Also, casting someone in their late 30s to play early 30s or late 20s is a not specially something preferable because while they may look young-ish now, there's no guarantee they'll look the same by the time they shoot the sequel. Middle age tends to hit people like a ton of bricks.

This is what happened to Garfield in TASM2. He looked young in the first one but by the time they started shooting the sequel and he hit 30, he started showing his age. So much so, in fact -- That they had to rush him out of High-school when the original plan was to have a trilogy of films set in that setting. Marvel was smart to cast an actual teenager to avoid this problem

And that's why it's best not to cast someone older than Pattinson for Selina Kyle. Especially not someone like Blunt who is 37 and looks her age.

Also the age range for Batman was 27-33. They never went over it

No, I think they were just specific because Reeves already had his candidates in mind, and those were their ages. Hollywood never cares about REAL ages, they care about Hollywood ages. That's how it's always been. That's how Sean Connery played Harrison Ford's dad despite not being remotely old enough to be so, that's how Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone played characters the same age in the same class, despite a half-decade age difference, etc. Bruce and Selina don't have to be exactly the same age, they simply have to be believable contemporaries. And there's a like a decade-wide margin of error in the desired age range that could give us that.
With Last Crusade they were clearly being extremely specific in wanting Papa Jones to look like he had Indy at 12, possibly to bring up the young dad aspects to the story. :o

So if we hear there are 2 names a director wants for a role who have the same birthday, it means the director only wanted people born on that day? Maybe only someone born within the hours between their births? :D:

For a trilogy and a potential solo spinoff franchise it's better to cast on the young side because frankly you never know how rapidly or slowly people will age once they hit 38 or 40. Affleck in 2015 looked perfect for Batman but by 2017 he looked really bad for the part. Cast someone 25-33, someone we can have for a solid 10 years.

Also, while Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult were the top choices for the part, it's kinda obvious they did look into more actors at least for a bit, after all, it's standard Hollywood procedure to have backups. Armie Hammer and Aaron Taylor Johnson were in the running. Logan Lerman allegedly auditioned. And we heard countless other names being tossed around for the part and again, not a single of those names was over 34. Every rumor (with the exception of Noah Centineo) had something in common: Late 20s to early 30s. That was the age range. They wanted someone they could have for 10 years.

Sonoya Mizuno could be great. Her career choices remind me a lot of the Pattman's.

Not gonna lie... Sonoya Mizuno could be inspired casting. Part of me still prefers the idea of casting her as Ivy, as I mentioned in a different thread, but she could totally hit a homerun as Selina too. She's got that 'mystique' look about her, as well as serious acting chops and a background in ballet/dancing. All things that could seriously make for a top tier Catwoman on the big screen.

Yup. It was so annoying seeing all those comments about how Holland looked like a baby or a little kid back when he was first cast. It was clearly the smart move casting someone young to play a high-schooler as well as thinking of the future with sequels. It went over a lot of people's heads. Some of the silliest comments I had seen in some time and that's saying something when it comes to the internet. :funny:

I'm ashamed for not even having her on my list, and the reason for that is that most asian actors get no mainstream casting love, so I'd figured a black or latina actress would do, but Sonoya is great casting. Just gotta look at my hnnngh avie for that.

Yeah, I'd say that maybe asian actors need a bit more of representation than latinos or black people, so giving a great asian actress the Catwoman role would be wise...

Yep. I was going through the Batman reboot casting thread and saw someone had Sonoya as Ivy and I went... wait a minute, she'd be a damn great Catwoman! She's got the indie clout of Pattinson, is a great actress, and has the moves with her dancing career.

She's probably my top choice right now to be honest. She checks every single box.

Honestly I'm starting to agree. I'm not completely set on any one name just yet, but Sonoya seems to make a ton of sense, much in the same way that a Vanessa Kirby or Dakota Johnson would for the part... and much in the same way that Pattinson does for Batman.

Matt Reeves doesn't typically cast traditional "big names" in Hollywood for his films, he's all about getting character actors that bring a certain charisma and acting chops to the roles in his films. I mean, arguably his three biggest names in his Planet of the Apes films were Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson and Gary Oldman. All three are critically acclaimed actors that plenty of people recognize, but none of them are necessarily big box office draws from their names alone either.

And reading up on Sonoya Mizuno's career a bit more, she definitely seems to fit the mold that would attract Reeves.

Honestly I'm not sure if she's exactly my favorite just yet, as I like a number of potential candidates for different reasons, but Sonoya is probably the name that would have me the most intrigued if cast as Catwoman.

Same. And as it turns out Sonoya is actually Japanese/British-Argentinian! So I guess that would mean Selina would be biracial in this trilogy if she were to land the part? That'd be rather exciting IMO.

However, as I said recently, if a woman of color is cast for Selina, I hope the talk for a more ethnically diverse cast doesn't end with her. There's a whole city full of fascinating characters to be cast in Reeves' Gotham City, after all.

I love the idea of Gotham City being a melting pot with an ethnically diverse makeup like New York City. It sort of makes

Exactly. If anything, when you think more about it, it's less believable for the majority of the big players in Batman lore to be white at this point if Gotham City is drawing a lot of influence from modern day NYC.

Also, looking at this photo... Sonoya screams Selina Kyle to me.

Cast her now, Matt.

And I get this is the most irrelevant part of fancasting... but honestly? She has an amazing body for the part as well. Very athletic, but sexy. One could understand why Battinson would feel so attracted to her even though she's a burglar.
