The Catwoman/Selina Kyle Casting Thread - Part 2

7-10 years don't have to be the cut off point tho. I mean, Rebecca Ferguson is only two years older and Blunt is 3.
Emily Blunt looks older than Robert Pattinson and generally looks her age. No idea about Ferguson. You need someone fresh-faced, who can play younger, like Pattinson. Oddete Annable for example -- a year older than Pattinson but she still looks very youthful and could easily play younger than her ageodette-annable-14384_original-1180x664.jpg

Alright, so what is the argument here then? it seems more like you're arguing to the merits of it being a possiblity/acceptable as opposed to whether it SHOULD happen

That’s because I am. I’m not sure how that was unclear.

This doesn't negate anything I said about the casting call, but okay. The lead star is cast first and the supporting characters or male/female lead are cast in correspondence with the lead. That's just how it goes.

I don’t understand how it doesn’t. If there are examples of other films where the romantic leads have an age gap between them - and it’s reasonable to assume that those films also had casting calls - doesn’t it follow that The Batman might go a similar route? Not that it will, but that it very easily could?

Frankly I'd be fine with her being black, latina or even Asian this time around. Eartha Kitt paved that way and while Halle kinda ****ed it up, it still has some pavement on it.

Did I say she would be? Or did I argue that it wouldn’t be a problem if she was?
The latter. And If you think it's fine, then that's your prerogative.

This has to be a joke. Do you think you suddenly stop growing as a person once you reach 40?
Sure if you take what I said without the context of why I said it. Of course a 40 year old doesn't stop growing as a person. This is not about the age of Selina/character and more about the fact that Selina Kyle at this point in the story has been Catwoman for a good 10-15 years. That's 15 years of growth and development that has gone on off-screen. Contrast this with a fresh Batman who still has a long journey ahead of him

For someone who spends their time championing a woke ass version of the X-Men, your viewpoint here comes across as surprisingly narrow-minded.
Riiiiight. it's not like there is no difference between X-Men: a franchise built off of being "woke" and the systemic oppression of minorities-- to the casting of Selina Kyle to a young Batman.

Nope, these two topics are exactly the same :o

If nobody else was found I'd probably go with Amanda Seyfried just because she's put in a **** ton of indie work over the years since Mean Girls and she just has that cat look about her. She played Linda Lovelace for ****'s sake.

Now, let's get back to the conversation of "is she hot enough?" and "has she still got the bust like her comic book counter part?"

=P

It's weird because I think Amanda's one of the prettiest actresses who've come up, and I like her as an actress, and I even agree she has a catlike look, but I just don't see Catwoman.

Watch that Netflix movie called Anon. That's what kinda sold me on it.

Amanda should have been the canary, the hotness and the singing experience and ability....

My thought process is most actors and actresses whose names haven't really been bandied around and aren't really known for these roles are the ones that will actually work harder becuase they don't have that support system in place. There are a few chicks in here that have already been fancast in dozens of comic book flicks and they probably know it from social media, lol.

This is very true, the more I think about it. It’s also part of why I first thought of Pattinson for Batman as a dark horse fancast a year ago (and look where we are now!)- we hear names like Armie Hammer, Jon Hamm and the other usuals so often that of course they never land the gig.

It does typically tend to be someone who you wouldn’t immediately think of for the part or is always thrown around in fan-casts online.

I admit being dismissive of Pattison due to Harry Potter and Twilight and was frankly surprised he had so much support. But I know he's done other work aside from just blockbuster teen heartthrob.

Who would be an unconventional pick for Selina aside from Hudgens?

I’m not saying it’ll be an unconventional pick for Selina; it’s more that the sort of names we toss around a bit too often for too long like Eiza Gonzalez, Eva Green, Morena Baccarin or perhaps Ana de Armas (aka the names we’ve all suggested repeatedly over the course of years) typically won’t get the job.

Someone that we suggest or think of more recently and haven’t talked about as often like say Jodie Comer or Vanessa Kirby (or again perhaps Ana de Armas, she kinda feels like she’s been in a middle ground in levels of repeated discussion) probably has a better shot at it.

Sticking with my picks of Emmy Rossum or Nina Dobrev... they're in the proper age range... Pattinson is 33, Rossum is 32, Dobrev is 30.

Reading this article, I unfortunately get the feeling Jodie Comer probably wouldn't be interested in playing Catwoman... Turns out she almost turned down Killing Eve.

Jodie Comer said:
"I was like, 'Oh, f*** no.' Because I always think of someone in a leather catsuit and six-inch heels scaling walls. Also, 'How naked is she going to be?' ...I should have known better, knowing Phoebe was the writer."

Granted, never say never as there is a lot more to Selina than just sexuality and leather, but this does kinda bum me out.

Kirby, de Armas and Rossum are all solid choices. I can see either one of them nabbing the part.

Also. I don't think WB is gonna want to hire someone tied to a TV show. But it's clear she was referencing Catwoman in that quote.

While I wouldn't go so far as to call Comer an unknown—because she's not—I still suspect that the studio will go for a slightly more familiar face.

Yeah, as great as it'd be to see a Latina actress in the role, it's not vital. Selina's heritage has been changed around how many times in the comics, after all? Ultimately I want them to get the right person for the job.

Any of those three would be fantastic choices and Kirby in particular would be a force to be reckoned with onscreen alongside Pattinson's Bruce Wayne (assuming that works out). From what I gather, her work in stage theater has been acclaimed and we've all talked about her in MI: Fallout and The Crown too.

I don't think they'll want someone tied in a TV show mainly because that's a potential nightmare for schedules. Not only for the main shoot but reshoots and so on. It's what happened with Jaimie Alexander.
