Hi.
Just wanted to give a quick heads up:
Next Weds., Oct.26th is a BIG day on Spider-Island.
It'll have the Spider-Island wrap ups for:
CLOAK & DAGGER
DEADLY HANDS OF KUNG-FU
and SPIDER-GIRL
It'll also feature a key Spider-Island issue for VENOM...
...and the climactic battle of Spider-Island in ASM #672!
If you're reading multiple Spider-Island titles, quick word of advice, since ASM #672 is the big finale, you should probably read that issue last.
ESPECIALLY if you're reading VENOM.
Please read VENOM #8 before ASM #672.
In fact, when previews for next week's ASM #672 come out, you should probably avoid reading it, as it MIGHT spoil some of the events of VENOM #8.
Just giving you a heads up.
Thanks,
Dan
I figured all this, but thanks for the head's up. I actually do happen to be buying all those. Probably liking DEADLY HANDS the least, but it's readable. Also, SPIDER-ISLAND > FEAR ITSELF, easily.
I may as well comment on the SCARLET SPIDER relaunch thing. Chris Yost and Ryan Stegman is a solid creative team. Yost's actually a better writer without Craig Kyle's influence and Stegman's a reliable artist. After about 15 years, Marvel wanted to maintain the trademark, which is half the reason this is back. Heaven help if some small ComixTribe comic managed to claim SCARLET SPIDER (TM) from them, same as the CHAMPIONS RPG gained that license, Marvel would totally go bankrupt immediately again (sarcasm). While VENOM has been the most successful ASM spin off in years, so far, I do think it is a little pre-mature to launch another one before VENOM has even lasted a full year. However, pre-maturely spitting out more comics than people asked for is what Marvel does these days, and in fairness, it will be off a good selling crossover and ASM has sold at a stable rate for years, especially after BIG TIME.
It is quite probable that the new Scarlet Spider is
. But the issue is it doesn't matter who he is, because the problem is the same. All of the changes that have happened to Peter Parker since ONE MORE DAY ended in late 2007 have made the need to have a secondary Spidey-Lite who isn't married and is a superhero 24/7 irrelevant. Peter Parker is now a bachelor again. His superhero life has expanded since he is on 3 superhero teams now. He has managed to merge it with a civilian career via his Horizon Labs gig. While that first point still brings harsh debate/criticism, I have no complaints with the Horizon bit at all. I like that ASM plays with all of these elements to Spidey that other writers have built up over time. However, Scarlet Spider had a purpose in the 90's when Marvel toyed with the idea of having Parker and MJ retire in the sunset and start over with the new blond guy. Now, there is NO NEED for that and instead, all Scarlet Spider can offer is a secondary Spider-Guy in a new setting as part of a family of titles. Like SUPERBOY and SUPERGIRL for SUPERMAN, or the various Bat-spare titles like ROBIN, RED ROBIN, NIGHTWING, BATGIRL, BATWOMAN, etc. And while those bog down those franchises more than they boost them, I don't see it working for Spidey, especially as AVENGING SPIDER-MAN is coming, too.
But, we'll have to wait and see.
