Bale, Oldman, Caine, Neeson, Freeman, Ledger, Eckhart, Gyllenhaal, Hardy, Levitt, Hathaway...

Has anyone noticed that all the leads for these films are Hollywood A-listers or potential A-listers.

It's obviously intentional.

This thread is boring me, time to spice things up!

Nice hypothetical idea but your casting of Catwoman could be better.

Bale was not an A-Lister before he was Batman. Eckhart arguably still isn't. Oldman is someone who brings acclaim, not box office dollars. What the actors Nolan has assembled have in common is that they can all act, regardless of their "list" status.

Michael Stuhlbarg has been my choice for Riddler for a while. He's so underrated. Good choice, Eddie Dean.

I still can't get on board with Bentley. Maybe just because I don't think he has a shot in hell of landing the role. I know Bale was somewhat of an unknown when he was cast, but I think he had that "it" factor that intrigued people. I don't see that in Bentely... like, at all.

Bale was definitely a rising star. American Psycho had a ton of acclaim, and he'd turned in solid performances in some weak-to-decent genre films (Reign of Fire, Equilibrium). But, personally, I don't think there's anything about Bentley that sets him apart. He can play dark, sure, but he always comes off as creepy and unlikable. Batman takes more than darkness. The actor needs to play so many layers: dark and brooding, a playboy facade, violent, heroic. Bentley doesn't have it.

Eckhart is definitely in A-list film circles at least.

Bale wasn't, but he had potential to be.

Nolan mentioned that. He intentionally cast Bale around big name established actors, patterned after how Richard Donner cast Superman 1978.

Batman is really the only role in this that could be a lesser known. The rest will go to big names as long as Chris Nolan is producer.

American Beauty had a ton of acclaim. Bentley was solid in Hunger Games as well.

His upcoming Terrence Malick films will boost his resume too.

He's more or less where Bale was before being cast in Batman Begins.

He's starred alongside the likes of Bale, Ledger, Spacey etc. He's very much in the right Hollywood circle to be considered for this.

IMO he has the best potential to deliver a more subtle take on the character, on par with Keaton. Keaton was arguably the best performance for the character. It was very psychological, cerebral and internal. It would be a clean departure from Bale but still unmistakably Batman.

Yeah, exactly. That's it. I can see why people think Bentley looks like Bruce Wayne, but to me, he looks more like Bruce Wayne's creepy little brother. He looks the way I'd imagine Owlman (Thomas Wayne Jr.) if they ever did a JLA: Earth 2 movie.

Neither Bale or Eckhardt were A listers before their Batman role.

Bale is interesting in that he was a rising star when he was younger. Then his star fizzled a bit, and he became a rising star again, years and years later. Something that's almost unheard of in Hollywood. And Christian Bale was on WB's radar because of Darren Aronofsky. Fans like to pretend he was always their first choice, but until WB/Aronofsky started tossing around the name, they had no clue who Bale was. As I recall, the fan choice prior to Bale was David Boreanz.

Wes Bentley has gotten sort of pigeonholed into creepy roles of late, or those may just be what he's taken on.

But he wasn't creepy in THE FOUR FEATHERS. He was as genuine and stoic as they come, and there was a nice range to his character.

I could see Bentley pulling it off precisely because of the range he showed in THE FOUR FEATHERS. He was also excellent in THE HUNGER GAMES. He was originally my first choice for Batman back when YEAR ONE was being bandied about and they talked about a younger Bruce Wayne. And who says Bruce Wayne/Batman can't be a little creepy?

Part of me is still curious what Josh Jackson's Bruce Wayne/Batman would have been like.

Bentley went through the same fizzling as well. He was a rising star a decade ago, then fell in with serious drugs and his career died.

Now he's making a comeback, which is a challenging feat to pull off in Hollywood, but he's getting good work again.

Ive been saying that Aronofsky will be the next director (So has Gillberg), so it would fitting for him to bring Bentley on board finally.

Maybe Tobey should be the next Batman, since he's not Spidey anymore. :D

So here's my cast for the reboot. My personal favs. I'm pretty sure Riddler is the villain for the first of the series but i didn't cast him yet. But these are characters i'd enjoy seeing in the next 3 or 4 films.

Okay, looks like Bentley is more likely will get it than any other dudes being suggested, speaking about the level of creepiness, looks and other advantages.

IMO, both Batman & Bruce need to be heroic-creepy, not loser-ish creepy, and whoever plays him has to be a very smart actor and not a one-note actor.
