Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

Yeah, Indonesia is huge here. Not seen them near the top of many of these lists before. South Korea are consolidating their position as one of the biggest overseas markets outside of China.

Obviously I'm not a female but I would think women would appreciate it's the only female led superhero film where there's no love interest and she doesn't have to exist in the shadow of a man. I appreciated in general as a superhero origin film that there was no love interest.

Because women dislike romance?

Captain Marvel could become the 4th highest opening ever in Mexico.

Top 3:
1. Infinity War
2. Civil War
3. Ultron

Her dominance is real and there's no one that can stop this superHERo film.

Will this be the highest grossing female led action/sci fi film worldwide ever?

If it does, then the MCU will have the top 5 after Endgame (which could also be the new no.1).

Romance in film is dead. I think it's a valid point. I like action movies where there is no romantic subplot going on and I'd think women who are independent would think the same.

What? Crazy Rich Asians and A Star is Born say hello.

I think what @Tony Stark meant is that there could be lots of variety in female-led movies, and having a love interest should not be considered a default, whether it's a male or female protagonist. It isn't likely a deal breaker, but some women like the presence of a love interest like in WW, while others like no love interest like in CM for a change. I don't think film makers should find the formula for the most popular type of movie among women (and I don't even think that exists), and just keep on making that kind of movie. Diversity in protagonists' gender, race and also genre is a good thing for audience.

I don't see that Us movie dethroning this superHERo film at the box office for the #1 spot. I think Captain Marvel would be #1 for three weeks.

Maybe it's beginning to turn around but check the list of romantic comedy films over the last decade. Out of the top 20 romantic comedy film box office wise, only one has come out the last decade. Crazy Rich Asians. Romance in film has been on the decline for a while, but action and comic book films have been rising.

But you were only referring to women right not the general public. Romance movies won't earn the same amount of money compare to blockbuster films simply because romance movies aren't exactly targeted to families, kids, teenage/young adult men and some of those movies are r-18. Also the amount of action and superHERo films that comes out every year increased so much compare to the 80s and 90s. Romance movies aren't completely dead and the success of Crazy Rich Asians and A Star show that. If women dislike romance then that doesn't explain the success of those movies and other movies like Fifty Shades trilogy and those Twilight movies that were released this decade.

Maybe "dead" was a strong word, let's go with decline. Within the genre of "romantic comedy films", which must rely on the strength of the genre itself (so not a musical, or sci-fi) the last decade has produced only one top 20 movie out of the entire history of rom-coms. That's a decline.

But ultimately my point is romance isn't the selling point in movies that it used to be. It's refreshing not to have a romance shoehorned into a film just because.

Marvel has officially NOT got HERpes! Did I do it right? :O
I don't know about that. But I think HEReafter, there's no more question that a Marvel female led Marvel film can be as successful as the male led Marvel films. Anyway, I hope tHERe will be a She Hulk and Spider-Woman movie at some point.
