DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

Funny we'll probably see Wonder Girl before Wonder Woman. 😆
I don't think I mind that much, could have the legend of Wonder Woman out there before we fully see the new Wonder Woman. Donna would offer something different for the audience for the get go too.

A classic roster doesn’t seem likely with Damian’s intro. And I guess we’ve already got a Jaime Reyes too.

Gunn told fans how amazing The Flash was too, so my expectations of Blue Beetle still being in the DCU aren't exactly high.

I think it'd be cool if they kind of took a cue from YJ and had the classic older titans ushering in the new recruits. Maybe make it a coming of age type story.

Gunn has confirmed multiple times we will see Blue Beetle in the new DCU.
Are we sure this isn't Peacemaker Season 2 where Xolo's Blue Beetle will be in the DCU, but his movie is not?

The movie is not in the DCU. Gunn has also confirmed that. Just the character/actor.

I’m so confused!!!
Basically while the events of the Blue Beetle movie may not exactly be Canon to the new DCU, the character exist there already and will be reprised by his actor. Similarly with Peacemaker, and Waller.

Oh I was being silly. I think it's fairly straightforward.

I'm more confused about why it's confusing for people.

Nothing is Canon until Creature Commandos.
I think Gunn saying a "rough memory of things* is him being generous.

I'm personally not gonna consider anything previously seen in the DCEU relevant to these "new" iterations of the characters unless they mention it again.

Ah he can pull a Feige and retcon it later. :o

I think he’s downplaying not being generous. I think if Gunn made it it’s 100% canon outside of certain casting.

nobody thought it's confusing when Judi Dench reprised M in Casino Royale. it's the same thing here.
True, but Die Another Day and Casino Royale also weren't directed by the same person who made it clear that they intended to keep actors from the previous continuity and bring them into the new one.

I kinda wish Gunn just hadn’t included that stupid JL cameo at the end of Peacemaker. It added nothing and honestly made them look like a bunch of useless A-holes, considering that characters like Superman and the Flash could have at least gotten Harcourt and Economos medical attention a lot faster than Peacemaker could have. Plus it gave us another insufferable Ezra moment. Just a needless inclusion in an otherwise amazing show.

Yeah but most people have no idea what he has said about the universe.
Yeah, no one in the GA is gonna find this confusing, because lbr, most of the GA ain’t even checking for Suicide Squad characters in the first place. If any of them do want to look into it, the answer will be easily found by a quick Google search. It’s really NOT that complicated outside of anyone obsessed with canon continuity. Superman will simply be a fresh start as far as most people will be concerned, and if he interacts with Amanda Waller or something, the only people batting an eye at that will be the ones already nerdy enough to know the score.

I am so sick of the whole “cannon” and shared universe fixation. It was a cool gimmick when Marvel first did it, but now it hamstrings all creativity. I really wish that DC would care more about making quality films than being beholden to a shared universe.

I mentioned this on another thread, but in my dream scenario, there would be room for small budget, standalone niche, period and/or genre DC films for characters like Christopher Chance, Richard Dragon and the Spectre.
But that is not likely at all as long as everything has to be in a shared universe so we can be just like Marvel.

It is a complete lack of innovation or imagination and really is disappointing.
