It should easily surpass $800 million worldwide at this point.

I agree the 750 was like if it crashed and burned from hear to the end.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did about $506 million overseas by comparison.

Right and I think most places this movie is ahead of the amazing Spider-Man 2 at the same point in time. Plus it will not be long before it passes amazing Spider-Man 2 in USA.

It's gotta touch $800M to at least break the "Spidey rut". It clearly has already and should hit $800M. There's also no CBM until November, so Spidey is the only event film of its kind for the rest of the summer.

$9,902,669 on Wednesday, 34.2% drop from Tuesday. $154,185,220 after 6 days. Good number, and once again dropping pretty much what you would expect. Drop is similar to Ant-Man(-34.8%), Wonder Woman(-35%) and many more superhero movies that had went up about 20-25% on the Tuesday before.

The weekend might give the first indication of legs, so far it's doing pretty much what you would expect a well received superhero movie to do during the first few weekdays in the summer.

After seeing Apes, I am really curious to see how it stacks up to Spider-Man. The films honestly couldn't be any more different, and I think that's good so they won't fight against each other too much.

It's a bit strange as I want Apes to do well without affecting what Spidey does at all lol.

part of june-mostly first 10 days have some schools still in session-I SAID SOME schools in some states.

I didn't say otherwise. Point is, many US schools are out by the end of May/early June, so the difference between June and July box office numbers isn't that great. We're likely to see much more of a difference between May and June, which means the difference between GOTG2 and WW weekday numbers is greater/more noteworthy than the difference between WW and Spidey.

So apparently China isn't going to release this during the summer? That's disappointing. Hopefully that won't cut too much into the overall gross.

China won't release any foreign movies for a few weeks. They have a ban on foreign movies, called the "summer blackout", which is why all previous July/August MCU movies(GotG, TFA, Ant-Man) were released in September or October.

Variety said:
The effective summer blackout is set to end Aug. 25 when both “Cars 3” and “Baby Driver” cruise into Chinese multiplexes. “Dunkirk” follows on Sept. 1. The only other U.S. film currently known to have an August release date is “My Other Home,” which goes out Aug. 11, but that film, from Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, has a significant Chinese component in that it was produced by Beijing Forbidden City Film and dramatizes the life of basketball star Stephon Marbury as he discovers China.

Chinese regulators traditionally reserve anywhere between four to six weeks in July and August for local titles, shunning Hollywood fare in order to shore up the Chinese movies’ performance at the box office. The move, along with similar periods during Chinese New Year and late December, allows China to control market share and ensure that Chinese-language films end the year with 55% to 60% of the annual Chinese box office.

This doesn't mean a movie will necessarily do subpar business in China. Look at Ant-Man for example, that's the 5th biggest MCU movie in China(after AoU, CW, IM3 and DS), and it made over $105M in China. But movie studios don't have full control over the China release date(the Chinese government decides on those), which is why movies can sometimes get horrible release dates. One of the best examples of this would be when they gave TDKR the same release date as TASM (both ended up making about $50M in China), which of course cost both movies millions of dollars.

It and Wonder Woman.

There was an article just came out how WB is planning to keep WW going strong all throughout August. It's still in 3000 theaters unbelievably.

True. IT is a..different kind, not so much superhero but definitely something a lot of groups will go out to see. Wonder Woman IS dying down but still making money lol. 3000 theaters...man, that's great. Good for them

I think Bruce Malone was saying "it" as in "Homecoming" being the "it."

If that's the case with Wondy, I'm curious if they're really wanting to stretch this thing past $400m (which isn't as much a stretch as one may think)

It's a bit strange as I want Apes to do well without affecting what Spidey does at all lol.
I think we all do. Buuut, maybe slightly underperforming while still doing "decent" wouldn't hurt my feelings...:sly:
Spidey at $200m+ million after this weekend will be great. I'm looking forward to seeing it again in a week or two.

I'll be seeing the movie tomorrow. Can't help but love the Apes series. Looking forward to this one. Honestly a better trilogy than the original Spidey or TDK, imo.

Haha.

Apes is high quality and I like the films but I won't get the same level of repeat-rewatchability that I could get from certain comic properties.

I'd like War to do well because it's such a different beast from modern blockbusters that I want other studios and directors to take notice. It really does feel like a movie from the 60s and 70s in terms of pacing, cinematography, editing, score, etc.

But Homecoming is still my favorite film of the year and The Last Jedi is probably the only thing that could challenge that.

Man, then he should've said "that"! Bruce! Ha, jk.

So it's tracking to hit over the $200M mark by the end of this weekend. It should make $250M ish around the third weekend so it should definitely hit the $300M mark.

Yeah, I definitely want it to do well too to reward its efforts and encourage films like this to be made.

I could understand given the high-stakes and somber tone mixed with a potential (and I'm speculating) not-so-happy or ambiguous ending (I'll stop there). I know the other Apes films left me realizing I had just watched a real film (not that SMH isn't) in the sense that, "That was heavy. Let me digest that for a while" especially after the second film. It's a tremendous series and a vast improvement over the original movies which devolved into kitsch and are very dated.

Yeah, I know what you're getting at. There's a lot to be said for films which can achieve that.

my prediction for final domestic total:

minimum $330 M

maximum $380 M

Yeah I think 800 m is the least it will make. If it has just a multiple of 2.5 that would get it to 642.5 based of what it did its first weekend of 257 then you have Japan and China still were the last Spider-Man movie made about 124 million and considering this movie seems to be making more then amazing Spider-Man 2 was in most places I could see it doing more like 140 in those 2 places. That would mean 782.5 and that dosnt include some of the smaller places were the movie has not came out yet.

It's a bit strange as I want Apes to do well without affecting what Spidey does at all lol.

Yeah I am the same Apes was my most anticipanted movie of the year behind only star wars the last jedi and I loved the last one and liked the one before that a lot so I would like it to do like 300 USA. Spider-Man HC I wasn't expecting a lot from it but ended up loving it so I want it to do great.

Yeah China is odd lol.

Will be interesting to see how long WW continues to play in theaters around me. Most movies play in theaters for around a month and a half were I live and it has been about a month and a half. Amazing Spider-Man 2 was only in theaters around me for about a month. The longest I can remember a movie being in theaters around me was frozen was like 50 months. Out side of that I don't think a movie has been in theaters for more then like 3 months.

If that's the case with Wondy, I'm curious if they're really wanting to stretch this thing past $400m (which isn't as much a stretch as one may think)

I can agree about Spider-Man has 3 was a big disappointment and Spider-Man 1 while still good has not aged well. I have to disagree big time with the dark knight trilogy has all 3 of the dark knight movies are better then either rises of the apes or dawn.

I think Homecoming is my favorite movie of the year but I need to see it again to be sure also loved logan and I can see Apes maybe chaning that and star wars is my most hyped movie of the year loved episode 7 its my second favorite star wars movie and I think 8 could be the best star wars yet and if it is that means like a top 5 all time favorite movie for me.

300 domestic would be massive for Apes given what past films made but good luck to it! With HC I was really hyped after the first teaser having loved the CW appearance and that hype started melting away after a while and I wasn't that impressed by the full trailer. My hype only really came back after the reviews started coming in. I was looking forward more to films like Ragnarok after its teaser and WW.

Dawn made a lot of cash partially because it was the only good movie in July 2014. War doesn't have that luxury, and having seen it, I'm not sure what the GA will think of it, since it's very different from your typical blockbuster. It could do around 200M DOM, but not much more than that.

Homecoming I think will get to 350M best case scenario. Probably more realistically closer to BVS/SS numbers.

I know 300 is very unlikely for apes but considering how good dawn was and how good war is it deserves to make that kind of money. Dawn made 208 USA I could see this doing a little bit more then that because it is coming off a great movie in dawn not just a good movie like dawn was coming off of after rises. HC I was not hyped because I find most MCU movies to be flat out overratied and the trailers didn't impress me much and I didn't like they were making him a kid again but didn't ended up minding him being a kid and ended up liking it and vulture is a lame villain so wasn't looking forward to that but they made him good in the movie.

I think you are right about HC dawn I think will do a little more then people expect maybe not 300 lol but I think like 250 not 200.

I won't argue that it deserves it!

Yeah same, I didn't love hearing that they were going back to high school hardcore or that Vulture was going to be the villain when I first heard but it looks like both of those turned out for the best.
