The Amazing Spider-Man The Box Office Thread

if spidey has an amazing trailer it will make loads of money. simple as that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Spider-Man was the highest grossing film of 2012. If it isn't first then it will sure and hell be the second.

TDKR and The Avengers say hello :o

avengers is an unknown quantity as you have no idea how the thor/cap movies are going to do. the only 'sure' mega hit is batman as it is the end of the trilogy and is coming off the back of the uber successful TDK.
spidey is a reboot and whilst SM3 was massive there is no way to tell how the GA will handle a new cast and crew.

like I said if the trailer is amazing people will come out to see this in their droves. many people may not know this but internationally SM3 made MORE than TDK. spidey is HUGE overseas.

Spider-man will Finish behind, Batman 3, Avengers, The Hobbit and Star Trek 2

I see TDKR gettin a bil or more
The Hobbit getting 400-500 mil
ST2 Avengers and ASM getting 500-600 mil each
if ASM gets an amazing trailer I can see 500-800 mil
(its freakin spider-man)

Spider-man will Finish behind, Batman 3, Avengers, The Hobbit and Star Trek 2

bold statement.

behind hobbit? - more than likely but hobbit probably will be the highest grossing movie of the year.

behind bat 3? - more than likely as people will want to see how the nolan bat franchise ends

behind avengers? - debateable. all three spidey movies have made more than the indivdiual movies of the avengers (and that will probably still be the case after thor and cap). no one knows how the GA will respond to the collective group of heroes, after all x-men wasn't huge.

behind star trek? - based on what exactly? the last spidey made more at the movies and more on DVD and blu ray. more people went to see SM3 at the cinema AND at home.

going to be difficult to beat the dark knight rises but the rest of the competition shouldnt be a problem for spidey.

personally I think the biggest movie of the year will be the hobbit. then it's a fight between spidey, avengers and supes for the number 2 superhero movie of the year*

*unless TDKR sucks and I wouldn't rule it out with the villians being catwoman (UGH!) and bane (*shudder*)

Exactly.

I will give my guess on what the domestic haul will be on this when we get some trailers. Right now though, I will guarantee that this won't make as much as any of the previous films did domestic...yes even in 3D.

i really doubt this

i really doubt this

for spidey to make more domestic than SM (the highest grossing domestic spidey of the franchise) 'amazing' would have to do more than 400m. normally I would say 'no chance' but the 3D prices will be a massive factor and unlike thor, cap, GL and even TDKR this movie is being shot in NATIVE 3D so there will be a REASON to see it in 3D.

TDKR has no Ledger and BB was a Failure at the Box Office,so i don´t see a reason why Spidey shouldn´t beat this Movie.
The Hobbit might be a bigger challange....but who knows.

Irrelevant. The first Hobbit movie won't be hitting next year. They can't physically make that release date when they're filming for 18 months straight (and won't even start till the end of next month) plus 3D rendering and all that massive effects work.

behind bat 3? - more than likely as people will want to see how the nolan bat franchise ends

No ifs, ands or buts. Dark Knight Rises is 2012's top grosser. Same thing as Spider-Man 3. It can be pure **** and it's still going to dominant because of the popularity of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

behind avengers? - debateable. all three spidey movies have made more than the indivdiual movies of the avengers (and that will probably still be the case after thor and cap). no one knows how the GA will respond to the collective group of heroes, after all x-men wasn't huge.

Let's see how Thor and Captain America do first. The Avengers isn't a sure-thing at the box-office just yet and Iron Man 2 wasn't hugely popular like its predecessor.

behind star trek? - based on what exactly? the last spidey made more at the movies and more on DVD and blu ray. more people went to see SM3 at the cinema AND at home.

Based on how overwhelmingly positive Star Trek was received by critics, fandom and general public. They ate it up in the same fashion they did with Batman Begins back in 2005 - even more so considering Trek did $260 million compared to Begins' $205 million. It won people over who normally don't like "those kind of movies." Which helped lay the tracks for The Dark Knight in 2008. Same thing with Star Trek.

The Hobbit might be a bigger challange....but who knows.

Um, $205 million domestically and a $373 worldwide (including domestic) total on a $150 million budget is a failure?

Just because a movie is shot in native 3D means squat. Tron's 3D was lackluster and so was Resident Evil, both shot natively.

Either way, The Avengers, The Hobbit, and TDKR will all make more than this film...which is not to say that this movie is going to bomb but that it will come in fourth most likely.

did i hear Batman Begins was a failure? wow

aside from that, the ranking will probably go

1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. The Avengers
3. The Amazing Spider-Man
4. Star Trek 2

and who ever said that this movie has no Ledger, **** you dude. seriously, that movie wasnt built on his acting skills, it was Nolan's directing. Ledger was a brilliant actor in anything aside from The Dark Knight.

^^ I'll be honest, as massive as Avengers is going to be, I see it coming in at 3rd with Spidey coming in at #2 (wish it as #1) in the box office.

Ledger's death was definately a factor in TDK's success, not THE factor be definately one Of the reasons the movie was massive.

Also it's pointless to compare Spidey in 3D and tron in 3D, one is the one of the biggest most recognisable icons on the face of the planet...the other is not. Also SM3 not being well received critically won't make the difference some people think it will as I'm 100% positive transformers 3 will clean up and TF2 was absolutely slammed critically.

You guys are going to be in for a shock at how big Star Trek will be, Spidey could possibly be smashed between Trek and Batman

Bingo. Not to mention (and no, I'm not kidding) the fourth Ice Age will do damage too.

Sony would be wise to take The Amazing Spider-Man and swap it out with Men in Black 3. Trek 2 will still dominant, but they'd have a better chance with the King of July 4th there instead of a new (and heavily unproven) web-slinger.
