The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Just to echo the sentiments of nearly everyone on here.
This is just such a breath of fresh air.
I'm not going to sit here & rag on the DCEU or go into how stale the MCU has become, but this just looks & feels like something completely different.
One more trailer for me to see some more Lois & Clark & some more Lex & I'm good - I can go into the film happy.

So given that Gunn has said most of the trailer & now this sneak peak footage is at the start of the film, do we think it's the Kaiju that causes his injuries?
And the clip of Lex in his tower turning with that look on his face & saying "he's back" - is that likely to be after he's been healed in the fortress?

I personally think since we know it breathes fire onto Supes, the kaiju is what causes his burnt-but-otherwise-intact appearance later in the film, so I'm guessing this is from something else. And since this is the beginning of the film, we may not even see what it was. Perhaps just hear about it. I do agree the "he's back" is probably him returning after this scene, though. Might be Lex's intro in the movie.

Same. 1st trailer was all about grandeur, hope and tone, have the 2nd be about character relationships and romance, with a good taste of what Clark's characterization will be like, and I'm all set. Might even skip the "exclusive clips".

This looks like everything I've been wanting from a Superman film for ages. Everything about it just works for me so well. There's so much sincerity and polish in the visuals and production design, it's just so beautiful.

I'm not one of those people that has always been a huge fan of Gunns humor, but the Gaurdians films are genuinely solid, and I still think TSS is the best DCEU film. Based on everything I've seen and heard, this is probably gonna become one of the best CBM's in recent memory. and a MUCH needed jolt to the genre. I'm ready.

I would bet the official trailer will focus on Lois and Clark's relationship, dialogue between the two that drives the footage, maybe some shots of Clark with Pa on the farm, and then compilation buildup with a snippet of David in one of the big action sets. Should land on that high action note to set the stage for release.

Just came across an interesting thread on "X" where a DCU fanpage resurfaced a leaker on Reddit by the name of No-Earth3649. In 2024, they leaked the exact logo of the suit Gunn would use and the design for the Superman robots (which turned out to be spot on). An interesting thing they said was to watch out for Superman Robot #5. Makes me think this is an evil robot that turns on the Fortress team and is somehow programmed by Luthor who is behind killing of Kelex. They also mentioned stay alert for Lex Troopers.

Thought that was an interesting tidbit. The page has since been wiped on Reddit (they revealed a couple other things along the way).

Don’t know if anyone’s mentioned it here, but when Supes and Krypto enter the Fortress, there’s a voice speaking (presumably) Kryptonian in the background that sounds an awful lot like
Bradley Cooper

I'm guessing the man in black does this.
It could however be caused by some kind of threat we've yet to see though.

Dave the Film Junkie brought this up on one of his live streams. Watching it back over a few times, I tend to agree.

I'm not going to be original: I really enjoy this sneak peek!

So yeah, I can see how the joke with Krypto (which characterizes it right away) might give someone pause, but really I think it's more because you're afraid the gag is going to be heavy-handed than anything else. It goes by very quickly, I don't feel it derails the scene at all.

I love the look of the costume. I've always championed the trunk, and they've nailed it: the retro “strongman” vibe is there, as it should be. And I love the slight bagginess, the way it feels like real fabric. Of course, I could have done without the line, but most of the time, you can already forget about them and all that's left is a suit that, I think, perfectly captures its iconic source.
And the Fortress... The giant portal, the robots wearing capes, the big lenses to catch the sun's rays... That's the vibe I wanted, very Silver Age but without making fun of it. It's really fresh to have this kind of science fiction today, and I hope to see a lot more of it in the film!

I wasn't always sure about the picture quality, but it doesn't look too smooth here. In any case, I love the colors and once again, it's nice not to see a comic-book that doesn't want to look like the real world.
If I had to nitpick, the sound design at the very beginning is a bit off to me but I'm pretty sure that's not the final edit of the scene so... yeah, there's nothing here. But I'm still iffy on the main theme being so close from Williams' though...

Very happy with what we got!
Makes me optimistic for what's coming next.

------

Last thing, there's a detail in this scene that made me think of a specific plot point from the leak... I'll expand on that in the spoilers thread. It's related to what you said @Sawyer.

Yeah, saw that speculated online yesterday.
Definitely sounds like an alien language

Have you noticed that part of the score when the Fortress appears is also the DC Studios theme?

Yeah I'd guess this will be part of the opener, maybe leading into credits. Timeline wise, I feel like things said in interviews make me think its in medias res, but then we go back a bit to how we got there.

Cause of injuries? My money is on the stadium fight. Does anyone remember that BTS clip of
The engineer and man in black circling him while he struggles to stand up and then flies away?

I'd bet it's that.

A
I think it definitely has a chance at being a hit for absolute sure. The freshness is off the charts, and even the films most ruthless haters won't be able to help themselves from taking that double look on what exactly this film will achieve. Mix that in with Gunn's good fortunes with critics (who rejected Snyder's vision overall, especially during the height of its most importance) and there you will have good energy and vibes heading into July (where spirits are high with summer in full throttle for the kids). Then you will have families interested with a hooked demographic the studio is targeting and before you know it, this thing can have the ever-so important legs.

But a lot needs to happen and go right, obviously. But the signs are there to have that healthy shot at landing on all four wheels..or paws.
Alright I just got my tickets for Sinners. I still don’t understand why Marvel didn’t ask Coogler to direct Blade. I believe Sinners is WB’s counter to Disney’s Blade but I digress. The reason I brought Sinners up the price of movie tickets is out of control. $27 for an adult ticket is ridiculous. People will continue wait and stream average to bad movies at home. I just saw Nicholas Holt’s vampire movie at home the other day and quite enjoyed it.

Immediately picked up on that. I’m guessing it’s sort of meant to symbolize that Superman is the foundation which the rest of the DCU will be built upon, or like sort of an invitation saying to us, “Hey, the door’s open! Come on in and explore this new universe with us. This is just the start and there’s more yet to come.”

I swear, there are a box of superlatives that people seem to have ready in the chamber for anything Superman, and 'corny' is one of them.

I don't really see anything 'corny' about this sneak peek. It's got humor and heart.

Feels like sincerity and earnestness is seen as 'corny' to a lot of people, these days.

Does Brainiac count?
Not that I'm saying he's in this, just in general

Yeah Brainiac is someone we need to see in this movie or the next. I think the AU version was actually a Kryptonian and so I’ll allow it if that’s the one they go with. Though I prefer that he be a sentient AI (likely built from Kryptonian tech) and that would be the likely version they would go with given how everyone is afraid of AI these days. The tagline writes itself.

BRAINIAC IS COMING FOR EARTH

AND YOUR JOB.

But, don’t you know, Elmo said that empathy is a weakness that must be purged, and bullying, lying, discriminating, stealing from and spewing hatred towards the undeserving and oppressed is what real God-fearing Americans do. :o
