Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

Didn't SS have huge Walmart promotion on opening day? I don't think it's quite comparable with CM.

Anyway with 150-155M almost locked and having more female audience than a normal superhero movie (normal = male-led), I think 400M more likely than not will happen, depending on WoM passing Civil War is good aim. I sucks at guessing international numbers but based on South Korea, China, LA and UK it seems like another 600M or so.
After this opening, the film SHOULD get to $400m even without amazing legs. Of course if the legs did turn out really well then even better! :cwink:

Yes this film is going to give a nice boost to Endgame as will CM herself being in it. If decent it will crush records, and imagine if it’s way better than decent!
Well, no matter how I may feel about a movie, I set my standards insanely low. I've had enough Spider-Man 3's and Men of Steel and BvS's to last me a lifetime.

At least the expectations are gonna be beaten then. :cwink:

At this point in time Captain Marvel is eyeing a $63.5M Friday, including her $20.7M Thursday night haul. That figure is just under Beauty and the Beast‘s first day of $63.77M (which turned around a $174.7M opening, the best ever in March)

I want that damn record! it's gonna be close, but regardless this is an astounding success. Way to go Fiege and Co.

Well, for Marvel, CM’s success bodes ver well for Endgame.
The films International success is just icing on the cake.

Indeed.
The record would be nice, but it really isn't needed at this point..
So happy that the haters didn't win.

Watching American idiots regularly fail at boycotting stuff will never not be entertaining.

Every time they have launched a boycott (Force Awakens, the NFL, Keurig, Nike, Gillette, and now Captain Marvel), they have failed spectacularly. When will they finally accept that they're irrelevant?

I think it's safe to say that the boycott isn't working.

The trolling always seems to have the opposite effect. I remember they tried to do the same thing to Black Panther, and it totally backfired.

This isn't the best Marvel film by any stretch, but it's just a fun playtime in the MCU sandbox and simply builds on Marvel's already massive established success.

Saturday is going to determine if it breaks the record. Mcu movies saturday numbers since the Avengers 2012 have been crazy. I'm still hoping for the March record.

Don't be so sure! This is phase 1 of the boycott! This is the "lulling phase". They are attempting to lull Disney and Marvel into a false sense of security. And look, it's working! Disney's morale has never been higher. Soon, everyone will demand refunds, and the second weekend will feature Brie Larson renouncing the movie to become the leader of an evil feminist nation called Feminasia!
It'll happen...because a bunch of losers wrote a fan fic about it, and they have no concrete evidence or support!
GO TEAM MAN-BOY!!

This film doing well is great for everybody, Shazam is getting good early buzz the more audiences show up an are entertained to CBM's the better it is for the genre as a whole.
The genre has gone from defeated to utterly dominant in a couple of decades and still has serious momentum to push it further. The DC universe could start making serious waves soon too (oh wait it just did :cwink: ), and then we have the prospect of F4 and X-Men in the MCU. The future is very bright!

See ya'll for the Eternals gay character outrage lol, like if Disney was going to put graphic gay sex in a PG-13 cbm :D

2018 was a massive year for the MCU, 2019 will be even bigger.
