The Avengers The Avengers Critics Reviews Thread - Part 2

I think it will be harder for TDKR to follow in the footstep of TDK than even TA, because it'd be like Spider-Man 2 following SM1 or ROTJ following ESB, and like SM2 I think TDKR might be an even better film than its predecessor but it will gross less, because the previous film was just a phenomenon that the follow-up will inevitably become a letdown no matter what.

Pretty much.

The New York film critics will be interesting. I see Rex Reed hating it. Edelstein and Denby will probably give it positives. Juries out on AO Scott.

Not a review...although that will be part if it. Something more personal and glorious.
The Ms Marvel outfit you'll be wearing to it?

I'm going to cry a little on the inside if negative critic reviews from the U.S. cause it's rating to drop significantly.

So where is Mr. Beaks' review? It's been more than a week since he said he was going to put it up.

Harry Knowles is probably holding him back because he would want this movie to do well.
I don't think a review from Mr Beaks at AICN is going to prevent the movie from doing well. lol

Tomorrow morning, it will post. He says it will be positive.

I thought I read that his review will be borderline positive that may lean negative, but I'm glad to hear that it will be a positive after all.

Beaks was tweeting back and forth with Amy Nicholson, who wrote the first negative review, and some other critic about how the three of them planned to pan The Avengers. They were quite beligerant about it. I believe he said that the first act was "horrendous," or some such. At the time I posted that Knowles was probably going to take him to the woodshed over it, hence the long delay in posting it. That may or may not have happened, but he seems to have shifted his tone somewhat.

I'm glad to hear that if this is true. I may not like AICN very much, but I think it would be better if they can release a positive over a negative review for TA since some people on the Internet actually go over there for news and such.

I think Beaks view has been consistent -- he doesn't like the first two acts much, but thinks the third act redeems them. Even when he was trash talking the movie he said the review would be positive, just "barely" positive. Sounds to me like he's always felt it's a 3/5, 6.5/10 type movie for him. He's also literally the only geek/genre critic so far not to flip head over heels for it. Not a big deal.

Joss Whedon has crafted what I feel is the best superhero movie yet. It’s intense, satisfying, and even moving. THE AVENGERS has thrown down the gauntlet for this summer, one that like Thor’s hammer may be impossible for others to pick up. The mid-credits scene made me as a comic geek stand up and cheer and feels like a validation for this silly hobby of ours, that started in our rooms, reading these books and dreaming of our heroes, aspiring to greatness ourselves. THE AVENGERS is the movie of our childhood dreams brought to wonderful reality. It’s capital-G Great.

Exactly. Straight from the comic book pages :)

wow....just reading the review of the 2 negative reviews on RT...wow..there a lot of people with no life, personally offended not everyone loves their childhood dream film. I'll go see it, but I'm not going in with incredibly high expectations.

That whole thing is now my signature over on the IMDB boards! I love those three sentences!

I agree the reactions on those negative RT reviews are sickening, but I don't see how that relates to you going in with less than high expectations.

Are you implying the reason the movie is getting so much acclaim is that it's everyone's childhood dream film? Because plenty of mainstream non-geek critics who haven't liked many superhero films before like or even love The Avengers. It's not just good because it's an Avengers movie. It's good because it's good.
