone Saga, then how about Pete... :cwink: :woot:

Remember? 1987? There was this Amazing Spider-Man Annual... :cwink: :woot:

I'm about as big a Ben Reilly fan as you're going to get and I love the direction of this Scarlet Spider announcement. I was going to drop the book completely and only read Venom but then the recent events in ASM # 671 and this announcement of the Scarlet Spider series kept me on board with the book.

Plus...Ryan Stegman on artwork? It's a no brainer for me his artwork is freakin' great!

Don't even. They'll have him get married to Carlie ''Sinfully Boring" Cooper.

Even if it isn't Ben, I'm all over this.
