The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

may sound like a silly question, but is Kansas specifically named/mentioned in the movie?

One thing I did appreciate about MOS was how there were little nods to Kansas or Kansas-related things. Like Clark wearing a KU Jayhawks or Royals shirt. Pa Kent mentioning K-State. little things like that.

are there similar Kansas nods or mentions in this film? just curious lol

None that I recall, other than physically being there. Most of the sports team stuff was Metropolis.

I saw two semi-young adults going into my IMAX screening of Superman with Zack Snyder Justice League t-shirts.

...I've never wanted to bully people more in my whole f**kin life.

probably the same type of people who wear maga hats when going into a minority or lgbtq owned bar.

:cold:
so edgy and brave of them :o

"Let's go give Gunn's Superman our money BUT we'll be wearing Snyder shirts... That'll show 'em."

Admittedly I don’t follow cinema score closely, but wouldn’t this generally indicate positive WOM?
For big movies like this, you would expect a a very high score with opening day being filled with fanboys. The scale is very broken. A B is like death. A- can go either way.

So interpreting CinemaScores comes down to knowing how the different genres usually go. Like a C or even a D wouldn't be a problem for a horror flick because those are designed to upset folks and sometimes it's the really upsetting ones that generate the most buzz. For family flicks and CBM's, they are aiming to be 4-quadrant crowdpleasers so ideally, so if you compare their scores to other CBM's the ones that become the megahits are the ones that score an "A" or "A+." Because that means it pleased the crowd. "A-" for a CBM just means, "most people dug it, but it has detractors." A movie CAN still perform well with that score (see The Batman), but it can also totally die a quick death (see Thunderbolts or MoS). An "A-" could really go either way, leg-wise.

A- is fine, especially with all the other metrics we've seen. FC just being a worry wart. :hehe:

As one of the biggest skepticists of this film when the 1st trailer dropped (mainly for the visuals), I saw it yesterday and thought it was great.

Full of heart, some great action, Gunn's signature style for weird tentacle creatures and Corenswet truly embodies the character. His chemistry with Brosnahan was insane. Some great humour too and a very light tone (which was needed after the overly serious take of Snyder prior to this).

Hoult was an amazing, unhinged Luthor and I loved every second of his performance.

As for the visuals, it still has those weird fish eye lens shots that simply don't work, but fortunately the majority of them were already shown in the trailers.

That aside, great and sincere Superman film and I am happy DC is back. Gunn did it again.

8/10

What is going on with the domestic box office. Only two movies made over $100 million so far this year on opening weekend. No movie has made a billion that came from America. Movies like F1 and Sinners are hits even though neither made $400 million at the world wide box office. Sinners budget was high for a horror film and F1’s budget appears to be bigger than Superman. Please someone explain what are the suits really looking for and what really is box office success nowadays.

I see thanks. Do they at least acknowledge that Smallville is in Kansas or that Clark grew up in Kansas? Like actually say the name Kansas? I know it's silly to get nitpicky about this lol. But I take great pride that Superman is "from" Kansas haha.
