The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

It's literally like picking up a issue of a superman comic that has a beginning and an end, with the really most outlandish stuff thrown in it, ie. Toyman, or bizarro, come to mind.
Don't go in thinking it's S:TM 2.0, because it's not.
It completly goes all sci-fi.

There will be people opposed to this movie because it is so comic booky. What I mean by that is that both the Salkind movies and Snyder approached Superman from a place of "What If Superman existed in our world?" For Donner and the Salkinds, though they got sillier over time, they put Superman into a Metropolis that was essentially New York and made a world that looked and felt like our own and plugged Superman in. Snyder and co focused on Superman as a first contact story and how that would change our world, and then they added DC stuff on top of it as they decided to make that into a shared universe.

James Gunn does none of that. He makes no attempt to apply realism. It's hardcore comic book fantasy. Which we have gotten in cartoons and shows and such, but never cinematically. There are people that will be taken a back by that, but I love that vision personally. It makes Gunn's vision of Superman stand out. It's also something that's far different to what the MCU offered, cause the MCU has gotten to high sci-fi recently. But they did it across multiple phases. We started with Iron Man armor, then gamma monster, then alien gods, then the frozen WWII guy and now we are at the point where the universe is super comic booky. James Gunn does it here in 1 movie and is unashamed of it.

James Gunn took a big swing here, and I hope this DC succeeds.

The more I think about it, the more impressed I am that Gunn managed to make Superman cool, precisely because he's NOT cool. We have a Superman with his red trunks back on, running around saying 'Golly' and 'Good gosh', drinking hot cocoa and saving squirrels... and somehow, it's not embarrasing or cringe to the majority of the General audience.

Like... I think that deserves a beat of appreciation. He's pulled off something most film makers would have been too afraid to even try.

Corenswet sells it. It's a great written/acted version of Superman.

I see thanks. Do they at least acknowledge that Smallville is in Kansas or that Clark grew up in Kansas? Like actually say the name Kansas? I know it's silly to get nitpicky about this lol. But I take great pride that Superman is "from" Kansas haha.
No...but if you pay attention you can see that Metropolis is in Delaware which i geeked out about!

I read on social media that this movie has a pro-Palestine message? It's true? That's reason enough for me to see it and support it with my money

I forgot the countries name, but there is a conflict that Superman stopped before movie began that is a poor and small nation on valuable resources a more militaristic neighbor ruled by a dictator wants to invade. It comes back in the plot, but it's vague enough where you can probably apply a lot of different world events to it. Given when Gunn likely was writing the movie, I would venture to guess Russia/Ukraine was a huge inspiration for it. But I can see where Palestinian support can be read into it

So my two go to YT ‘’critics’’ posted their reviews.

one of them completely was brutal with this. She did love the og Superman movie. She did like the actors and wanted more Lois etc. Tis was kinda hilarious to me see her annoyed more and more with this. Lawd.

The other one has always been more chill about flicks, but if he hates something he hates it. . He now reviews movies with his wife. She liked it a lot and so did he. Called it the best cb flick he has seen since Infinity War. Issues with the third act and all.

Overall not bad.

Was the first critic,Deep Focus Lens? She was very respectful of the first film.
But as far as Superman (2025) was concerned, outside of her praise of the cast, she was, BRUTAL!

It feels like a mashup. The veneer of Russa/Ukraine, with the meat of Israel/Palestine.

Rolling up on civilians on the border with your heavily armored tanks is very Israel. As is them being allies with the US. Very pre-Oct. 7

Yup! That’s my girl. Love her. Most nerds hate her, but no mainstream YT critic can come close to her eloquence and film knowledge.

The other one was mancarryingthing, but he reviews it on his second channel with his wife, she is funny. They both really liked it.

Just got back from seeing it. I may write up a more in-depth review in the review threads. But overall, I'll just say this.

My wish finally came true! We finally got Superman in a movie that was not afraid to feel like a COMIC BOOK movie!

And we finally got a Superman who felt like.......Superman! So refreshing to finally see this.

I hope this movie does well at the Box Office and with the overall audience reception. Because I want to see this new DCU continue with other characters. And of course more of this Superman and cast in an actual, proper Superman sequel.

And I want this movie to be successful to shut up all the f****** naysayers who seem to **** on everything about this movie and have been since it was first announced.

Be a hit and prove those people wrong.

Superman! Superman! Superman!

P.S.

I also want to see more of my blonde goddess too. :)
