Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

Amazing growth for the MCU in Indonesia. CM will beat out most of those Phase 1 films combined.
Yep.

Biggest movies in Indonesia:

1. Infinity War
2. Jangkrik Boss! Part 1 (local movie)
3. Fast & Furiuos 8
4. Captain Marvel
5. Dilan 1990 (local movie)

The voice of reason strikes again. I'm not 100% sure either. It doesn't REALLY matter that much. It did really well at the box office; over performed is the word that comes to mind, helped open the doors (hopefully) for other women, and the sequel is an absolute no brainer. The latter two are the most important to me. I've often wondered why we (and I include myself in the "we") get so invested in these milestones. I mean, 398M isn't really any different from 400M and whether it makes more than WW at the DOM box office isn't something we should be emphasizing. They both did really well and we should all be pleased about that.

Maybe we'll get a Hela movie starring Cate. Fin would totally lose it. I'd pay to see what she'd do for an Avatar. LOL.
Agree with all of this. I just care that its successful and it's already done that.

This bodes well for all comic movies. WB is salivating Shazam, imagine the profit margin if it hits 1b and there is a chance. It costs only 90m ish to make and the marketing has been pretty restrained.

If Shazam gets anywhere past 700 million WB is going to be throwing parades @ a 90 million budget.

I'm rooting for Shazam!

Zachary Levi seems like such a humble and genuinely nice guy.

No way I would have expected it to be so high up. I was (pleasantly) surprised to see Indonesian numbers that high in the first place but it makes more sense when it's out of the ordinary for the country.

I understand but I wouldn't put Incredibles 2 on that list......

Captain Marvel is on track to cross the $700M mark at the international box office. It will become the third-highest grossing solo superhero movie overseas (behind Aquaman & Iron Man 3).
That would be a big achievement. We've seen it do far better than expected in some overseas territories and far more than is normal for a solo CBM so it's not too surprising.

Well, FFH is going to blow up like crazy. First post EG MCU flick...yeah. A billion easy, so long as it is decent. Endgame, for what it's worth, will have NO ceiling. It simply needs to stick the landing, and it's a lock for a potential 2 billion worldwide. CM makes it to a billion, that will be great. Even Wonder Woman didn't hit that height!
Yes, certainly potential for FFH to do a fair amount more than Homecoming. It also looks better and larger in scale to me. Endgame could go anywhere if the film really delivers what everyone wants after all this time.

I really hope Shazam does well. Proves to WB that dark and gritty won't continue to work every time... Especially with Snyder at the helm in place of Nolan.

People have referenced that Wonder Woman, Aquaman and now Shazam have followed the MCU tone being more light hearted and dare I say... "fun"? There's no coincidence the first 2 were box office smashes and it looks like they have a third on their hands.

Amazing how there are 10 CBMs that made 1B plus. The genre is only getting stronger, what a time to be alive.

Can't wait to tell my grandkids 50 years from now how I went to every MCU and DCeU movie when they first came out.

The only comic book movie I'm looking forward to more than Shazam is Endgame. That included Captain Marvel as well.

I think it's funny how Aquaman and Shazam both are more light hearted fun films but some of the DCEU fans still complain about Marvel yet praise Aquaman and are excited for Shazam :funny:

If anything, the DC films need to the lighter tone more than the Marvel films.

With Batman being the obvious exception, but Batman used to be seen, and sometimes still is, as more like a Marvel character. Less focused on the powers, more gritty and down-to-earth.

I think that Feige was right not to go overboard in that direction for the MCU, and to allow for a mixture of tones, a lot of humor, and so on.

But the DC films being dark, gritty and joyless was one of the main problems with them prior to Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

I hope Shazam is good and a hit, because DC really needs two wins in a row. It's not like Fox where the movie rights to Batman are going to go to another company eventually.

It's all about balance in films. In a bit of criticism of Marvel, they do tend to over-rely on the comedic aspect sometimes. But their films are rather balanced overall in pacing, tone, and story. I felt like DC just wanted to poop out as many film properties, at first. But I get the feeling now, that they're doing what they should've been doing since Day 1.

Yes, it's a bit early to be 100% confident, but the DC films seem to have identified and addressed the problem.

A lot of the DC characters really need the vibrant colors, lighter tone, sense of hope, and so on. Not so much Batman and related characters, or at least not in the same way, but many of the other characters.

The Marvel films could have had the opposite problem. There was a tendency to see characters like Wolverine and Spider-Man as the only ones that could be hugely popular. Or a gritty revamp like the Ultimates. (It's basically the tendency of the Marvel Netflix shows.)

But Marvel Studios had this vision of being able to build something that is closer to the Silver Age in many respects.

Any good guess where its gonna end roughly ?

Can it beat Aquaman and CW ? What do you think ? (maybe 410 mil US & 750 mil OS ?)

Is it me or beating Iron Man 3's 1214,8 million is out of the question ?

4 billion back to back for MCU incoming!

Btw i dont think Spidey will beat CM but it will get close.

So what's a good hold for a 3rd weekend? 30-40 million? Think US will take the #1 spot? it opens this week I think.
