The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Gotta say, all the reactions are really intriguing to me. I haven’t seen such a combo of overall strong positive sentiment mixed with “all over the place” in a while for a major event film like this. Some people I've expected to dislike it have loved it and people I've expected to love it were less enthused.

The one thing I’ve been confident about from the very beginning has been the cast, so I’m going in with zero doubts on that front and hoping if nothing else the character work carries this for me.

Very possible. It will have to have very good wom to get the international folks out to see it, otherwise, 300 mill will be pushing it..

I could see this making only 280 foreign but 380 to 400 mill domestic.

The majority of its money is going to be made domestic "IF" the foreign markets stay home.

Still, it's way too early to say. we'll have a pretty good idea come Sunday night, monday morning on what will happen.
We kind of know the OS WOM though. It's not fire. Competing with JW in a lot of key markets in Europe. Asia is DOA but it is for pretty much all superhero movies that aren't big events these days. They just aren't feeling it like they use to. But Latin America is looking quite good in terms of WOM and BO.

@Herolee10

RT is at 82% with 311 reviews. Hope that eases your trepidation my friend :)

Thanks for letting me know. :)

I'm currently trying to figure out on where we can expect the score to settle on after receiving a certain amount of reviews.

I'm not too worried about BO especially internationally those markets are just hard to read. I would expect a sequel to do better in some of those markets.

I have a feeling Europe will end up better than we expect...but it might take a bit.

Where it is. Rarely do RT scores change much after 300 reviews. Might see a percent up or down, but that's about it.

I think the issue with Europe is JW is still doing the business and F4 is not far behind. So there will be a bit of crunch.

Lol I know. I saw. It was never going to stay in the upper 80s or lower 90s.
I think it will probably settle in at around 80 or 81. It Might even hit 78 or 79. That's still good.

Well it will probably hit around 400 reviews so to stay in the 80s it will need 320 fresh reviews. With the numbers I gave you it has around 255 positives. So it needs 65 positives out of the next 89 reviews to stay in the 80s. (Roughly 73%)

Not impossible it drops below but it doesn't seem likely. Honestly the floor is really 75% and that would take roughly half of all the next 89 reviews being bad. 2/3rds and it drops to 78%.

If I was a betting man it probably settles at 80/81 but I'm not on this stuff. Hell this is the most I have ever cared about RT I find it stupid and ruins films.

Probably true. I am not expecting huge numbers in any way I just haven't given up yet ;)

But thankfully the film shouldnt need it :)

One thing is for sure, we will 100% get a sequel, and several more appearances of this Superman in other heroes films.
Will most likely see Clark every year. Next year in Supergirl, potential sequel/team up style flick in 2027. Hoping we see him in GL for a sec. A Peacemaker cameo has to happen, right?

I think he and Lex will be the nick fury of the DCU.
Both will be popping up everywhere. Lois probably will as well since she's a well known reporter.

I would compare Clark more to Tony or Steve. A front facing superhero that will make plenty of cameo, but will also have meatier appearances.

Right now I expect Guy, Terrific, Hawkgirl, even Jimmy to be more of Furys/Coulsons.

I’m will be concerned until the end of next weekend, when I know it didn’t have a 60%+ collapse. I’ve seen too much. :weeping:
High chance it does. But that has less to do with the WOM and more to do with it being a summer release, so weekdays eat up some weekend numbers. And with AMC adding the extra discount days, Tues and Weds should be good business.

I thought the theater employee would know that. :o

I will be shocked if he’s not in Peacemaker tbh. They were in production partially at the same time, so David was still in Superman mode, and Gunn took a little break from Superman to direct an episode.

Yeah, I'm with you.

Plus with the Peacemaker cameo in the movie, they know people have to be expecting it.

I am just waiting to see what the numbers are on Sunday. At this point, I did my part. I enjoyed the movie. The BO will be what the BO will be at this point. But I believe in hope, and I think this will get a sequel in the end.

I’ve spent over 150 bucks on tickets the last two viewings, I’ll be using my AMC A-List pass for however many else times I choose to see it. (it will be several more)

Already crossed $40 million in preview screenings this week

I think the people are ready to believe in hope again, I’ve heard that’s pretty punk rock these days
That's not all preview screenings, right? The moves opened in multiple places right? I think it has two days worth of sales in France at least. There is the time zones of Asia and Oceania. A lot of places open on Wed/Thurs in general. And not just the North America, show up at 2pm (which I did).

Yeah, they didn't read the article. It's in the first two paragraphs:

DC/Warner Bros’ Superman has begun zipping around the world, ringing up $40.3M through two days from North America and 57 overseas markets. The split there is a record-making $22.5M in domestic previews , while $17.8M has come from the international box office so far.

The James Gunn-directed latest installment about the Man of Steel debuted in nine offshore markets on Wednesday, with another 48 markets joining on Thursday. Today adds another 21, which takes the total number of international territories in release to 78.

The Cult? Honestly, when I was looking for spoilers on Reddit after the Tuesday previews...
You would be shocked by many people were under the impression/assumed that Cavill would be playing Ultraman and were surprised it was David and not Henry.
Honestly,
with the longer hair, Ultraman actually looked a bit like Henry
