To us here on the forums and to comic fans all over the world it would be great to see Grodd, but to the general audience the show would have jumped the shark

Also: although I'm fine with Grodd, I'd rather Gorilla City not exist.

GC doesn't have to exist, and I seriously doubt the show has that kind of budget.

If Marvel can get Rocket Raccoon over with the GA sheeple, there is no excuse for WB to avoid Grodd.

Neither is the Flash, really, but here we are.

Indeed. A man who can run at or near the speed of light without burning up from the friction is feasible, but a super-intelligent ape isn't.
Right. :whatever:

Maybe, maybe not, it all depends on the execution and can they do a credible job on a TV budget.

Yep. I don't want to see a man in a suit or obvious computer effects being used to make a real gorilla's mouth move.

I guess they could do a "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" type thing where he is just a genetically engineered Gorilla who is really intelligent. It would be hard to do on a TV budget though.

That's the most common suggestion for TV Grodd. To make it even easier to do on a tv budget, make Grodd silent. Focus on his eyes more. Have Grodd speak only in people's minds and through other people.

That's the most likely way to go about adapting Grodd. a talking gorilla on a tv budget will look bad... i don't think it'll happen

I think this thread has made me not care about Grodd anymore...

I wanna see Trickster!! :D

One of the good things about doing a Flash TV show is that most of his villains fit better on TV than a movie. I couldn't imagine a movie where the main villain was Captain Cold or Mirror Master or Captain Boomerang, but they could all be great recurring villains on a TV show. Really the only person who could be the main villain of a movie is Zoom, unless they did the Rogues as a team as the main villains.

Grodd is way more interesting than Trickster. I loved Mark Hamill's Trickster though

And Trickster is apparently in the pilot so you're in luck.

With the amount to villains Flash has in his Rogues they could save Grodd till the final season.
Like you said Archer the Rogues are perfect for TV.

So seeing how this is his thread what about some casting ideas for the Rogues
Captain Cold
Captain Boomerang
Heat Wave
Trickster
Mirror Master
Weather Wizard
The Top
Captain Boomerang II
Pied Piper
Abra Kadabra

I could get behind this and I know this doesn't need to be said but Grodd would have to be a season long villain not a few episodes.

Mirror Master is one of the few Flash Rogues that could easily be portrayed close to the comic interpretation and not feel too silly. The costume would need to be changed, but the abilities are actually pretty cool when you think about it.

He has access to all of the mirrors and reflective surfaces in the world. The whole mirage thing could be portrayed pretty well also. I think Mirror Master could work very well on screen. With a few tweaks, I feel like Doctor Alchemy, Abra Kadabra, Pied Piper, and Heat Wave could work too... it would just take more creativity.

Heck, any of them could worked with. Batroc the Leaper is going to be in a Marvel movie for crying out loud.

But the rest of your point is well taken.

Grodd would be hard to pull off on a CW budget.

Actually most of the villains sound hard to pull off on a CW budget...

I'm curious to see how this show turns out with regards to VFX.

Rocket Raccoon within the context of that movie makes sense, it has aliens in it.

If the Flash follows arrow, being a grounded reality, albeit with fantastic elements, Gorilla Grodd is pushing it a bit too much.

Personally, GG is ridiculous so I could do without him, but I see why people want the character. I just don't think a tv show on a limited budget should be doing it at all.

I'm sure its going to be a struggle already with the flash costume, Visual effects and villains as is on a cw budget.

I think ASM did most of the heavy lifting for them. All they need to do is execute that basic idea in a way that is consistent with the tone they've established for this universe. A difficult task, maybe, but certainly not impossible.

I understand that. I wouldn't be bothered if we never saw him.

I keep seeing the commercial for ABC's new series Mindgames and one of the stars,Steve Zahn, caught my eye for Leonard Snart.

He kinda reminds me of the guy that played the original Captain Cold in the 90's show.

Grodd will most definitely not appear at least for a few seasons. Realistically speaking, he would only appear fully formed towards the end of the show (seasons 4, 5, maybe even later). Assuming the show is solid and gains a good reputation, there is nothing that guarantees he can't be done well visually with a somewhat bigger budget.

Heck, this is slightly a different topic, but we are kinda going through a TV renaissance at the moment. Shows like Breaking Bad/Game of Thrones/Sherlock/True Detective/etc. are all pushing the boundaries and showing that you can do just as much or more with television than with live-action movies. I believe part of the reason why we're getting more Marvel/DC shows is due to that (Arrow, Flash, iZombie, Constantine, Hourman, Gotham, Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, The Defenders, Agent Carter, and whatever else I missed). That being said, if Grodd is brought in like season 5, that would make his appearance 5 years from now. Who knows where this show, superhero shows in general, and TV shows in general will be by then?

I'm not guaranteeing anything; just stating that I think Grodd has somewhat of a chance on TV in the not-too-distant future. Arrow in particular came a long way in just 1.5 years. It started as something everyone brushed off as another cliché CW drama. Now you have articles titled "Arrow = best superhero TV show" and "What the highly successful Marvel Studios can learn from Arrow on TV". Flash at least has the advantage of being released post-Arrow and post-2013 "TV boom". Again, I'm not guaranteeing anything, but I do think we might be able to get a decent Grodd down the line assuming the show itself is great.

If she's just a recurring guest star, I imagine we'll probably see her as often as we've seen Oliver's father. I doubt it'll be as flashback heavy as Arrow. I just don't see how it would work that way. Barry doesn't have anything like Oliver being on the island to justifying having continuous flashbacks running parallel to present events.

Yeah true, that makes sense. I suppose young Barry will also be cast soon.

So I wonder if that's how they're going to incorporate flashbacks in this?
