The Dark Knight The Dark Knight Merchandise Returns

Possible but I can't believe it. Why go through all the motions of generating said product only to cancel for no reason. It's not like the Movie Masters line didn't sell.

It would seem that the Movie Masters are cancelled (from a post in the products forum):

"Matty: We did look into doing a Gordon figure but until we get stronger commitments from retailers to carry more Movie Masters we won’t be going forward. We are working hard at this to try and get retailers interested in more figures though as we really want to get to Gordon and others."

Mattel have only themselves to blame for waiting so long between waves.

I'd still like an official announcement from Mattel. Why would retailers not want to carry probably THE hottest toy of 2008??

Because it's the hottest toy of 2008. They want to sell the hottest products of 2009.

But it's merch from the highest grossing superhero movie of all time. So why wouldn't they want to carry merch from the highest grossing superhero movie of all time?

Hot Toys is still wisely in the TDK business.

and the 'current year' thing is kinda stupid because some things always have a built-in fanbase. They'll be selling Star Wars **** forever because the mutants will always buy it.

You know and I know, that if mattel had the balls to put these new toys on the shelves, it would be the summer of '08 all over again, with all of us wanting to put a power drill through our temples after pointlessly searching for these elusive little ****ers.

We all remember 200 dollar ebay jokers and chase figures. This line has legs--period. Mattel just has to find a way to get them to the consumers if they want to make some money--because I can guarantee that these will move fast once they are released.

Because when it comes down to it they're action figures. Toys. Sold at toy stores. For kids to buy.

TDK? Not really a kid's superhero movie. Iron Man? yeah. Spider-man? Duh.

Just like the Star Trek toys won't last long. Kids just won't get all that into it.

Sure, us collectors will snatch them up, but compared to everyone else we're a small percentage of customers. And toy companies don't really want to make us happy. They want to rake in crazy moneys. And if we're the only ones buying those figures that ain't enough.

Hot Toys is still pumping out TDK figures because they're not toys. You can't find them at TRU or Target. The quality is better (actually the quality is stunning) and therefore the price is higher. Kids don't have jobs to afford a $150 figure. But we do. Because we're adults/collectors.

I'm an enormous Indiana Jones fan and that toy line was canceled early this year because of poor sales. IMO Indy 4 would be more of a "kids' movie than TDK. So why wouldn't kids want the toys from all the action scenes? Because they aren't all that familiar with the character.

Kids want to play with what they know. A mutilated terrorist clown, a half burnt politician, a drug dealer wearing a potato sack on his face, and a tortured billionaire playboy doesn't catch their attention. At least Nolan's vision doesn't....yet.

You make some very funny comments, and offer a mostly well reasoned response. However, I feel that you are missing the real point:

When these things were impossible to find (stories on these very boards of people raiding back storerooms, opening boxes of unscanned figures, waking up early, driving to location after location)--was that because of kids--or collectors?

Plus you're missing that Batman is one of many eternally viable brandnames that kids will ALWAYS love and ALWAYS buy. You also know that kids love the new batman movies--the movie didn't earn 500 mil off adults alone.

You both make good points and are making me :funny:
I agree with both of you. :hehe:

And for the record I still hope these things get made / get sold whether it's mass distribution or thru mattycollector.com.

Just minutes ago, I saw what a teaser trailer of what it seemed to be The Dark Knight video-game. The trailer only consisted in the Joker saying "Let's put a smile on that face" and then an explosion of cards fill up the screen while he laughs. Then, the Dark Knight symbol takes over the screen, reading -6/13/2009. What's this al about? Tried searching for it but couldn't find any info.

WTF are you talking about? Where did you see this? Did it mention any type of website or company?

Sounds like he might have seen something fan made. As far as I know, the Dark Knight video game was canned long ago when the company developing it went under.

I was watching Forgetting Sarah Marshall on HBO last night and fell asleep while watching it. I woke up and saw some commercial and while I was getting up I just heard the "Let's put a smile on that face" line and just saw the Joker cards fill up the screen. I'm not 100% sure if it said 6/13/09, I could've mixed those numbers up but that I saw the teaser or whatever it was I am sure. I got online hoping you guys already knew something about this since I haven't been on these boards for a week (I was on vacation). Searched on youtube and nothing, so I don't know what it was but got me incredibly excited.

Maybe its The Dark Knight on HBO?

Seems logical to me.

Yes, didn't think about that. However, the cards looked digitally animated like a video game, and the TDK symbol was kind of different but then again you might be right.

Well I saw an online listing the other day for the MM Two Face and it was scheduled for august, so hopefully that will come to be.

I just can't get excited about figures like those anymore... all I can think when I look at them is "Well, save for a little while more and you could get a HT figure"
