I really hope the success of The Avengers pushes WB to invest in a JL film, because I would love to be able to sit at home and watch The Avengers and a JL film in the near future.

But aren't those actors part of the draw to see them team up. If Marvel had recast all the roles for the Avengers it would definitely be less of a draw, and they have had plenty of criticism for dropping Edward Norton.
When it comes to how much budget a particular movie needs or wants, the prospective gross certainly comes into play and the studios are working on antiquated ideas of what makes money, name values being the strongest of them all.
