Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

With the foreign bo, Captain Marvel is probably #10 now.

Well I’m rather sure next year WW will smash 1b too and retake the female solo throne. Though internationally CM for whatever reason seems to be better liked (the character not the movie) for now. At least in most non English speaking worlds where it was no manufactured white male comment drama.

To be honest I think "solo" movie is an antiquated term in the current CBM paradigm. It has become an excuse to diminish the success of MCU movies like the Avengers by categorizing them differently. They are all CBMs, and should be collectively categorized.

Technically its not a solo but Civil War is still a Captain America film with plenty of the Avengers.

It's a solo movie in the sense that it's told primarily through Steve's perspective, but agree it's in a grey area.

Yes thats why i said depends on what you mean by "solo".

Its a Captain America movie in the Captain America trilogy. Thor , Hulk , Fury and SHIELD are missing.

Its not an Avengers film. Technically its a "solo" movie.

From Deadline
Disney’s Captain Marvel takes 5th with $14.2M, -31% in weekend 5, for a running total by end of Sunday of $375.6M.

I was sure it was going to drop -50% this weekend with Shazam opening.

That would be a good hold. One reason is that it's quite a good movie. There's actually a lot to chew on that's not immediately apparent on the surface.

The gaslighting, the false mentor relationship, the whole question of how, precisely, Carol has been deceived.

I might see it again before too long, which I probably wouldn't normally for one of these movies at this point, because some articles and comments have raised issues that I hadn't really considered previously.

I'm still a bit reserved since Deadline can be a "bit" off with their estimates, but even if it drops, I don't think it will go lower than $12M which is still great. It seems Shazam! is eating away all of Dumbo's audience (Variety is reporting a 63% drop)

That’s interesting.
I thought Dumbo might absorb some of Shazam’s family portion of the audience.
Apparently, it is the other way around.

Disney's whole--animated movie conversion to live-action is a big waste of money and time, imo.

Not really, it's interesting to see how the characters would look like in live action for starters and how it differs from the animated film. The main problem is if they aren't good enough.
