Wally's race is basically part of his costume. His red hair poking out of the top his mask is his trademark. That's gone when you change his race.

DrCosmic- You're allowed to be okay with the race change, and we're allowed to not be okay with it. Even after reading your long winded, sometimes rambling posts, you haven't changed my mind. I still think it's a pretty big change, and IMO it seems unnecessary.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Iris. OMG! Even if this actress isn't cast, if whoever does it better than this, I will be so in love. Goodnight. Geez.

I really liked her energy, but I feel like she didn't take the audition very seriously. It was as if she was about to burst out laughing at any minute. She was better when she had to be serious, but I wasn't overly impressed with her.

That said, I think she would be good for the part. My issues with her are admittedly small and could easily be fixed over time. If she is of any indication of what they want to do with Iris, I'm going to LOVE the character.

I wasn't impressed at all by her acting, I was impressed by the writing.

Iris West audition tape. References to Atom Smasher and apparently The Trickster is in, as a serial murderer.

Yeeesh. Good lord. I really hate how their "relationship" sounds here, the whole "best friend in love with friend" thing I hate in general, what is this, Friends? What sitcom claptrap horesecrap. Also still dislike the whole "brother/sister" growing up together in the same house thing - who in their right mind thought this was in any way superior to the mature relationship Barry and Iris had in the comics? Instead we get black psychologist step sister just friends best friends in love - I think I actually dislike that characterization more than I do the race change - and if they really, REALLY were hell bent on doing a race change, why not just make Iris West asian like Linda Park or make her Linda Park at least? At least they maybe could have kept her character in tact more.

If this is an indication of how their relationship will be, you can bet I'll be changing the channel during those scenes, and if they dominate the show I'll be tuning in twice while it's on, once during the first 20 minutes to watch Flash face the villain, and then again at the end of the last 20 minutes to watch Flash beat the bad guy. Really hope it won't be like that when it could be so much more, but I'll wait and see at this point.

Still, happy to have a Flash anything though. Seriously.

Whoo hoo. Lol.

My stance on the race issue is basically the same with any major character. Any big superhero imo should remain the same race as they were in the comics. I'm much more lenient with small side characters like Perry White being changed, but I prefer major characters to remain the same.

I will say that I was intrigued by the idea of Donald Glover as Spidey though. That just works. If an actor is totally right for the role and just HAPPENS to be of a different race, than I'm fine with it. (See MCD as Kingpin) Otherwise, keep the major characters the way they are.

If it ain't broke....

Yep. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I stand by that...with everything.

Lol i have to do this with Arrow. Sometimes the romance is unbearably lame and cheesy..

And I can handle romance on film, I've seen a fair amount of romantic comedies and romantic movies, but the romance on Arrow usually just falls flat.

Which is why I'm happy they aren't really bothering with it anymore (aside from the occasional Oliver/Felicity fan service). I would be perfectly happy if every character remained single for the rest of the series.

That black is not the same color as white is so "outdated" that they have specified that Iris West be black SPECIFICALLY in the new show and are only auditioning BLACK actresses. If there were no difference, to even the producers at least, then there would be no specification. They don't even care about the best for the part here, they just want black, period.

.

This is a good point. The standard response to race changing complaints is that "They are obviously looking for the best person for the job." when in reality, they've already decided they want X cast with X race,97% of the time.Do you really think there isn't a suitable white actress out there for Iris if they look hard enough?

Yeah, thankfully this season has improved.I can just imagine how trying it'll be in Flash's show in the beginning.

I'm kind of worried that there will be a decrease in quality on Arrow once this show gets off the ground. The Vampire Diaries used to be a fantastic show, but after one of the executive producers left, it slowly turned to ****. I hope that doesn't happen here.

That's a bit of an exaggeration.

This is a reasonable concern to have. I can see Flash being the focus of most of the creativity

Same. But I won't worry until it happens (and hopefully it doesn't).

Honestly, it wouldn't bother me that much so long as The Flash is good enough. If the Flash is amazing/the best superhero tv show ever, I'm willing to accept a slight drop in quality for Arrow. I just care a lot more about the Flash than Arrow. And on the bright side, at least we've gotten a lot of great episodes from Arrow already.

Right, absolutely. 99% of the time they've already decided what they want beforehand.

Most romances on tv shows, particularly CW/The WB shows are notoriously bad - Arrow's been no exception either, unfortunately, in addition to some pretty bad dialog a lot of times.

I'm watching the old Flash TV show right now, the episode with Captain Cold, and man was this good stuff. I really wish the show would have lasted longer than it did.

Likewise. I'd be happy if they cut out the soap operaic "romance" stuff completely.

I wonder how many people working on Arrow will be working on Flash to begin with...

Dude I LOVE that episode! I tried to watch the Mirror Master episode a couple days ago, but wasn't feelin it... the best episodes imo were the Trickster ones and the Captain Cold ep. It's very inspired by Burton's Batman, and I dig that.

Well, yeah it's okay to think it's a big change, that makes sense. It's not really okay to say 'they're just doing it for X reason' with no basis. That's slander or something. Definitely not okay. I suppose it's 'okay' to look at art in terms of broke and fixed, but it's so blind and limited, it's hard for me to accept that someone would want to live that way, especially if it's done selectively. But maybe I just should. -shrug-

Sure the Wally character isn't broke and doesn't need to be fixed, but who's to say that changing something like skin color or whatever wouldn't *improve* the character to new hieghts?

Not to stir all this up again since I've taken myself out of the convo, but it's honestly one of those things where we don't know until (if) a change happens. If it flops then yeah, the change wasn't worth it or working, but if it works then you've now enhanced that character even further and becomes an even better thing no?

But as always, I'll just be sitting over here waiting and seeing until I finally fully judge :)

Same. If there has to be romance, it should be in the background. I like how they've been handling Roy and Thea's relationship this season. It's more of an afterthought than a focus most of the time.

I wonder how many people working on Arrow will be working on Flash to begin with...

I'm not sure. I think I read that Berlanti will be an executive producer. I don't really care who makes the transition as long as Arrow continues to be a quality series.
