The Dark Knight The Composite Christopher Nolan Interview Thread

It's time to get off topic: Could someone give me a movie where "the detective stuff" helped move along the story.

You mean like detective movies?

China Town or L.A. Confidential didn't do it for you?

I want the same amount of flashbacks, let the viewers know that he's still obsessed over his parents death, plus the admiration that comes across for his father in those flashbacks is a nice element to keep running throughout the series.......................also did he mean fat as in fat or fat as in PHAT
"Thats one PHAT story!!"

I hope its less than Begins, Begins tells how he began, its a backstory mixed with his current life. TDK should, for the most part, be all current, maybe some flashbacks that show important influences but not many. thats what Im hoping for.

Agreed. I'd like to see how other narratives inform the plot.

That would be good BUT IMO I think it would have to be used carefully. In Batman Forever I thought one of the main problems was how much they used the flashabacks to his parents death, to the point where he seemed more whiny then actually tortured or dealing with any of his issues.

I concur. I really can't wait to see Nolan explore plenty of Batman's detective skill on this one. And I'm sure we won't see many flashbacks. Probably just a little bit here & there. Like in Batman Forever.

Well the quote says no less than Begins, although they might not be flashbacks. Probably be some time games at the start for the robbery, we know Batman visits the crime scene at night as well

The prologue probably takes place sometime in BEGINS, with The Joker and the bank robbery that Gordon was referring to at the end of BEGINS. I'm sure the story then leaps forward to present time and takes place from there.

He said "no less than Batman Begins," so it will probably be about the same. I don't want the film told in non-linear order, please no. But the same amount of flashbacks as used in Begins would be fine. But personally, I don't think the flashbacks will be for Bruce. I think they will be used for Harvey Dent, ala Long Halloween. ;)

OOoo good call.

So far as playing around with chronology goes, the only thing I can imagine fitting into "The Dark Knight", would be the "Jackie Brown" type of non-linearity, where a scene is repeated from another character's perspective to show the scene in a surprising new light.

^ good idea. that might be nice

I don't how flashbacks could be used to support Dent. What's is so important about Dents past that we cannot see in his present day character? It would also seem slightly distracting, to delve into the past of the DA or all people. Really, the only character who warrants flashbacks here is the Joker. and maybe Batman.

I highly doubt this.

I watched BB last night, I'm so hyped about it give me damn movie....

I really can see this happening in The Dark Knight. It could be very interesting to see a same thing from different perspectives, the hospital's parking explosion (Joker, Batman, Dent, Gordon, etc). I really like this idea.

FOR “DARK KNIGHT” WILL YOU BE USING ANY OF THE FRAGMENTED STORYTELLING YOU USED ON “MEMENTO”?

No less than in “Batman Begins.” The challenge for us here, and this is something I spoke to David [Goyer] and Jonah [Nolan] a lot about, was more that there were lots of characters and more of an epic scope to this film. The storytelling is very much conventional drama. The challenge was in juggling a fat story.

I'm sensing flashback sequence. What do u think?

If that's true, than it's insane!!! BB alone definitly had its share of epic feel to it! There's no doubt though that TDK will have bigger and better action than the first! That's for sure;)

Very interesting. The IGN guy said that the first thing he noticed about the Joker in TDK is the "way he walks," and that it's "not quite a limp," but...? And he has no words for it. He just says it's "off." Joker must have some weird way of walking...now I'm even more curious.

Also, Nolan kind of sidesteps the whole "makeup" issue. He states that the story arc really is about Dent, and not Joker, who is an "absolute." Not sure if that will add fuel to the fire or not, regarding all the possible twists of "permawhite."

And he says Heat was an influence! Jeeze, this film needs to come out now.

might be referring to duality.
