Well I guess if you're just talking about adding a bunch of random new species if the background, sure, they "already tried that".

But I think what Iceman was talking about was adding substantial alien characters in general (as in, characters that are important to the plot, and not just background decoration) and expanding on the worlds and societies they come from (we got none of this in the ST, aside from some rushed bits in RoS).

If a year ago you'd told me that a grounded, dark and almost non-CBM like version of the Joker would outperform the last episode of the Star Wars Skywalker Saga at the box office, I would've laughed at you.

Crossed the 510 mark domestically this weekend. Stuck at 1.06 billion WW after OS actuals came in a bit lower than projected. May get updated in the next couple days. Joker looks out of reach to me now.

I thought Joker was at 1.068 billion. If that's not the case then my mistake.

TROS will end up being a film that stands fine in total gross and profit, but will feel like an underperformer strictly in a comparative sense - that by comparison to TFA’s haul, TLJ’s critical reception, RO’s success as a spinoff vs a series entry, Avengers Endgame’s record breaking performance, and maybe ROTJ’s general success as a happy ending to the OT, it’s not as good or successful as it “should” be.

Thats’ probably part of the reason LFL is taking baby steps with future films. They know it *should* be more successful, and they don’t want to miss out on whatever their next max potential is.
