Endgame The Critics/Rotten Tomatoes thread

What will be the final RT score?

It won't get there, but it will definitely be in the top tier of superhero movies at this rate.
No doubt about that. I’m expecting Endgame to replace The Avengers and Iron Man in my top tier MCU list. IW was great but didn’t do that for me.

:chd:
Yes!
I'm rooting for this movie! I think that this movie will be the biggest movie of the year.
What a great 10 years run, well deserved. :applaud

Disclaimer, unfortunately I think I won't watch it for a while, because I'm broke and still not watching all of MCU movies yet.
But this makes me so happy.
I hope that fans enjoy it immensely too. :D

After their last two movies and the collective rating for Infinity War I expected another 80s score, but looks like this is shaping up to be the same thing for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows with part 1 not being up to the expected bar with aggregate score, and part 2 exceeding expectations.

I am not has big into the mcu has a lot of people are. To me there are 9 mcu movies that are ok/bad but I think the mcu has been getting better in the last like 5 years or so and I am expecting this to be great. I really only look at reviews to see like if I am going to agree with them or not. I dont trust reviews has there are to many movies I think are good/great with bad reviews and the opitist to.

Deathly Hallows 1 and 2 are garbage disappointments compared to this.

What Didn’t Work:

As much as Avengers: Endgame is enjoyable, it’s not flawless. First of all, the plan that the Avengers unfold will require charts and graphs to understand. After the movie, we all sat in the audience trying to understand what had just unfolded and what the implications were for the story going forward. Maybe that’s part of the fun, but it does seem to create new plot holes.

In a cast this big, some characters are inevitably shortchanged. One of them is Captain Marvel which is disappointing considering her recent successful film. She’s largely not present in the movie and when she eventually shows up, she’s so overpowered that her presence becomes anti-climactic. And her explanation for not being present in the previous events in the film is deeply dissatisfying.

While my next point isn’t necessarily a problem for me, it was a problem for my kids. Avengers: Endgame is pretty light on action for the first half to three quarters of the film. The early part of the story is a character drama dealing with loss, depression, and mourning. While those are interesting for adults, it tends to bore kids who are there to see Hulk smash. And with a 3 hour running time, that’s a lot of time to see your heroes mope before heading into action. This tone is apparent in the end credits music as it features a light, airy music rather than the big, bombastic score you might expect from a summer superhero film. While on the topic of kids, as a parent I was a little surprised by the amount of language in the film. Profanities come from young children and even Captain America despite his admonition of “language” in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Considering this is a Disney film that a lot of kids will be watching and imitating, I was a little surprised.

One final note – there was no end scene at the press screening I attended. While they could potentially add one later, I’ve been told the version we saw was the final theatrical version. So a lot of fans may be disappointed. But there is a Stan Lee cameo, so that should help.

My criticisms:

- Some characters are shortchanged. One in particular is obvious Russos didn't give a fig about.
- Some characters the Russos and the writers weren't sure where to put them and such.
- There's a lot of weird confusing ideas due to some of the paths it goes down. Not like insane confusing, but you can't think too hard.

They don't ruin the movie, but it's kind of like "eh, it is what it is."

What are you thoughts on my boy Thor in the film?

Who is the character the Russos don't care about? Can you put it in spoiler tags?

I hope Carol Danvers isn't one of those, cause I hoped they'd do a more pleasant job with her than her solo movie did.

Though no film in the history of cinema is beyond and above criticism, it seems fans are even more critical and harsher on this than critics. Good for a change.

That's great actually, and it seems to be not on TLJ level.
Yesterday I heard some of commotion from fans who read spoilers and I was both surprised and worried.

It's not like their criticism are unwarranted though, I'm aware that some who didn't like IW leaks also had problems with the actual movie. But it's inevitable, fans are invested for years and a culmination tends to not please everybody (well, normal movie doesn't too, anyway). Just let's watch its execution first.

So far I think its RT score will hold up, at 90s percentages.

I absolutely concede that there can be honest negative reviews, and there will be, of course.
That said, the ones currently up on RT are ludicrous, pure Armond White pretentiousness and contrarian for the sake of it (and/or traffic).
Before calling me a fanboy, watch the movie and THEN read them, you'll see.

I point to the not so positive reviews of some users here as proof of honest criticism, while mostly I do not agree with them, they at least are genuine.

In recent years, I try to not get too caught up in other people's opinions. Everyone's entitled to like what they like and enjoy different things.

I've tried but I can never get my dad to like or enjoy these films. He prefers dark gritty thrillers.

When the first Spider-Man came out, I would get upset when other people didn't like it, LOL.

Oh, I am not upset, just a bit irked that a very few people paid to review movies are being so untrustworthy.

I read their reviews for a professional counterpoint to my takeaway, out of curiosity: there was nothing there.

Same with me and Thor 1 & Avengers 1, I used to full on rage when people talked badly about the film.

Now I just debate and enjoy discussions whether I agree or not without any emotional ties.
