From 69 to 71 ITS NOW 75!!!

Travers from Rolling stone gave a 88 (3.5/4)

Rolling Stone
Peter Travers 88

"The Avengers has it all. And then some. Six superheroes for the price of one ticket... It's also the blockbuster I saw in my head when I imagined a movie that brought together the idols of the Marvel world in one, shiny, stupendously exciting package. It's "Transformers" with a brain, a heart and working sense of humor. Suck on that, Michael Bay."

So basically its what Transformers 3 (portals, alien invasion) should have been.

Great review, and I'm not surprised. I said before that I expected a fair and positive review from Travers. He has his pets & peeves, but he knows and admires fine filmmaking. It's critics like Ebert, A.O. Scott (all the NY Times critics, actually), Hornaday of the Washington Post and others who have sticks lodged firmly up their posteriors who are likely to slate the film.

Here's the other critic I was waiting for...even though I pretty much knew how this one was going to turn out. Sorry if it's been posted already.

This: "But seriously, The Avengers is a remarkable example of the blockbuster, and the ultimate example of what a superhero movie should be. Everyone tackling a superhero film must look at The Avengers and take notes, because Joss Whedon has given you the exact right formula"

This is the first time were I've thought that Rises has absolutely no shot at being number one domestically this year.

It's starting to feel like it more and more as the days get closer to this film.

Seeing it at midnight on Thursday and I have a special surprise for some posters here on Saturday....the ones who were convinced of my trollness....

Dude, that was a hell of a positive review. Yeah, he can be a prick but he's a damn good writer.

Hmmm..... your own review?

Also I honestly don't know about TDKR. I wanted to see Avengers more personally, but I loved TDK and I really want to see TDKR and have loved pretty much most things I heard about it.

On the one hand Avengers reception and buzz is phenomenal, but on the other hand TDKR is also one of the most hyped/anticipated movies of the year (just like Avengers) and it's got a big act to follow, not just the Avengers but TDK itself. Plus both the Avengers and TDKR seem to have everything going for it (the team involved, the good previews etc).

Avengers is doing incredibly well right now, but TDKR is an unknown quantity (relatively). It's anyone's guess at the moment.

If we look at films released this year, and not just earnings during this calendar year, I still think The Hobbit is the favorite.

I don't really care that much which film grosses the highest though, as long as all the three big CBM:s of the year are as good as we hope (Avengers was for me) and do well enough for the studios to continue to produce quality with high budgets and as much creative freedom as possible.

You can never predict these things, and I don't have a real read on TDKR, but I just think it will be awfully hard for them to top TDK, nevermind Avengers.

I think the buildup to Avengers feels more like TDK did. There's certainly more anticipation for this than any other MU film to date.

I think TDK was more anticipated than any Superhero film before it. And it certainly showed at the box office

I think it will be harder for TDKR to follow in the footstep of TDK than even TA, because it'd be like Spider-Man 2 following SM1 or ROTJ following ESB, and like SM2 I think TDKR might be an even better film than its predecessor but it will gross less, because the previous film was just a phenomenon that the follow-up will inevitably become a letdown no matter what.

I for one have already enjoyed reading Devin Faraci's review so his glowing endorsement of The Avengers is a very welcoming news. I know that he had said via Twitter than he likes TA, but to read how enthusiastic he is upon watching the movie is a real treat. Unfortunately, Mr. Beaks will probably give a less-than-enthusiastic review, though, if the news about what he thinks of TA is true.

A meh or negative review from ao Scott is a near certainty.

Scott has already said in his reviews of other Marvel films that he hates the shared universe concept, the build-up through five movies and Marvel's heroes in particular. He has probably already written the basic template of disdainful snark and only needs to add a few details from the film to the piece. The plot, characterization and overall quality if the film hardly matter when a reviewer has prejudged it.

Scott DID give CA:TFA a positive review as I recall.

He did, although he had a great deal of disdain for the end scene. His review was about on par of Scott Mendelson's review of CA:TFA.

It's so silly that the two fanbases clash (Marvel/DC, Nolan vs whatever Marvel Studios does) like they do. I flipping adore Whedon AND Nolan and I'm hoping that both of their films are tremendous success stories this summer. Gritty, noirish, so-called realism or fantastical over the top superhero craziness... there's room for both.

Agreed

There's definitley a healthy buzz going on for the Avengers. It's doing something that no comic book movie, or any movie ever really, has done before.

I wouldn't say it has the same intensity of anticipation TDK had, but that's because TDK was kind of 'perfect storm' of fortunate and unfortunate events. Honestly, I don't know if any movie will read the kind of build up TDK had.

Not a review...although that will be part if it. Something more personal and glorious.

No way, especially with the death of the main villain. And with all the news outlets talking about how he locked himself in his room for days to get into the joker's mind. It was all such a crazy media storm. HUGE exposure
