I think that has more to do with the stories and number of titles than anything. In the 90's, there were what? 4 Spiderman titles? And those titles are competing, trying to make their mark by writing the next "great" story, which for some reason entails some costume variation.
I am really loving this Spider-Island! I think Dan has done a great job picking up various "threads" (sorry for the pun) of previous continuity. I think this is a much better job of connecting the "spider" charactersthan Grim Hunt. There's Venom & Anti-Venom, to boot! It even weaves the Spider Slayers and the Jackal and his clones into the story naturally as well as JJJ. Great job with the id of scientist #6, especially since he did show up again recently in the comics. Heck, I even love the Queen & the spiders angle, and I didn't care for the original story, since they had done the whole Man-Spider thing to Pete before this a couple of times.
And a agree with everyone about the apparent direction for Kaine. If this is true, and we now have a new Spider-Man (in the guise of the Scarlet Spider or whatever), this is another single Spider-Man. (the original reason for the Clone Saga of the 90's) So now, if Marvel has this single Spider-Man, is it possible for our Pete to be...![]()

Dug just about everything, except...
...the apparent death of the Jackal. Hopefully, that was a clone he set-up just in case. Hate to finally have him back, only to kill him off right away.
That was only revealed in Venom? Freaky.I liked Spider-Island at first but then it turns out that some tie-ins were essential reading (like Steve Rogers being the Spider-King in Venom). Now I'm just ****ing confused.
It was revealed first in Venom, then mentioned again in this month's ASM.
Great stuff up ahead!
