Justice League The #CavillMVP Superman Movement Thread

https://revengeofthefans.com/2018/0...t-time-youll-get-see-cavills-superman-movies/

First, there was a ton of renewed momentum for a proper sequel to Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. It was fueled by the way both the WB/DC brass and test audiences were reacting to the portrayal of Superman in Justice League. That momentum was going to fast-track a proper solo Superman movie; the studio was speaking to directors; and they were hoping to be able to announce it in January. Then Justice League came out, got a very muted response, and that forced them to cool their jets.

At one point in all this, Matthew Vaughn was speaking to them about directing the sequel, and- as Mark Millar told me on the podcast last month– it was all going to come down to the right offer being placed onto the table.

On top of that, there have also been a few cameo ideas tossed around, with different DCU projects jockeying for a Superman appearance.

With regard to a Superman sequel starring Henry Cavill, I’ve got good news and bad news.

The Good News: It’s still happening.

The Bad News: I’m now being told that we’re going to have to wait until the summer, possibly at San Diego Comic-Con, for the official reveal- which will include the director and the release date. And, with the way their slate is currently configured, we’re unlikely to see this film before 2020.

BUT!!
That doesn’t mean you’ll have to wait that long to see Henry Cavill don the big red cape.

I can exclusively reveal to you that the next time you’ll get to see Cavill’s Superman on the big screen is April 5, 2019.

Why? Because that’s when Shazam! arrives in theaters.

Yes, folks, I’ve been told by a trusted source that Cavill is set to appear in Shazam! This decision comes after a bunch of internal discussions about where to place him next, since a sequel is still a ways off. Dwayne Johnson is adamant about having Cavill appear in his Black Adam film, but- for the time being- that film, I’m told, is far from getting off the ground because of Johnson’s hectic schedule.

Warner Bros. doesn’t want to wait that long, since they’re still aware that the mainstream response to Superman in Justice League was a favorable one. Even the mostly-negative reviews the film garnered took the time to single out that the portrayal of Superman in the film is one of its saving graces.

So rather than wait for Untitled Superman Sequel or Black Adam, they’ve agreed to have him appear in Shazam! to keep him alive in the minds of the general public. Cavill even lightheartedly teased it back in September.

As for what capacity he’ll appear in the film, which is being directed by David Sandberg, that remains- fittingly for Superman- up in the air.

All I’ve been told, story-wise, is that Superman has had an impact on Asher Angel’s Billy Batson. Batson sees the Man of Steel as an inspirational figure in his life, and that seems to feed into how he conducts himself when he eventually transforms into a cape-wearing, square-jawed superhero himself, in the form of Zachary Levi.

This is my own bit of speculation, but how cool would it be if we find out that Batson was one of the boys who shot that cell phone footage at the start of Justice League? In case you need a reminder, that film opens up with two small boys interviewing Superman at the scene of a rescue. With Batson being a Superman fanboy in Shazam! it would be pretty epic to see that scene play out from a different angle in the film.

But unfortunately, all I can do for the time being is speculate. All I know is, Cavill’s Superman is in Shazam! Will it be a cute cameo like that? Will his presence be felt in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way, similar to Captain America’s appearances in Spider-Man: Homecoming? Or will Superman eventually show up to help Batson out in the film’s third act when he inevitably has to deal with whatever nefarious plan Doctor Sivana (Mark Strong) has in store for him?

That part, we’ll have to wait and see about. I, for one, don’t mind having that be a surprise.

For now, fellow Superman fans, take heart in the fact that the wait for another appearance of Cavill as the Man of Steel is only a little over 15 months away. As for that sequel we’re dying for? You’ll just have to keep your eyes skyward this summer.

That always made the most sense. Build Superman's heartfelt relationship's through other films, really hit on that aspect and people will be ready for MoS2 in no time. I can get behind cameo's to warm up his solo adventure

Agreed.

If anything, I would hope that his role in the film would be similar to Iron Man's from "Spider-Man: Homecoming", where he shows up here and there and perhaps helps with a rescue in the middle act but Billy is able to beat the main villain on his own for the third act.

After Kingsman 2, I would go with JA Bayona for a Superman sequel. Snatch his ass up before Disney gets him on some lame SW movie.

MOS 2 - Hope Lives - glimpse 01 - Mercy Grave

EXT OF THE WHITE HOUSE’S CONFERENCE ROOM CORRIDOR

Lex Luthor is strolling along the corridor, leisurely but menacingly. In the background, we see MERCY GRAVE is taking down the 4 security guards in a splendidly martial art movement.

She makes a few somersaults and has caught up behind Lex Luthor.
They walk together like nothing has happened.

They have reached in front of the SECRETARY and the two bodyguards, who are guarding the main door of the conference room; and in awe.

LEX LUTHOR
(Smirk)
Good Morning, Ms. Secretary.

MS. SECRETARY
You are supposed to wait in the guest hall, Mr. Luthor.

LEX LUTHOR
I’m just too impatient to offer my help.

He gives her a big grin.

I've been meaning to address the big elephant in the room.

Nothing personal Sf2 but I don't think this thread is exactly the right place to be posting your proposals/fan fics for what a proper Superman solo film should be like.

Superman in Shazam is a no brainer.

As per requested, please leave a message to support Henry, as he just told Frosty he reads all the superhero sites =D

We want you back dude! Don't forget to sign and spread your own petition!

And sign the contract too, Billy wants a MOS2!

I forgot about this thread. Let’s do it everyone I certainly have and when I tweet I'm tweeting @wbpictures too

I'm a little embarrassed doing this, feels like writing a letter to Santa Claus, but if there's a chance he'll actually read this it seems like it's worth a shot. At the very least it might mean something to other people on the forum.

Superman has been important to me for most of my life. He's been a role model and an inspiration, someone who has affected my words and actions, made me kinder, braver, more patient and more tolerant. Despite being fictional, he has affected my life in a very real way, and I believe I'm a better person because of it.
There have been many different stories through which Superman has affected me, but few have had so great an impact as those in which Henry Cavill played him.
This Superman has all of the moral strength I've come to expect of the character, always placing others above himself and seeking to help people whenever he can and however he can. He is confident and forceful without being aggressive, he never bullies others and is diplomatic, always offering a chance for peace with those who mean him harm.
The way Cavill plays him in the military base in MOS is a perfect example of this. Calm and collected, being very patient, he treats humanity with respect, as equals despite his power. At the same time, he doesn't allow himself to be bullied, he never cows to them, he agrees to work with the army, not for it.
However, when he see's injustice, he refused to stand by, he gets angry when people are harmed or mistreated and he will step in set things right.
Some people have complained that this Superman doesn't talk enough, for me, this is a testament to Cavills skill as an actor. Often in BVS, there are scenes where no dialogue is necessary because everything that might be said is written large by Cavills facial expressions and body language.
We know how Clark feels about the "Must there be a Superman conversation" by the way he reacts when watching the news. Any dialogue where he explains how he's feeling is rendered redundant by Cavills superb acting. He emotes in such a way that we instantly connect with how the character is feeling.

For me, no actor has ever made Superman so human whilst retaining the indomitable ethical core of the character. Henry Cavill brilliantly portrayed Superman in both the good times and the bad, in times of joy and love as well as pain and heartbreak. A wide emotional spectrum all of which struck me as genuine Superman.

There are some things which only an actor can do, things that even the most talented comic book artist cannot replicate on the still page.
The way someone moves, reacts and talks can only be suggested by a comic, but an actor can fully realise. Henry Cavill did this for Superman in a beautiful way and made this character that means so much to me more vivid and relatable in my mind. His benevolent influence over my thoughts, word and actions has grown stronger because of this.

I would be delighted if Henry Cavill played Superman again, and if he does not, I will always be thankful for what he has already given me.

Don’t be embarrassed mate, if you have a chance to maybe even tell someone how much you appreciate them then you should do always do so

The most I can hope for is for his cameo in Shazam is to be like Ironman in Spider-Man Homecoming.

My most fear is that his cameo will be in post credits like Deathstroke in JL.

That will be a waste of paying him if they will just put him after credits.

Well Mr Cavill, seems to me that you like to read this board.:yay:

I always supported you in your role as MOS's Superman. Always have right from the very beginning when your casting was announced. As an oldfellow who have seen every iterations of Superman since the '70s, I can confidently say that you're the best depiction of the character from the comics that I used to read.

According to Mario, he's dropping a big report on what's going on with Cavill and WB, his Shazam! Cameo and the inside scoop on where things are heading. He said it's nothing Earth shattering, but it's something.

Most of the things he has written in that report were already discussed and speculated here, so it's nothing new.

He never said they would be, he was just clarifying what we know and adding a more positive spin on things.

A shazam cameo makes sense - how else a better way to show his heart and human side then when he interacts which a teenager! Bring it on.

There's still a legitimate chance to fix things a true MoS sequel couldn't get to (the consequence's of killing) with the Shazam! crossover/mentor role. What child wouldn't want that type of power? Thing is, a child wouldn't know what to do with it. Superman in that type of mentor role can give a nice moment/speech about the consequence's of such power and how it could effect not only the individual and loved ones but the world itself. Superman knows these things because he lived them and there's no better teacher than experience and wise words (let alone death). Plus, Billy looks up to Clark and respects him, so he'll listen. Having Clark explain these things will let us into his brain more and how he sympathizes with his past that ultimately led to becoming the Superman we all want to see. Having those tender and real moments also hones in on the relatable aspect of Superman.

I had an idea like Kal-El shows up and teaches Billy during a real battle, to do everything he can to find a way to save everyone, be better than him, he can live without blood on his hands etc...using Kal-El's experience to help Billy avoid controversies...

and I got lectured soon after :oldrazz:

I've come up with this idea how Billy and Clark end up meeting that would make sense, atleast to the little information we might already know. I've thought of other ways but I always come back to this one:

----------

From the set photos, we see Shazam! in the mall during Christmas time. This could be the very first appearance of Billy in action. I see him chasing down villains but things are getting giddily out of control. Things are getting smashed and falling on top each other. His powers are going hey-wire, but he's cheesing and basking in the thrill. Wreckage everywhere. The bad dude gets away.

-This leads to news camera's and the media to the scene. Hundreds of camera's surround Billy just blurting out questions like "Who are you?" Are you from Krypton?" "Did Superman send you" "Are you another threat?" "What's your name?" "Where you from?"

-Action news has hit the Daily Planet. People are surrounding the television screen. Major chatter ensue's. Clark peeks out from behind his desk, fixates on the situation as he locks eyes with Lois at her desk across from his. She tells him to go and she'll cover for him and catch up later.

-Billy is in the middle of all the flashing camera's and his sense's are going heywire. He's getting overwhelmed and clinch's his eyes really, really tight when a child is bashful or nervous.

-Clark arrives and makes himself present in a sea of media mongols as he cautiously uses his x-ray vision to study Billy's organs.

-Billy is getting overwhelmed and sticks his fingers in his ears. We hear a reporter: "Say something! as Billy panics and nervously blurts out:

"Hope is like your car keys. They're easy to lose, but if you dig around, they're usually close by."

-Reporters look around with confused looks on their face. Billy stands there awkwardly, gives a goofy wave and takes off running.

-Clark stares at the ground as he's flashing back to the video camera footage in Justice League. "You know me as Superman. What is your name?"

-Clark breaks his thoughts and looks up. He steps away, pulls out his phone and calls Lois. "Lois, everything is fine. I got it. It's Billy."

"Who?"

"Little Billy Batson.."

------------------

This eventually sets up Superman seeking out and visiting young Billy Batson to "finish their interview.." where he finds out more and gives Billy advice, which concludes his cameo.

That is all the fan fic for today lol.
