Don't even. They'll have him get married to Carlie ''Sinfully Boring" Cooper.

I know Marvel would be apprehensive about marriage again. At this point I just want Pete & MJ back together.

But are they really "that" much different? Wally and Barry are two unique indifviduals... whereas Ben & Kaine share the same DNA, share the samememories of Peter Parker... I'm not suggesting that Ben fans shouldn't be pissed at the fact that someone else is taking over his identity, but at least it's someone who is genetically the same... and since Grim Hunt, Kaine appears to no longer be the same depressing angry man he used to be.If I were a Ben fan, I'd be more mad if it were Mary Jane, or some other person taking over the mante of the Scarlet Spider.
Well, that's the point, isn't it? If they're so gosh-darned similar, just go ahead and bring Ben back and use him. I'd prefer Mary Jane as the Scarlet Spider or even Kaine as Kaine as the Scarlet Spider because at least you're getting something interesting and different. I don't understand the logic of taking another character, tearing apart everything that makes them them, and rebuilding them as a copy of another character to take over the latter character's superhero identity. Just... why?

Well, we don't know who will be under the hoodie so far... but if it turns out to be Kaine, then it might be "Kaine" as the Scarlet Spider... as shown by the 0.1 pic... which shows a "seemingly" more aggressive Scarlet Spider

Hi.

Just wanted to give a quick heads up:
Next Weds., Oct.26th is a BIG day on Spider-Island.

It'll have the Spider-Island wrap ups for:
CLOAK & DAGGER
DEADLY HANDS OF KUNG-FU
and SPIDER-GIRL

It'll also feature a key Spider-Island issue for VENOM...

...and the climactic battle of Spider-Island in ASM #672!

If you're reading multiple Spider-Island titles, quick word of advice, since ASM #672 is the big finale, you should probably read that issue last.

ESPECIALLY if you're reading VENOM.
Please read VENOM #8 before ASM #672.
In fact, when previews for next week's ASM #672 come out, you should probably avoid reading it, as it MIGHT spoil some of the events of VENOM #8.

Just giving you a heads up.
Thanks,
Dan

God damn.... this is going to be a looooooooooooooooooong 7 days... :o

Well I'll definitely be reading venom, think I'll get all I need from that.

Is there a better spin off book than venom out there on either company? Cause I really can't come up with one easily.

I really hate the poor planning Marvel has on release dates as of late. Nothing against you, Dan, as you probably don't have much control over it, but some of those books you listed could have easily been bumped up to this week to cover the hole and things would have worked out better.

I've been really enjoying Deadly hands... There's something that appeals to me about a Martial Artist who just skilled, no magic powers, and he's actually oriental (not that this is required, but it's nice to see the top practitioner of a martial art actually from the culture that spawned it. If all the best Martial artist are white guys it has unfortunate implications.)
Venom is on my pull list so that's not a problem

I'm pretty keen on the Spider-Man developing his own style of Kung-fu concept, the everyone on Manhattan getting spider-powers hasn't done that much for me.
Peter getting his Spidersense back rocked

Here's some interesting info about the solicits for the upcoming Spider-Man/Daredevil crossover coming this January:

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #677
MARK WAID (W) • EMMA RIOS (A)
COVER BY HUMBERTO RAMOS
VARIANT COVER BY LEE BERMEJO
• Spider-Man and Daredevil team up – Part One!
• When Black Cat is arrested, Matt Murdock is the only lawyer who will touch
her (her case… we mean).
• The next great love triangle of the Marvel Universe begins!

DAREDEVIL #8
MARK WAID (W) • KANO (A)
COVER BY PAOLO RIVERA
VARIANT COVER BY LEE BERMEJO
• Spider-Man and Daredevil team up – Part two!
• Picking up where ASM #677 left off, the next great love triangle of the Marvel Universe continues!

Well, considering how the "next great love triangle of the Marvel Universe" is taking place in the crossover and the Black Cat is involved, I'm guessing this may be hinting at the following: that Peter and Carlie break-up at the end of "Spider-Island," and that, by time this story begins, Peter attempts to get back together with Felicia as a means of getting over his break-up. But, in true Parker Luck fashion, Felicia hooks up with Matt and becomes his new love interest instead.

Although I'm all for Pete & Carlie breaking up, I'd obviously prefer MJ. But Cat has always been fun.

However...

Are you sure Pete's involved in the triangle? Didn't I read somewhere that Daredevil is getting involved with Pete's ex-roommate? Michelle was it, she of the drunken hook-up that we shall not talk of?

It could still be a love triangle even if Pete's still with Carlie and it involves an ex of his. Back in the day they did this stuff all the time with Pete/MJ/Harry and Pete/Betty/Ned.

Michele's name was mentioned in Daredevil #1, true. However, she has yet to make an actual appearance in the series, I believe. You might be thinking about this statement Waid made awhile back:

Marvel.com: Who would you prefer to write as Daredevil’s love interest: Karen Page, Elektra, somebody else or somebody new?
Mark Waid: Someone new. Karen's still dead, Elektra I love but don't have a feel for, but there are several new women coming up soon in Matt's life who are potential romantic interests, including someone quite surprising borrowed from the Spider-Man cast. Ponder that and start placing your bets.

So, in light of this and the upcoming crossover, I'd say the odds of Black Cat being a new love interest for Daredevil just went up.

It could still be a love triangle even if Pete's still with Carlie and it involves an ex of his. Back in the day they did this stuff all the time with Pete/MJ/Harry and Pete/Betty/Ned.

Sure. But then if Peter is still with Carlie and he's involved in a triangle with Black Cat and Daredevil, then it wouldn't be a love triangle, would it? :cwink:

I figured all this, but thanks for the head's up. I actually do happen to be buying all those. Probably liking DEADLY HANDS the least, but it's readable. Also, SPIDER-ISLAND > FEAR ITSELF, easily.

I may as well comment on the SCARLET SPIDER relaunch thing. Chris Yost and Ryan Stegman is a solid creative team. Yost's actually a better writer without Craig Kyle's influence and Stegman's a reliable artist. After about 15 years, Marvel wanted to maintain the trademark, which is half the reason this is back. Heaven help if some small ComixTribe comic managed to claim SCARLET SPIDER (TM) from them, same as the CHAMPIONS RPG gained that license, Marvel would totally go bankrupt immediately again (sarcasm). While VENOM has been the most successful ASM spin off in years, so far, I do think it is a little pre-mature to launch another one before VENOM has even lasted a full year. However, pre-maturely spitting out more comics than people asked for is what Marvel does these days, and in fairness, it will be off a good selling crossover and ASM has sold at a stable rate for years, especially after BIG TIME.

It is quite probable that the new Scarlet Spider is
Kaine
. But the issue is it doesn't matter who he is, because the problem is the same. All of the changes that have happened to Peter Parker since ONE MORE DAY ended in late 2007 have made the need to have a secondary Spidey-Lite who isn't married and is a superhero 24/7 irrelevant. Peter Parker is now a bachelor again. His superhero life has expanded since he is on 3 superhero teams now. He has managed to merge it with a civilian career via his Horizon Labs gig. While that first point still brings harsh debate/criticism, I have no complaints with the Horizon bit at all. I like that ASM plays with all of these elements to Spidey that other writers have built up over time. However, Scarlet Spider had a purpose in the 90's when Marvel toyed with the idea of having Parker and MJ retire in the sunset and start over with the new blond guy. Now, there is NO NEED for that and instead, all Scarlet Spider can offer is a secondary Spider-Guy in a new setting as part of a family of titles. Like SUPERBOY and SUPERGIRL for SUPERMAN, or the various Bat-spare titles like ROBIN, RED ROBIN, NIGHTWING, BATGIRL, BATWOMAN, etc. And while those bog down those franchises more than they boost them, I don't see it working for Spidey, especially as AVENGING SPIDER-MAN is coming, too.

But, we'll have to wait and see.

Marvel was already holding the Scarlet Spider name down with the MVP clone...I thought that was why they killed off the other 2 so there was just one and they could drop the 's'. They even had him running around with a New Warriors like team...

I think they need to have an actual comic title with a name to maintain certain trademarks.

You do bring up a good point; that version of Scarlet Spider is still around; he even just showed up in this week's FEAR ITSELF: YOUTH IN REVOLT #6 and had two (brief) lines. About all he did in that series in stand in some background shots with the rest of the current New Warriors (Rage, Debrii, Ultra-Girl, Slapstick), help rescue some people, and get his ass kicked by Crossbones. Given that Dan Slott created him, and co-wrote him with Christos Gage, it is interesting not much has been done with him since. He's a literal blank slate.

Maybe he'll be the sidekick to the new Scarlet Spider. They can call themselves the Clone Rangers. :p

That's freakin' awesome that Emma Rios is going to be doing the artwork in ASM # 677. I really loved her work back during BND and also in that recent Osborn miniseries.

Rios is also doing the artwork for SPIDER-ISLAND: CLOAK & DAGGER, which has been terrific.

Hmmmm... the great love triangle of the MU. Seems like it'll go something like this....

Peter: "don't look at my face, now get out."
Matt: "no I'm not daredevil, now get out"

I smell romance.

I'm not too crazy about Rios. Her style is a bit different but is ok for a fill in I suppose. I would rather see Martin and Rivera do the entire crossover personally.

Excellent ending... a little rushed... but all parties should be pleased...

:yay:

Glad to hear. I get to read it sometime this Friday.

I'm confused by the ending. Is this a hint of Spider-Man and Mary Jane getting back together or am I reading too much into it?
