Spidey will also make more on its first week (maybe not first 3 days because those are weekdays) than Dark Phoenix's Domestic Total.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

I actually think the first MCU X-Men film will outgross Homecoming. The advantage that the Mutants have over the wallcrawler is that they will have a longer break period between the failure of their last Non-MCU movie and their first MCU Spider-Man film becuase Marvel doesn’t have to adhere to the schedule set forth by another studio who still controls the rights. The have full and unlimited access to the Mutants so they could decide whenever they want to introduce them.

Ideally if Marvel had gotten the full Spider-Man rights after Spider-Man 3 and Marvel gave the webslinger a rest of five years or more years before rebooting him in the MCU. Homecoming would’ve undeniably done a billion dollars, imo. As they say ”abscence makes the heart grow fonder”. Let audiences miss the Mutants. Let them be gone enough to shake them out of their “ugh there still making more of these?” apathy. It helps that they take a lengthy hiatus. Some fans want a fast Spider-Man-like turnaround and I’d be good with that but after DP’s monumental failure it will require the Mutants to take a long rest.

Don't forget Fant4stic. That's exactly how all the FFINO defenders reasoned. They wanted people in these forums to go and see the movie for themselves (even after it looked so bad every step of the way through production). That way, it would then inflate the ticket sales as people would be duped into seeing it. It wouldn't have mattered that the film was bad and that you didn't enjoy the experience, as long as they got bums on seats by any means possible.

I remember some FFINO defenders wanted to go and see the movie 10 times. I wonder if they ever did make it past 1.
I saw it 4 times in theaters.

MCU must introduce solo movies of let's say Gambit, Storm, Cyclops, Cable, Xavier, Magneto, Jean, Iceman, Beast, Nightcrawler, Archangel, Rogue, Colossus, Forge, Kitty, Jubilee, Bishop, Mystique, Psylocke, Emma Frost etc. first before releasing an X-Men film. I imagine 4 or 5 movies in my mind before an X-Men movie. Otherwise it will be an eventual failure again because of Wolverine. They will depend on Wolverine again and when there's no Wolverine they will fail. Eventually Wolverine himself will start to fail because of character fatigue and indirectly X-Men will fail again regardless of Wolverine's presence or not. So, solo movies before an X-Men movie is very important to make audiences to care about other characters.

As for Wolverine and Deadpool, they'll continue to make a lot of money. As long as Marvel doesn't put himself in a position where they can't release a succesful X-Men film without Wolverine, everything should be fine.

I don't remember how I felt watching for the 3rd and 4th time.
Is it like having teeth pulled? After the second one, the pain level is maxed out, and your body just accepts it? There is an interesting case study here.

Also, looks like Boxofficemojo is forecasting a $13 million second weekend. OUCH. That's just embarrassing. This film probably won't even crack 100 million domestically. That's hilariously awful.

I think 100M is out of the question. I'm betting on 80M now (less than XO: Wolverine OW)

The bad news keep on coming.

Seriously, most of us here thought this movie was going to be bad for the franchise (or what's left of it). I certainly have been one of the more vocal critics of this movie and Kinberg's.

Of all our worst case scenarios, I don't think anyone thought this would get 23% on Rottentomatoes, $33Mil opening weekend, a significant decrease at the Worldwide box office, and now it's not even making the Top 5 (it's number 6) on its second weekend.

Edit: I just saw the 77% drop. OUCH. I thought it was a drop from last friday to this friday so I didn't pay attention to it. I didn't know they meant for the weekend. I remember Ang Lee's Hulk was dragged for having a 69% drop. 77% is just unheard of.

If that 77% projected drop does happen then Disney would be smart to just pull it from theaters. At this point this movie is just further damaging the brand and this is precisely the type of records and headlines they don’t need.

77% is gobsmacking.

I literally had to read the Deadline article twice to make sure I got it right. That’s less than 50 mil for first two weekends, right? With that large a drop, will it even make 70 mil domestic in total?

I've been pessimistic about this film since it was announced, but even I will be stunned if it drops that much. That's not bad, that's all-time territory.

77% would rival the highest drops of all time for a major big budget release, wouldn’t it?

Yes it would: Biggest Second Weekend Drops at the Box Office

Only Steel would have had a bigger drop in terms of comic book movies!

General Audiences outright rejected Simon Kinberg's directorial debut. If *that* Rottentomatoes score and *that* opening weekend haul, and *that* second weekend drop doesn't end this man's directing career, I don't know what will.
