I was wondering that too, but I loved the Kaine and Pete banter so awesome. :woot:

Loved the conclusion as well.

Digging what they've done with Kaine thus far.

Even if Peter and MJ don't get back together right away, this issue certainly gives the impression that things are definitely moving in that direction, particularly with the last panel. (Not to mention I have the feeling Peter and Carlie may break-up next issue). Also, I do think it would be interesting if
MJ's powers weren't the result of the "spider-flu," but--as utterly ridiculous as it is--her having a slower version of the virus due to having built up a "having frequent sex with Peter immunity" works, I guess.

Also, I think this issue--as well as all of "Spider-Island"--just goes to show that Madame Web, even if it is Julia Carpenter, is a lousy psychic who, as Kaine rightly put it, prophecies just suck. None of this would have gotten as bad as it did and she been more forthright and actually did something to get involved instead of stand around watching on the sidelines. Basically, she got brought down a peg, and deservedly so.

And I guess this pretty much cements Kaine as the new Scarlet Spider, although it's nice to see him
use Peter's Stealth suit as it seems appropriate for him. Also, anyone notice Kaine has the Wolverine-esque bone-stingers from "The Other: Evolve or Die?" So I guess that explains how he's still alive then since he, most likely, went through the same molting process Peter did after he "died" in Grim Hunt--which was probably hinted at in a dialog exchange between him and Peter. Even so, I never though I'd see those awful bone-stingers again.

Anyway, even though Ramos' art did look cluttered and the story was a bit chaotic as the other parts, it was nice seeing all the various pieces come together, particularly
the use of the octo-bots (which in hindsight, were foreshadowed back in issue #668).
Good finish.

EDIT: Still a bit WTF with
the Queen turning into a giant spider monster, though. Are we sure this comic wasn't produced by Jon Peters? After all, it is following his third act rule as according to Kevin Smith.:oldrazz:

Well, as we all know the V/AV party is going to want to know anyway, what happens to Anti-Venom/Eddie?
I'm waiting to find that out really; I was hoping we'd see more reaction from Brock in this. Reed will probably have a moment with Brock. Brock says there's not much he can do now. Flash comes to talk to him, convinces him to come to Rebith 2.0 as a "consultant" or something without fully admitting he wants Brock around for help.

I hope they don't be absolute dingleberries and throw him in some slammer, but actually give Brock some sort of sizable thank you. Kind of like the recognition that Deadpool got from the Avengers at the end of Cable and Deadpool #50....sigh. That was beautiful........ ..... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY :argh:

I'm confused by the ending. Is this a hint of Spider-Man and Mary Jane getting back together or am I reading too much into it?

I think it's Slott trying to tell us never say never. I see it as a them saying that they will be together again.....one day.....just not anytime soon. MJ saying out loud that she loves Pete is not an earth shattering development. We all know she loves him and he loves her back, they have history after all.

Yes I did... I gave it a second look, just to make sure... but I did notice them.

Inasmuch as nobody really liked those "Other" powers, I'm glad to see themin some form because if explained properly, it means that all that stuff still happened wether we like it or not, and being the big continuity guy that I am.. this pleases me.

Except of course for the things that they didn't like happening. Those still are out.

Preview for next issue is out and it's hilarious. I don't know who this Gravity kid is, but he's got a couple hilarious moments. "We're working with damage control, and we've brought plenty of pants." and when he sees a very comfortable Herc, he has a hilarious reaction.

You know, there was something I meant to ask eons ago.

That being said, there was lots of great developments here. Kudos to Slott for having Number 6 be Morbius, that was a very nice surprise and makes a ton of sense in hindsight.

Not that I'm against [BLACKOUT]Morbius[/BLACKOUT] being involved, but why exactly did this make so much sense?

I was kinda hoping for more about #6. Maybe something in the epilogue? Something in the new book he's getting? I'm not sure. I should re-read to see if I'm missing anything.

Got a kick out of that bit as well.

I suppose Madame Web 2 is
helping set up Kaine as Scarlet Spider to a small degree in this issue. Based on the hint about his future on the last page.

Is Morbius getting a new book? Or will the Legion of Monsters become an on-going? I hope it's the latter.... I ned to read some Jack Russell.

Poor Kaine, he's had to live his life with hand me down genes

Okay, here's why I think it does:

What did we know about "Number 6" prior to the reveal and what do we know about Morbius? Well, we know that what Peter's boss, Max Modell, calls the "Lucky 7," in which Peter is a part of, are considered the top and brightest scientists working at the company. Morbius, prior to his transformation into a "living vampire" was a Nobel Prize winning biochemist. Also, we know that Horizon Labs apparently has some cutting-edge technology and research, and considering how Morbius is trying to cure his vampirism, what better place to work than at a scientific research center? Also, we were told that "Number 6" requested to work in complete anonymity and privacy from the other employees, which suggested he had some mysterious past and/or had something to hide. Obviously, Morbius certainly does. Finally, we were told that "Number 6" is an expert on DNA. Morbius specialty is hematology, and blood is a prime source for DNA analysis. Also, Reed Richards was willing to work with "Number 6" but made a big point to Peter about keeping his secret, almost as if he knew Peter might object if he knew the truth. Morbius is one of Spidey's enemies, although they have an uneasy truce of sorts, but he's also one who elicits enough sympathy that someone like Reed would work with him as opposed to other villains of Spidey's who are also scientists like the Lizard, Doc Ock, etc.

Also, think what this potentially sets up: you've got Peter's boss harboring one of Spidey's old enemies who, while tragic and sympathetic, is also still a murderer. Such a thing creates a moral dilemma for Spidey, particularly because if word got out about this, Horizon could be in serious trouble as a result and jeopardize all the great work the company does. So does Peter accept Moribus working at Horizon and turn a blind eye? Does he quit because of it? It creates drama.

So that's why, IMO, it makes a lot of sense.

Let me just add my love for this story! Everything has come together so insanely well! This story used the idea of the Spiders much much better than Grim Hunt. And this story referenced that too! This really pulled all threads going on since Big Time as well as recent continuity (octobots), semi-recent continuity (Queen), and long ranged continuity (Clone Saga).

I mean Spidey, using octobots (octopus=8 legs, spider=8 legs), to distribute Anti-Venom to the victims? Perfect!

Very interested in seeing where they go with Kaine/Scarlet Spider. I mean are you going to have another guy with Pete's face running around or will he try to pass himself as Ben? Enjoyed the banter between the two, but agree with some that it seems a bit too quick and too soon, considering how Kaine was for all those years.

Of course I loved loved loved the MJ stuff! I loved her speech in what made him special was not being Spider-Man, but being Peter Parker. I really hope this leads to bigger developments!

And as someone who was introduced to Spidey thru the 60's cartoon, gotta love "Wallopun' Web Snappers!" :woot:

And agree, this may be the best Spider-Man story in 20 years!
Mr. Slott, my hat is off to you! :yay:

I still want to hear William Shatner do the 60's Spider-Man theme son.

I just saw that Spidey is getting a new ongoing next month called Avenging Spiderman. Whats that about? Its going to be Spiderman and the Avengers? What will that do to Amazing? Will it still ship 3 times a month?

Avenging Spider-Man will not affect Amazing Spider-Man at all. The book is simply about Spider-Man teaming up with various Avengers such as the first arc having him team up with the Red Hulk.

Also, Amazing Spider-Man doesn't ship 3 times a month anymore. Ever since Dan Slott took over as the only writer of Amazing Spider-Man with Big Time, the shipping schedule went from three times a month to bi-monthly.

I'm bummed I can't check out Avenging Spider-Man. Looks like it could be fun. I'd rather pick up Scarlet Spider though.

ASM 673 was...Amazing. A lot of closure, yet new paths are opened. We got some great stuff with Jameson, Kaine, MJ, and more.

This really feels like the start of a whole new status quo changer. So soon? We just got Big Time.

[BLACKOUT]The Jackal's alive. The real Jackal. The one Queen killed was the clone. I hate clones. They're like Doombots. They're just conveniently placed in these situations for the "real" one to sneak away unharmed. Repeatedly. Anyway, The Jackal is harvesting the Queen's remains for something big.

Kaine and Peter part ways. He's keeping the Stealth Suit.

Spider-Man finally lets Madame Web have it. Its bad enough she could have prevented a lot of this from happening and didn't, but then she pops up to Spidey to cryptically warn him of incoming loss and disaster? Yeah, he's had it with her.

Eddie Brock is given credit for saving the borough. Reminds me so much of Mr. Satan. Except here, Eddie actually did save everyone. Too bad there wasn't any screen time showing him handling not being Anti-Venom. He can't be over that like its nothing.

Mary-Jane is cured. No Spider-Woman ver.7.

Carlie breaks up with Peter...she knows he's Spider-Man.

And the Secret ID Protection spell has been weakened. Anyone is able to figure out Peter is Spidey without having to actually see him unmask. Peter figured the rules of magic were extremely black & white, so he never bothered to consider that the spell wouldn't be affected by him swinging around the city in his civilian clothes and giving a big speech about using spider-powers to do what's right.[/BLACKOUT]
