I have no accent preferences either. There are things I'd like to see - I want the "Robin Hood" version of her where her crusade is against Gotham's elite and she's sharing with the people in the slums...but that version can still be an immigrant or have non-Gotham origins. I'm not picky.
Isn't that a bit too much like the Nolan version though?

I like Kirby, but she seems like the type of gal who doesn't shave her pits and would make me pluck the one hair from her mole. We would then get in shouting match because we have guest coming and she isn't ready. Granted, 10 min of work and she'd looks divine after that, but I don't know what to make of it.
You make hererosexual life sound like such a colorful misadventure.

Look. I'm aware of the fact that there are europeans that migrate from the countries to the US and are poor, however, the british accent for whatever reason tends to be associated more with high class, sophisticated people, essentially royalty, especially the type that Vanessa Kirby has. And for that very same reason, if you're gonna make her an immigrant and make her have an accent I'd be more accepting of a latinx accent as a poor immigrant in the US that grew up in the worst conditions possible is more likely to be a latinx than british.

Having a Selina that grew up in the slums and has a british accent just feels... wrong. lol It's the same outlook as to what Claire Denis said as to why the characters in High Life speak english and not french because it's more easy to associate americans with space. The same way it's not easy to associate "british attractive immigrant" with "growing up in the slums"

Depends on how it's portrayed, I guess. Seemed like the Nolan version just kind of snuck into parties or something. This one could have an entire false identity with a fake company "funded" by her thievery. Or not. I dunno, like I said, I'm not married to it, but I think it could be a fun way to go, and there are multiple ways she could play it that wouldn't really resemble Anne's version.

A Selina Kyle that can speak various languages/accents when it calls for it aka Killing Eve type.

Yeah to be fair I think they could have explored Hathaway's Catwoman much more if they weren't wasting time with Talia Al Ghul, Daggett, ETC. But that's a topic for another thread.

Both Bruce and Selina are socialites. The former uses his alter ego for a purpose, the latter uses hers for cheap thrills. Bruce takes his double life seriously. Selina's alter ego is all for play. It makes for a fun dichotomy between them. Catwoman always telling him to lighten up and live a little.

God no. That'd imply a high level of education that's just wrong for someone that has the super miserable background growing up in the slums Selina has in the comics. Her smarts are street smarts and charm.

Maybe Reeves will change that but the most interesting portrayals of Selina have been the ones where her background is the complete opposite of Bruce's.

That version that you described is the one shown in the Animated Series and it's fun, but ultimately shallow. You can do much more with the version of the comics in which she's a girl that grew up in the slums without any of the education and opportunities Bruce was able to have, it also makes her perspective of the world more interesting in comparison to Batman's.

All this talk over accents, I mean it's not like accent work is one of the big components of being an actor

I'd expect Reeves to write a character with more depth than a cartoon.

And even with that aside, I like the animated series Selina.

I'm not even against Kirby but keeping her british accent is a horrible idea for this character.

And yes, I'd expect him to write her with more depth.... the kind of depth she has in the Year One, Long Halloween and When In Rome comics for instance, where a big part of her character is how her miserable and poor background makes her have a waay different outlook on the world around her than the one Batman has.

You know the feeling of spitballing ideas and excitement with your peers in real life and someone always going "oh no that's such a terrible idea are you nuts???"

Oh that's right people don't do that in real life

Haha

It's not. You just don't like it because it doesn't align with your preferences.

It's fine to admit that. You're wasting your time trying to convince us we are wrong. It ain't gonna work.

and to be fair if you live in a slum and is a poor person in Gotham you would sound better with a Latino accent....are you even allowed to say that these days? lol.

What about Zoe Kravitz? She was great in Fantastic Beasts 2 (a WB film) and she had the right sort of look there too. WB likes to keep it “in-studio”...

Latinx immigrants have a harder time growing up and having opportunities in America than white european immigrants do. I think that's kind of obvious, no? That also adds an interesting perspective on her character.

Also, if you're living in the UK... why the hell would you migrate to a garbage city like Gotham where even rich people are gunned down in alleyways? lol People migrate from one country to another to have more opportunities. It makes no sense for Selina or her parents to suddenly decide to go live in a city full of organized crime when they're already living on a first world country.
Nah, if she's gonna be an immigrant, she's gotta be an immigrant from a third world country to justify why her family would settle on a dumpster fire like Gotham.
