The Dark Knight The Dark Knight FAQ (Check here first)

Heath will be fine - he is a fantastic, oscar nominated actor - Nolan could of chose anyone (including villian master - Paul Bettany) for the role, and he chose Heath Ledger. Thats says all I need.

i'm really, really, REALLY, not sure about Heath. I think Nolan has made a big mistake picking him, period.

I have all the faith in the world for Ledger. Honestly, Nolan saw something in him for his take on the character. I loved Bale's and Nolan's words on his commitment to the role. Being talented but at the same time "fearless." You can't do something unless you devote your full attention toward it. Things only make sense when you force them to. He isn't the first choice for the role to A LOT of people, trust me. But if you put it in perspective, if he DOES succeed with the role, and everyone is pleased with his performance, those same people will praise him for it. It's guaranteed.

Alriiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. :D:D

PWNAGE by Batman and Norman. That's one sweet pic, Bats.

I also addressed the issue of criticizing actors who are rumored for roles in this movie. I mainly brought it up because the rumor of Phillipe wasn't too pleasing to everyone's interest. And really, how many different actors were rumored for The Joker until Ledger was cast? Quite a few. So its not for certain if Phillipe has been chosen for the role.

All I'm saying is we should try to keep criticism at a minimum, and wait for the movie to debut.

So we should not state our opinions about actors whose name shows up in rumors? I don't believe so. I believe that Philipe is an off the wall, odd, (frankly) poor choice for Harvey Dent. Nolan may disagree with me - fine. I may be 100% wrong and Philipe may be cast and may have an oscar winning performance playing Harvey Dent - fine, let me recieve heat for that when the time comes. However as of right now, given all I have seen of Philipe - I think he is a poor pick for Dent.

That's not what I'm saying. If you read my post in the Harvey Dent thread, you will clearly understand what I posted here.

I'm all for opinions for this movie. I'm just a little annoyed with constant criticism of rumors. Its a rumor, thats all it is. At least wait for confirmation.

I have criticisms' of my own for this movie, but I try not to show it all the time.

And please, everyone has a right to express their opinion, so please do that.

I guess I just dont see the problem with the criticism of rumors - I mean as long as they are made for a quality reason (not - THAT GUY PLAYED A GAY COWBOY HE IS TEH GAY!!!1!!). We do not get enough real news to limit ourselves on what we talk about on this forum really - lol.:(

I'm not takin issue with the criticism of a rumor, its more about the actor who is rumored for a role in TDK.

And some folks don't find it pleasing that Phillipe could possibly be cast as Dent. Phillipe isn't one of my favorite actors, and by no means might have I thought he could play the role of Dent, its more of a suprise to me. I feel that Ledger was a suprise pick for The Joker as well. That doesn't mean Phillipe couldn't give a brilliant performance or fail miserably with the role.

Some may not like Phillipe or Ledger, and thats okay. But as for as giving criticism toward the actor about the role the actor may be cast as, that's a little different in my opinion.

So basically, my few posts were about giving praise and criticism to the actor before we've seen the movie.

Another report from BOF. This interview has been posted in a thread of its own in the forum too.

Author: Jett
Wednesday, August 23, 2006 - 9:54 AM CENTRAL TIME: Nolan has finally spoken publicly about the upcoming film, THE DARK KNIGHT. Via BETTERTHANFUDGE.COM, here’s a bit of what the director had to say:

Regarding the theme of the film: “I suppose in loose terms I can say it’s about things having to get worse before they get better.”

Can anything be inferred from the title of the film? “Ultimately yes. But I’ll leave that for people to infer The title has been chose very specifically. It’s quite important to the film.”

Will The Joker be different that past live-action interpretations? “Yes. I would certainly point to The Killing Joke but I also would point very much to the first two appearances of The Joker in the comic. If you look at where The Joker comes from there’s a very clear direction that fits what we’re doing very well.”

Thanks to all the BOF'ers who sent in the info...

The word going around is that there may be some new THE DARK KNIGHT news coming in September. The last time I heard such rumblings was just prior to the Ledger/TDK announcements...

I'm trying to keep all the BOF reports in one thread at least. Keeps things nice and organized. And its good for reference when backtracking for TDK news.

Exactly!

Nolan and Bales comments about Ledger being Joker....is all I need to hear!

BOF says that we should wait for new news next month.
Hopefully that means more on script/plot details. But nothing too revealing. As well as who is nearing closer to the role of Harvey, or atleast a bit of insight on whether or not Nolan has someone in mind already. Also, who and how many characters are left to be named "officially". (Black Mask, Maroni, Arkham)

It was nice seeing that Bale had as much faith in Ledger as Nolan does. Saying how "passionate" he is about the role. And how he was up to date on what happend with Begins. Especially the mentioning of how Bale expects to see something unique from him.

First page updated with Nolan's views on the interpretation of Joker.

It's nice to hear, but remember that these are their co-workers. Not exactly going to say anything remotely negative about them.

With that said, I'm cautiously optimistic with Ledger.

Christian Bale doesnt seem like the type of guy to spew a bunch of BS simply to help a film.

He's also not the disrespectful type either. If there were anything, he'd probably sidestep and say something like, "I'm looking forward to what he does with the role and make it his own".

As of yet, there hasn't been any reports on the status of any other vehicles in the film. Nor if whether or not the batmobile will under go any kinds of modifications.

Update from Joblo.com:

The folks over at "Insomniac Maniac" have spoken with comic Joker creator Jerry Robinson and were informed that he'd be consulting on the portrayal of The Joker in the film. Read about that HERE. Finally, it wouldn't be an appropriate DARK KNIGHT update without some rumor mongering and it just so happens the folks over at "Film Focus" are saying that Ryan Phillipe may be experiencing a psychotic dual personality in the sequel as the infamous Harvey Dent aka Two-Face. THE DARK KNIGHT is scheduled for release Summer 2008.
