The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

I’ve been keeping up with this film. I’ve watched the trailers, read some reviews, and saw some spoilers. Some of my initial concerns were mainly the bad cgi, the film being too busy and James Gunn’s sense of comedy (specifically for a Superman film). Those elements seem to be confirmed for me.

From what I’ve seen so far, I still haven’t gained enough interest to see it in theatres. I’m not a fan of the extreme views either. This film doesn’t look like the best cbm film, nor does it look as bad as some people are claiming it to be. There are things I like and things that I don’t.

This just seems like a popcorn flick like I’ve said once before. It sort of reminds me of Hulk (2003). It’s sort of good, but not great. Definitely doesn’t deserve the hate it gets. I’ll watch it at some point eventually.

I believe that once the excitement plays down, it’s going to have a significant drop in views. That’s because it seems like there are just as many people convincing themselves that they love it, as there are people hate bombing it. Also, because it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea.

So my two go to YT ‘’critics’’ posted their reviews.

one of them completely was brutal with this. She did love the og Superman movie. She did like the actors and wanted more Lois etc. Tis was kinda hilarious to me see her annoyed more and more with this. Lawd.

The other one has always been more chill about flicks, but if he hates something he hates it. . He now reviews movies with his wife. She liked it a lot and so did he. Called it the best cb flick he has seen since Infinity War. Issues with the third act and all

Overall not bad.

Interesting tidbit on the third act complaint. Personally, I feel Superman's third act may be one of the strongest in any CBM of recent times. It's a whirlwind that plays out in the most entertaining of ways. Most CBM's fall apart in its third act but this one here, the glue holds nicely.

I quite like the third act, but also don't find it all that well put together. You can tell something was cut as things are setup and not really touched on, while some sequences feel long, like they were meant to be interrupted by something else, before cutting back.

Superman: The HBO Max Edition. :o

I wouldn't have minded this movie being like 10 minutes longer.
Completely agree. A few story beats could have used some extra time. I really liked the movie, but an effective 10 extra minutes would have elevated a 9/10 to a 10/10 for me. Whether it’s for Metamorpho, more focus on the fallout of Metropolis/the World & Superman, some extra Daily Planet time, etc.

yes, it could have benefited from an extra 15-20 minutes.

My only real complaint was that the pacing was a little too fast-paced going from one thing to another. And thus it could have taken more time to set things up or develop characters more.

I felt that way throughout the entire film, to be honest. By the time I got to the end game, I was settled in, so it wasn't a deal breaker. Gunn definitely has a ton cut on the editing room floor. The movie has plenty of flaws as such, but compared to some other CBM's approaching that third act, I think he sticks the landing. If he can tighten his editing up and works on the pacing while keeping the threads in tact, the DCU will only strengthen.

What would you list as your top 5 third acts post-2019?

I heard Cat Grant's wig is even more hideous in theaters. :o

That's honestly a great question, one that has me stumped since I've been kind of lukewarm with all CBM's with Marvel and the Hamada era of DC. The turbulence we've been on the last couple of years has left me "meh" so to speak, so Superman definitely rejuvenated and perked me back up. I am also bias with the character, so that may help with my overall views of how everything went since Superman is fresh. If I had to pick two that were solid, would be The Batman and ZSJL off the top of my head without thinking about it givin' most of the past few years have all ran together and is a blur.

I will say. When the new DC logo showed up with the classic Williams theme playing at the start of the movie. That brought a big smile to my face. Just something about that hearing those classic notes. :)

Rumor: Zaslav to force Reeves Batman into Superman sequel if film underperforms.

Second time's the charm. :o
