Thanks!

Definitely food for thought but I still wouldn't consider this basis to claim one is more popular than the other. What people by in retail isn't a definite indicator of what they'll purchase at cinemas. There's also a lot of factor that can contribute to this.

Spidey is one superhero character that is historically big in Japan. I hope it does well there.

I take it that you're a Batman fan? The Spider-Man trilogy outgrossed the Nolan trilogy and all Batman's movies have grossed less than all the Spider-Man movies combined. Spider-Man is without a doubt the biggest superhero even despite the TASM movies damaging the brand.

If I did I wouldn't have asked for a source.

Can you provide that.

I think making that sort of statement is only self serving. YOU will believe it because you're a spider-man fan. But Batman has had two very successful franchises that have spanned from 1989-2012.

I think there's no way to say who is more popular than the other and we have to temper ourselves here. You're spouting off a lot of very very opinion based statements as hard facts. I get you like Spider-Man I get you liked Homecoming but let's come back to earth and out of Spider heaven.

I love Spider-Man but I also love batman and dark knight trilogy is my all time favorite trilogy

Yeah this.

It's surely between Spider-man and Batman for overall most popular individual superhero nowadays.

Once more Spider-man will be the highest grossing superhero of the year, and we shall have peace... well no but hey my boy is back home and on his way to the top once again. Can't wait for the spidey centric Phase 4 now. Good looking out Fiege. Now off to see it for the first time, so pumped.

Oh hey you're still around lol. Haven't seen any of your pessimitic posts in the DCEU threads lately... Hmm I guess Wonder Woman scared you off lol

If Guardians can pass WW, then Spidey sure as hell can as well.

Except Guardians isn't passing WW. She's already outpacing it at the same point in time...

Anyway Rth from BOT, a known and verified insider, said Spidey is looking at a 37 million Saturday. That means an OW of 115-120. SMH would need a multiplier of about 3.3-3.5 to pass WW at the DOM box office and that ain't happening! A 3.0+ multiplier is very very rare in this genre...

Scared by what, a 800 mil movie? yeah shaking in my boots. Get back to me when DCEU has a billion grosser, let alone a 1.5 billion one.

That comes in November :woot:

If Wonder Woman was ripped to shreds by critics/audiences and made half of what she has currently made you would have been in the DCEU threads non-stop posting your doom and gloom. I know your game :o

Anyway looks like my OW prediction will be pretty close to its actual OW! I think im getting better at this lol

WW won't even make 800 and JL definitely won't make a 1.5. Some of you here need to realize that DCEU is 1/4. They are a critically-panned frnachise that has SOME OF IT'S movies make money. Let me remind you how MOS and BvS seriously underperformed...

So what happens when WW does reach 800 million and JL makes over a billion? Are you going to admit you were wrong?

Anyway this is a Spidey box office thread so if you're interested in seeing just how well Wondy is holding up (both domestic and overseas) then go to the WW box office thread... I'm sure you'll be quite surprised!

Yeah but that's from 2013, in the most recent sales update I can find, which was #'s for 2015, Spider-Man was up to $1.5b, Batman and the Avengers at $1b and Superman at $500m. It says Wonder Woman can sell between $500m-1b this year. Batman and the Avengers had the biggest jump in merchandise sales in those 2 years.

Batman went from $494m to $1b and the Avengers went from $325m to $1b. I'd be interested in seeing #'s for 2016 though since Batman was the leading superhero merchandise seller of 2016 on the internet and BvS was listed as one of the movie's that helped 2016 toy sales improve.

I found the #'s here: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...-s-secret-power-bridging-the-boy-girl-toy-gap

And here: https://intelligence.slice.com/dark-knight-rises-batman-tops-online-superhero-merchandise-sales/

Still with the extreme MCU fan act? It's getting embarrassing for other MCU fans to read.

I thought this was a Spider-Man box office thread, not a dick measuring contest.

Rth from BOT, said Spidey had a 37 million Saturday number. Puts SMH on track for a 115-120 OW depending on how it holds Sunday.

I know. Christ. We have a year full of great superhero flicks from all the major studios and people still have to pick sides.

I thought it was like 125-130 that was the up to date guess?

Deadline July 8, 2017:
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Delivers Franchise’s Biggest Promotional Campaign At $140M+
Anthony D'Alessandro said:
EXCLUSIVE: Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming has racked up more than $140 million in media value in a global promotional campaign that spans 30 brands. That’s the most lucrative ever for a Spider-Man title and on par dollar-wise with the global pushes of Sony’s 007 movies Skyfall and Spectre.

In addition, the value of Homecoming‘s campaign outstrips that of Marvel’s previous summer release Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, which analysts valued around $80M.

...

When it comes to merchandising, we hear that’s where Marvel benefits the most because the studio controls that aspect of Spider-Man while Sony has the feature film license. Spider-Man retails sales per NPD were estimated to be in the $1.3 billion range annually three years ago when Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit theaters, while Avengers generated $1 billion.

Box Office Mojo:
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Production Budget: $175 million

Well, 36.8 million seems to be the Saturday number. A rather muted increase from the true Friday. Much like SM3 did back in '07.

That's true SM3 had 10M Thursday preview, 49.8M true Friday (59.8M opening Friday) and 51.3M Saturday for a 3% increase from true Friday.

SMH has 15.4M Thursday preview, 35.1M true Friday and 36.8M Saturday for a 5% increase from true Friday.

If SMH also decline 22% like SM 3 on Sunday then Sunday number will be 28.7M for a 50.5 + 36.8 + 28.7 = 116M opening weekend.

In order to reach 120M OW Sunday decline must be less than 11.1% (32.7M Sunday). That's quite tough.

Thought this section couldn't get worse but then you get DC and Marvel fanboys going at it.
Glad to see it doing well, feels like just yesterday it was projected at 90 million. Hopefully it does well all around the world.

It being a huge success can only bring good for Sony and Marvel. I'll definitely see it a 3rd time before it's run ends.

You said the next 1.5 billion movie comes this November. JL won't make 1.5 billion and i'm not even sure it's gonna make a billion. Screengrab my comment if you like. JL is nowhere the popularity the Avengers are right now and this is a fact.
