I've seen images of Japanese stores (I believe) with signs informing customers that the establishment will only serve Japanese people. I have no reason to believe that this is a widespread phenomena. It's naïve to suggest that discrimination and racism doesn't occur in Asian countries.

Japanese isn't a race though.

They discriminate against other Asians all the time.

So their goal of genetic and cultural homogeneity is not hypocritically multi-ethnic (like white nationalism).

Nope, It will show the power of black films, it's a lie back films don't sell. It will do will every where.

It was not a lie. It was a fact because of racism and because their was a lack of big budget films featuring Black actors as the lead actors. However, by putting out more big budget movies starring Black lead actors the international market are starting to accept and embrace Black lead films.

It's also taken a toll on their population.

The Japanese can still not like black people because they're black people and not just because they're not Japanese.

We might be getting off topic now.

I agree. Let's try and stray off the topic of racism in Asian countries and more directly on BP and its BO :)

200 mil 4 day weekend? Damn. The expectations are too high at this point, I'm a little nervous about a letdown now.

I won't be disappointed if it doesn't hit 200 m. At this point 400m + domestic looks to be guaranteed. Who would have thought that even 2 weeks ago? Insane.

Is the 4 day weekend an unfair advantage? If we were to compare it to other movies we'd probably have to use 3 days instead right?

I think predictions were closer to half that about 6 months ago. This has built so much momentum since then.

You can only compare 3 day vs 3 day of course. Even then there is an advantage to your 3 day of having a 4 day as the 3rd day is no longer the end of the weekend and can act like another Saturday.

ohh ok, well i'm not really sure how box offices and tracking for movies work so i guess i'll have to wait till its theater run is over to get a proper idea of how this does in comparison to the other marvel movies. I still hear people saying spiderman homecoming didn't do well but it made over 800 million dollars right? lol it's all confusing

You can still tell a lot from opening weekend and then a lot more from the 2nd weekend which gives a big indicator of how well the film will hold. I guess any number of hundreds of millions will sound like a lot but it also depends on how much you would expect to make from a certain franchise (and how much it makes against comparable level competitors) and the budget.

People who claim Homecoming didn't do well just don't have a clue what they're talking about lol

Is anyone saying Homecoming didn't do well?

In this case i think HC 2nd weekend drop was misleading.

I just remember seeing headlines like this and i think Grace (the Beyondthetrailer lady who thinks disney pays off critics) and another spiderman centered youtube channel saying things like it didn't perform well according to sony's expectations and etc but I don't really understand box office terminology like that so i might have misunderstood what they meant

It's an advantage for sure but I'm not sure if we should call it an unfair one at that. All the 4 day weekends (MLK weekend, President's Day weekend, Memorial Day weekend, Independence Day weekend, Labor Day weekend etc) have the advantage of better and much improved Sundays over the traditional 3 day openers. The Sunday in a 4 day weekend will still behave like they usually do for a 3 day weekend but the drop from Saturday will be muted in case of 4 day openers w.r.t that of 3 day openers. The Holiday falling on a Monday will cushion the Sunday, giving it a better than expected drop from Saturday.

oh and i also see a lot of disagreement over how well the last jedi did so it feels like it's a very subjective topic which is odd because you'd think numbers could speak for themselves

One should always hold off on making conclusions about a movie's BO run until the actual run is over. That way we can have the benefit of hindsight. ;) ;)

SM:H was a huge success for Sony. You shouldn't pay heed to anyone who says SM:H didn't do well because they are ignorant to facts and raw numbers.

SMH was 10 million away from being the highest grossing Spider-man movie.

No small feat considering it was yet another reboot (reboots are a tough sell) and the previous movie was critical and box office disappointment.

If you think a previous film can't sink a franchise just look at BvS and Justice League.

Yeah i remember seeing WonderWoman literally on it's last showing at my theater (late-August), like if I'd missed it I'd have had to wait for the dvd and it was still packed to the brim. I usually skip out on opening nights to avoid crowds but that clearly didn't work here lol

I think it's because everybody keeps thinking these movies will make a billion, at least the people in the youtube comments of videos. Can't count how many times I've seen "I can see this making a billion" on videos for Gotg 2, Thor ragnarok and Black Panther so anything falling short of that probably looks like a disappointment

Marvel is VERY happy with last year's take, LOL! Don't let anyone fool you.

A substudio (Marvel) making over 2.4 billion in a single year?

Completely unprecedented and ground breaking.

that's great because last year was the best year for mcu movies imo (maybe even comic book movies in general). loved every single marvel movie released. hope that happens again this year.
