The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

The Batman was a big hit.
It was highly acclaimed and made money but there is a reason we will get a DCU Batman cast in the next year. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman should be at the top of the Superhero chain. WB sees what is going on at Marvel. Blood has spilled in the water. WB is a great white shark.

A CBM could be light, funny and silly while still having the kind of substance and quality The Batman had. There are really deceptively complex, wonderfully rich children's movies. I have no idea how substantive Superman is but the idea that being "light"/fun and lacking complexity are the same thing is false IMO.

Stick the DCU Batman in team-up/ensemble movies while Reeves finishes up his saga. Not all that complicated.
Honestly? I think that's what they're doing. Obviously we don't know for sure but World's Finest feels like the obvious answer to what Gunn's "Sort of Superman sequel" is.

And even The Brave and the Bold can be repurposed into a Bat Family movie with Batman as just one of several main characters. There's really no urgent need for a solo Batman movie in the DCU while Reeves is filling that void. If Gunn really wants to set his Batman apart from Reeves' and disabuse audiences of any sort of confusion, lean into the Bat Family.

Oh, and trunks. :o

One thing this movie is doing is reigniting my love for the movie-going experience. It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve been this excited to go to the theatre.
For me, things like this are GREAT to hear because it flies in the face of the belief that "people want to see more than just comic book films" at the theatre.

Give them some that GENUINELY look like a good time at the movies, and the audiences WILL turn out.

If they really wanted to set the DCU Batman apart (and set the internet on fire) they could do a live action version of this

I hope the plan is if Superman is a hit Get someone to start a pitch for a solo sequel while Gunn does his sort of sequel to it(e.g Worlds finest).

i'm seeing a number of people online complain about the cgi, but i'm watching this latest trailer on youtube on my laptop just now and it all looks pretty great to me.

I think it's moreso about some camera angles people aren't feeling. The CGI looks fine for the most part. It's the lighting and framing that feels off here and there. The dynamism of the movement partnered with these bright exterior scenes might be throwing people off.

I also don't think the CG is very good but the lighting and angles are what's really off-putting. That shot of Superman knocking a dudes teeth out with a blank expression is revolting.

I know everyone is hesitant to use the ‘B’ word when it comes to the box office predictions…. But you can just feel it in the air, this thing is gonna be biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigView attachment 137757
That's me. Atm, I'm on the 800/850 mill train. But it could definitely hit a B, especially IF it's as good as it looks to be.
OW sales and WOM will tell the tale.

Lots of ifs here, but If it has a 165 to 180 ow, and if it has good wom, then it will be darn close to hitting a B.
It will definitely scare it.

Even though I don't like the look of this film at all, I'm really hoping it does big numbers. There's a lot against it and Gunn deserves the win. He certainly hit all the right notes with this version of Superman I've been waiting to see for a long time. I'll be there.

My only compliant is, they don't seem to be giving us the lesser known character films most of us want to see.

Films like the question, booster gold, deadman, captain atom, etc.
I don't really care about Sargent rock or clayface.
And I'd love to see a Lex origin film pre Superman. It Could be done relatively cheap.

The money isn't why we get a DCU Batman cast in the next year. The Batman was conceived as standalone movie/franchsie by Matt Reeves. It's a 3 hour movie with a detective movie twist. And many people didn't give it a chance because they didn't trust them to come up with a good Batman movie after BVS, and it came on the heels of the DCEU. The movie was critically acclaimed AND a big hit.

Well, movies aren't a restaurant menu where you pick what you want.

Oh I know that. I've been around enough to know.
Thankfully so. Most of the time, fans dont' really know what they want. They THINK they know what they want, and catering to them can backfire very easily. Thankfully, (good) filmmakers know better, and actually take on the challenge to surprise fans with their choices.

P.S.: I do care about Clayface and Sgt. Rock. :P

I also care about the other characters you've mentioned. But don't think they need to shoot their shots all at once.

Remember: There’s still more people to meet. More opportunities to come. And more chances to try. Live, learn, apply.

If a there can be a superhero with two different variants on the big screen at the same time it’s Batman. I think that is what WB wants. They want the Reeves trilogy and they want a DCU Batman. The only real similarities is there name. I am 100% behind two Batmen. A real world Bats for Reeves and a fantastical Bats for Gunn. Both can be successful.

I agree.
