It's all relative. He certainly has always had a more distinctive/well-defined personality than any of those characters being discussed, but...that's just not saying much.Fury's a developed character? He was a cartoon until Winter Soldier.
Well, to be fair, Xavier's emotional scene was reconned in the same movie in X3, and the deaths in DOFP were imo superficial since theirs too were reconned after Wolverine's mission was successful. I don't agree that Avengers' story was all about the spectacle, because Whedon put many scenes where the characters argued and bickered to each other, until the end when they finally got together to defeat a common enemy. There is more than enough meat in TA, although DOFP does have more emotional moments than TA.
No contest here.
"The Avengers" was an impressive action-adventure movie featuring superheroes. It was good fun. I loved it. Absolutely.
But DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is a serious and epic superhero drama who ranks among the greatest movie ever conceived and produced nowadays.
I still don't understand how the word "epic" can be used to describe DOFP.
Have to go with DOFP, it really corrected every mistake in the franchise and at the same time was an amazing movie in every way. Plus it reaches a level of drama and emotion that TA and the MCU in general just cant touch, I lost count of how many times I nearly cried in DOFP, Avengers never even brought a little bit of that.
I loved TA when i 1st saw it, but that love has dwindled with repeat viewings due to the lack of depth and emotion and the nagging feeling that Whedon wasnt really allowed to let loose (Serenity had a lot more depth and emotion than TA too coincidently). I am a huge fan of both Singer and Whedon, and in DOFP Singer really got to cut loose, I dont feel Whedon has had that chance in the MCU yet.
I feel stuff like that is the reason MCU movies, while non being bad, non have been truly great either, were as for X-Men has at least 3 great movies out of 7 (with The Wolverine, especially the EE being a very good movie and better than many MCU movies also).
But yeah DOFP for me, because it has everything The Avengers had and a lot more on top of that.

The Avengers was an exciting film, which masked a very ordinary plot with the awesome factor of seeing all of these characters on screen, together at once, culminating in the end sequence.
DOFP is up there with The Dark Knight trilogy, in terms of storytelling. Absolutely brilliant. It's not close.
Maybe so...but the general audience isn't picking apart camera angles and such. The mark of a popcorn film is not how great of a work of art it is, its how entertained by the spectacle was the crowd...and Avengers was the first time I saw MULTIPLE cases of the crowd getting to their feet in applause in the middle of a movie.
The only other African-American characters outside of Fury are also in supporting/side-kick roles. Also, the one time they do hire an African-American actress, she's being painted green.![]()
