I’ll admit this is conjecture. The point is it’s open ended, and not definitive like what happened in MOS.But he doesn’t know that
You could make that argument if he had shown any affinity for people outside his friends in Smallville. He spent most of the film not trusting people and honestly sort of looking down on them. Even going public he didn't seem to really trust them. Going from that to putting people in harm's way doesn't look like he is in "fight or flight" it just looks like he is going to beat the guy up and damned the consequences. That is absolutely how the GA looked at it...I wouldn't say he didn't care. He didn't just let everyone and anyone die. He was in literal fight or flight mode
We don't know he is dead (he isn't) and Batman let Ras die and people seemed fine with that.He does however send Ultraman into a black hole seemingly killing them all the same & then crack a joke though.

That is part of the problem...at no point in MOS prior to any of the destruction do you think that he wants to protect anyone except himself and his loved ones so it is hard to believe he is actually doing anything to protect them from Zod and Company. Its basic "save the cat" film making...show the hero doing good things and having strong relationships and when he does heroic things the audience will see him as the hero and forgive some sins. They tried that when Young Clark saves the kids on the bus but then ruin it when his dad tells him he shouldn't do that. If Clark had defied him and said "I won't do that, I want to protect people" then what came next might have worked. Instead he just navel gazes and only helps people if he happens to see them on his quest to find out who he is and if it somehow affects him. (like the Trucker)
It doesn't take much to change the entire tone of MOS and a good director would have been able to do that.

To me sending him into the Black Hole is no different than putting him in the Phantom Zone.

I'll just reply to both seeing as you both effectively say the same thing, I don't think Ultraman will be dead either, but Superman & indeed we don't know that. Superman at bare minimum knows/believes nothing good will be through that black hole judging by how he was scrambling to save himself & Baby Joey from getting sucked through it when he was trapped in the pocket universe.
Personally speaking I think both the MoS & Superman villain endings were done well, I'm obviously in the minority with that but that's just me.
Just to toss another one back at you, if Ultraman survived getting swallowed by a black hole & ends up returning as Bizzaro at some point, would this not walk a similar sort of line as Zod being resurrected & turned into Doomsday in BvS?

He saves people earlier in the oil rig explosion
He isnt just saving people he grew up with. MoS is FAR from a perfect Superman movie but he isnt just letting people die left and right. It doesnt matter if he spent most of the film not trusting people.
In Superman, Clark has 3 additional people helping him in half of these fights. He takes on a singular monster monster, a singular hammerman or whatever his name is, and Engineer/Ultraman who aren't even attacking civilians. It isn't 3 kryptonian criminals who he is taking on 1:1

He is brand new. He isnt a superhero yet. Teen Clark isnt out here all the time saving everyone around the world. He saves them where he's at. That does not make him bad.Go back and read what I said again. He saved the people on the rig because he just so happened to be filming an episode of Deadliest Catch. (he ran into them on his quest to find out who he is) He saved people in Smallville because that is where he grew up. You made my point for me...especially because he basically saves no one in Metropolis which he has no affinity for.
In Superman he is getting flack because he flew in to stop a war with countries he has no connection to. (in BvS Lois is there so he has to go save her) He saves animals and even wants to save a Kaiju. He goes out of his way to save people all over the place including helping the guy who has turned his body into kryptonite and is killing him. Hell he is still trying to convince The Engineer even after she helped destroy the Fortress, slaughtered his robots and kidnapped his dog.
The storytelling is just better. You are given an opportunity to see who he is and what he stands for. The amount of saves isn't what does it, it is how he does it that works. If Snyder would have let his Superman show that kind of humanity for the average person Cav-El would have connected more. And I said that while I was defending that film back when it was released. We were promised that was coming, that Superman would evolve, be he never did because they decided to kill him as a McGuffin for Justice League.
I used to like the ending to MOS...but it aged very badly. If they would have used the trauma he felt for killing someone as his reasoning for not wanting to kill it could have been something great. But he was the same character at the beginning of BvS...there was almost zero growth. He kills that dude holding Lois hostage (no human survives that) and he is menacing and threatening to Bruce to the point you could totally see him killing Batman if he had to and then he of course kills Doomsday. They wanted a Superman that could go Injustice on the bit, and that is what they got.
And I think the difference between Bizarro/Ultraman and Zod/Doomsday is Doomsday's origin never had anything to do with Zod he was created 200k years ago in an effort to create a being that could survive on prehistoric Krypton through accelerated evolution. One of Bizarro's origins has always been the imperfect clone created by Lex.
MOS Superman would have saved people during the Metropolis fight. The film showed that it was in MOS Superman's nature to save/help people, even if that Superman was more of the lone wanderer type of character.
However, the problem lies in the creative team (Snyder and writers). For whatever reason, they chose not to include a scene or two during the Metropolis fight to show Superman saving civilians or being actively concerned for their safety.
Instead they got caught up in the visuals and "action porn." And the fight was exciting to watch. Yet including a few extra scenes to show that Superman trying to protect civilians from all the chaos would have gone a long way towards blunting that particular criticism of the film.
