The Batman Reboot Casting Thread - Part 1

Depp's a great actor, one of the best, but I disagree. He'd make a great Joker or Riddler, tho..

Depp was actually considered for Batman before. Tim Burton wanted him for Batman Forever, but the studio didn't care about Burton anymore at that point. Search 'Johnny Depp Batman Forever' on Google. SHH is blocking the URL on here.

Depp could have pulled it off for sure back then. He would have been a logical choice for the continuation of the Keaton version.

Acting is acting. No "crappy" actor can pull that kind of reaction from a veteran voice director.

Voice acting is a completely different sphere. This is why some of the best voice actors have trouble making it in Hollywood with onscreen acting.

Obviously they want to keep Nolan, but I don't think he has much intrest in sticking around to make Batman movies the rest of his career.

Eventually his role as producer will turn into what Burton did on BF. Name only..

What are you basing this on? Intuition?

The Burton producer case was completely different. WB was trying to get rid of him after he disappointed them with Batman Returns.

I believe he talks about it toward the end here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gB9P43xD1w&feature=relmfu

With Nolan, WB is relying on him for quality control and creative direction. They have a billion dollar property on their hands now, so they're playing it safe.

The only reason Batman is being 'rebooted' is TDKR ends in a way that can't allow for any sequels, according to CHUD.

Nolan's partnership with the studio is bound to continue if they continue to fund his own movies, like Inception. They're in a great place now.

Fair enough, but there are substantially more Bale Batman parodies. The majority of Joker-related videos I see on YT are impersonations, they don't outright mock the character's voice...

The majority of youtube parodies mock the Batman character in general (and his supporting villain roster) on a conceptual level. The vast majority aren't meant to be taken seriously and aren't trying to make a point or complaint. They're just done for fun.

Youtube parodies aren't really an indication of anything, speaking as someone who's made them. Some of the best movies and best performances have plenty of youtube impersonations online.

Wes Bentley would be a great successor to Christian Bale as Batman. New pictures of them shooting the upcoming Terrence Malick film.

Bentley's not my first choice, but if he was cast, I would be onboard with it.

He'd have some way to go to make up for the mess that was his Blackheart.

Wes Bently would be too tiny.

Sure Keaton pulled it off but Bently doesn't have to on screen presence of Keaton. Not even close.

I wanted Bentley for Wayne back when BATMAN BEGINS was casting. I can kind of see it...haven't seen a strong performance from him in a while.

bentley looks the part. i like him better then most choices mentioned here. as good as fassbender is, he's already magneto, don't really dig gosling as bruce, ackles neither.

here he is with vicky vale and bane. :o

I wouldn't really care for him. As much as I don't want to, because I'd like to be able to move on from this series I think Bale is going to be "My Batman".

His lack of physical height and lack of on screen presence is not a moot point.

Physical height? Bentley is around Bale's height.

IMDB has him at 5'11.

Screen presence is debatable, but he wouldn't be getting so many promising projects on the horizon if he lacked presence.

5'11 is the perfect height for Batman, considering we have a Superman who's 6'1.

I don't know, I think Wes Bentley was the second best thing after Peter Fonda in the movie. Sure, he was impossible to take seriously, but he had a certain bombastic Snidely Whiplash sensibility to him, like he wasn't taking it seriously, but was having fun.

Hair Color - Doesn't matter

Physique - Unless they are missing body parts and not below a certain height........doesn't matter. Hell the suit probably adds a few inches anyway. Given enough time, an actor can go from skinny to huge in a few months. Of course it's easier to start with someone whose already pretty fit, but I think we have seen enough guys (Bale and Maguire) go from tiny to big. It's getting them to do it for the sequel that's always been an issue.

Quite a few of the actors mentions here are starting to push into the 50's. Unless we are going much older(like we have Nightwing around older) then they gotta go younger so the actor will age with the role.

Wasn't Wes Bentley the guy that Aronofsky wanted for his Batman movie?

Yeah, Aronofsky liked Bentley and Bale as his favorites.
