domestic figures

Well I guess if you're just talking about adding a bunch of random new species if the background, sure, they "already tried that".

But I think what Iceman was talking about was adding substantial alien characters in general (as in, characters that are important to the plot, and not just background decoration) and expanding on the worlds and societies they come from (we got none of this in the ST, aside from some rushed bits in RoS).
Yes, thanks. This is what I meant. Kind of like the Mass Effect games.

Rey is a metaphor for Disney, taking the iconography of everything Disney buys out. Which come to think about it is not Walt Disney any more than Lucasfilm is George Lucas now.

Domestic Box Office $507,056,021
International Box Office $551,000,000
Worldwide Box Office $1,058,056,021

That moves it past Rogue One worldwide.

Does this movie not pass Joker?

I now raise my prediction to:

$515 million domestic
$555 million international
$1.070 billion worldwide
.

Looks like I will be right on this projection that I made 18 days ago

Stamina updates for the Top 10 domestic movies >$200M (2015-2020):

(update: Joker total +$122,527; no other impact)

Looks like it just barely squeaked by Joker. I would stop short of calling a billion dollar grossing movie a failure, but it probably could have and should have done better.

I thought Joker was at 1.068 billion. If that's not the case then my mistake.

TROS will end up being a film that stands fine in total gross and profit, but will feel like an underperformer strictly in a comparative sense - that by comparison to TFA’s haul, TLJ’s critical reception, RO’s success as a spinoff vs a series entry, Avengers Endgame’s record breaking performance, and maybe ROTJ’s general success as a happy ending to the OT, it’s not as good or successful as it “should” be.

Thats’ probably part of the reason LFL is taking baby steps with future films. They know it *should* be more successful, and they don’t want to miss out on whatever their next max potential is.

a Mass Effect type Star Wars movie would be nerdgasmic

Thought I’d replied to this. This is exactly what I’d want from the ultimate space saga!
