The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Looks like Third Reboot's a charm!!! These glowing reviews are making it hard for me to focus on work. I knew the reviews would be mostly positive, but to see SOOO much of the modern audience (and naysayers) not just liking the movie but LOVING what they saw....it feels like a full circle moment for all of us who've been posting here since Superman Returns. WE MADE IT Y'ALL!!! :supes:

Just think about some of the best comic book movies that general audience and fandom love that have a score less than 90%

Don't weigh too much on the rotten tomatoes score. Go into the movie with your own expectations.
That’s the thing… I always do. I just hope people out there don’t place all that emphasis on a mostly meaningless score of what is a largely flawed system

I don't know when I'll get around to seeing the film , but I'll see it eventually.

This time more than any other, is for the children of today to have their Superman film , which, if it connects with them , it will be their Superman film.

David Zaslav and Ryan Coogler already gave me the ultimate gift in the film Sinners, which has spoken me personally and emotionally , on so many levels, that I'm still thinking about it to this day.

So, a new good Superman film is fine for me, but Warner Brothers already gave me a great gift in Sinners.

Sinners was fantastic...one of the best movies I have seen in years. But I need a Superman film Superman has been my favorite since I was a kid watching reruns of Superfriends and the Fleischer cartoons...or in my Superman PJs (with cape!) watching Superman II.

Sinners literally spoke to me due to my own family history and lineage going back to Mississippi, and to loving and performing the blues .

Sammie is very much what I was as a teenager and 20 something , with a guitar in his hand and playing blues and r and b music.

So, the film really does hit him on a deeper level than just being a good film.

As for Superman , I already had my ultimate Superman films with Superman 1 and 2 , and for Christopher Reeve is Superman.

I watched , and liked , all the other versions from the serials to George Reeves, Lois And Clark, Smallville, etc , but , for me, it's always been the first two films I saw as a child .

That formed my perception of who and what Superman is.

I consider the new film for the kids of today really, not so much for someone like me whose vision of Superman is baked in an tied to Christopher Reeves version.

So, I'll see the new film , but I can wait .

The film will start in now less than 2 hours at the theater, 10 min from my place... but without me.
Like said, I was planning to wait several weeks, as I usually do for blockbusters like this, but my hype is really growing, so I might... no, I think I will finally break my rule and go tomorrow or Thursday.

To my European counterparts attending an avant-premiere tonight, have a blast! 🔥

Seeing it tonight and the hype has been setting in for the past 24 hours or so and the positive reactions so far are only helping!

I know I'm not on here much anymore, but it's still been a fun ride with all of you. I remember a good majority of us rooting for David and Rachel even before the casting process officially began and the day we got the news was just great.

Hope everyone enjoys the movie this weekend (or next or whenever you all get around to seeing it)

Fan fact. I live very near Memphis. My wife is from tupelo. Her grandmother and Elvis's mother were first cousins.

As for Superman, I picked up my first superman comic when I was 4 at st jude in Memphis.

My parents would bring my sister for treatments for her leukemia.
They had nurses they would watch the family member's kids while their siblings would get treatments.

A Nurse brought me a stack of comics.
I picked Superman. The rest was history.

My favorite CBM (by far) that Gunn has made is his lowest-rated one on RT (GotG Vol. 3), so I know the critics and I aren't totally aligned on his stuff...BUT we do agree they're all generally well-made films/shows, so if this gets an actual bad score on RT it will certainly be cause for concern on my end. But a "good, just not as good as some of his others" score will bode perfectly well for me based on our Gunn track record lol.

Understand your point, but the rotten tomatoes score system is already flawed. A movie can be alright, and still get a fresh tomatoe. A higher Rotten Tomatoes score does not mean a better film.

There is not scale for the fresh rating.

I think right now, what seems to becoming more obvious at as the hours are moving along is that this film will at the very least be better received than MOS and BVS. That in itself is a win for what the Gunn and DC Studio is attempting to set up for the future.

I’ll be honest, all the guardians movies were enjoyable and very emotional, but I never quite made a connection with those characters like I have with Superman, like it’s not even close.

Which leads me to believe that I’m going to be very much hit in the feels by the time this movie is over

I mean, yeah, there's a reason I mostly post only in the Supes threads 😅 That's where my obsessive fan heart lies!

Watching this tonight so I’m going offline for the RT score reveal. I want to form my own, unbiased opinion on the movie before seeing what critics think. See you on the other side!

:legacy:
Planning on doing the same! Enjoy King

That's the irony of it. Just like when people complain about modern movies being woke. Not like the ones they grew up with. Not like Terminator 2.

Heck, if the Justice League cartoon had came out in more recent times, they'd be complaining about it being "woke" for using John Stewart and Hawkgirl instead of Hal Jordan and Aquaman.

For those wondering it is now at 88% with 96 reviews. I skimmed a couple blurbs and it seems the themes are striking a cord.

edit: Daily Beasts review hit. 86% with 98 reviews ;)
