The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

He is having THE TIME OF HIS LIFE in this role. I need him to play it for many years to come.
I'm hoping he is the MAIN villain and the focus of evil in the DCU moving forward.
The one who is most responsible for causing other more powerful, but not as sinister, villains to appear, ie, brainiac, mongul, etc.
I think he will be, and from what I'm hearing, he steals the show.
So I won't be surprised if we now get a Lex solo film or a limited series on his origins, pre Superman.

David was so good as Superman that if Gunn decided to do the death of Superman for his next movie. It would actually work.

If anyone is looking for an incredibly insightful review, particularly regarding the flow and world the movie is portraying, I highly recommend Robert Meyer Burnett's review. It makes perfect sense with people who said it took them a minute to settle in with the tone of the film.

Spoiler free Superman talk starts around the 23 minute mark.

I've had a look at the main cinema site here, and out of 28 press reviews listed, the film scores 3.2/5, and 3.3/5 for the audience, out of 328 votes (but it's only the day of release, so that score doesn't mean much yet).

I wanted to compare the difference in perception with US critics, and it's interesting. If the satirical aspect is perceived as too caricatural to be truly interesting, it's the whole idealistic and heroic (some would say "poetic" and, even "romantic") aspect that is enshrined.
There's also talk about a blockbuster that “smells of the '80s", not in a gimmick sense but in its way of aiming at pure spectacle, without cynicism and with an assumed kitschness, in stark contrast to the rest of today's production.

Overall, it's great! Even if the tone doesn't talk to everybody (like I suspected in an earlier post), the film is still globally saw at a solid and singular effort.
An interesting quote : "Gunn took the job seriously without taking himself too seriously."

Just saw Jeremy Jahns didn't like it and he's usually easy to please. :(

Also the usual suspects didn't like it like Tyrone, but we all knew that.

I saw his video but I've not watched it yet just in case he even slightly spoils something for me although he's usually pretty good at doing spoiler free reviews & then one at a later date talking about spoilers/plot points.

He's one of the only movie critics I'd actually listen to/watch if I'm on the fence about paying to see a film as more often than not his tick boxes for what's an enjoyable/cohesive film tend to align with my own.

Had a look at Jeremy's RT track record and it's all over the place.

Gave things like Quantumania and The Eternals fresh. Gave GOTG 3 & Barbie rotten. Don't feel bothered by his opinion.

Yeah... we are in the sacred timeline. Protect it at all costs.
If you're a Superman fan...

Watched it last night. I enjoyed it, but I kinda expected more.. I don't know, I liked the characters and want to see them in more stories and adventures, I just didn't LOOOOVE this story.

Anyways, it's a good start for the DCU. I'm going to watch the movie again this saturday, maybe I'll enjoy it more then.

Hoult just made up for the Jesse Esenburg/Spacey/Cryer mistakes that mired the last 20 years of live action Superman shows. I think Lex will help the government create the Authority in a future DC film. He seemed to have lots of respect for the Engineer. Superman, Lex, and Lois were just a Chef kiss from the casting department. Can’t say enough about those 3 leads.

The key for me and for the DCU is David can lead this thing. He is a star in the making.

Anyone else whose seen it, did you get a bit of a live action Scooby Doo vibe from this? And I mean that in a good way, because I love those movies lol

And they were written by Gunn himself

Dan Murell's review really took me by surprise, I was sure he would love it, and he's one of the most level headed and thoughtful YT critics out there. And he compared this to Snyder's Superman in several aspects. I have to really sit with that.

I think what we may see in the upcoming days are people who chaffe against the really comic booky/sci- fi concepts that Gunn just throws us into with no explanation and you either are along for the ride or you're not. Audiences have become so accustomed to CBMs hand holding them and easing them into big bombastic ideas whereas Gunn is taking the approach of "this is a comic book movie, i'm crafting it like one." And for me thats a huge positive but others may not like that.

I’ve disagreed with several of Dan Murrel’s movie opinions, so it’s whatever.

So IMAX aside, I've never tried Screen X, but did try 4DX for Birds of Prey and enjoyed it enough. Does anyone recommend Screen X or 4D Max for Superman, is they have seen it?

Kinda! Scooby Doo winks at the audience a lot, I'd say. On the other hand Superman is really unapologetic about its comic-bookiness; there's less self-irony.

I gave it a 7.5 initially, but I think I was just so taken back that we finally got a movie that really embraces the wacky nature of silver age comic books…

I’m seeing it again on Thursday in NYC, and I feel like I’ve read other reviews where people have given it lower scores that are still sitting with it
