That doesn't necessary mean that Felicity's character will be ruined. It's not the melodrama that ruined Laurel, and it's not like the absence of it would suddenly make her the most loved character. Her character was ruined the moment they cast Katie Cassidy.
Different actresses will have a different way of interpreting or acting out melodrama. EBR has a different personality and acting style to KC.
nobody complained about Laurel in season 1,people didnt start complaining about Laurel until she turned on the hood in season 2,once again a creative decision, but from my understanding from writers Laurel is good for ratings, because she is an escapist character for girls which is 50% of the audience.
Another example was huntress, nobody complained about huntress until she went on a killing spree,
because she had dinner with Laurel and Ollie and got jealous. Once again this was bad writing, not the actors fault
That's not true. A lot of people didn't like her in Season 1, including myself. She was the worst, and Willa Holland was marginally better (but did look a lot better), and it was only until they added Felicity into the cast that there was a girl I actually liked in the show.
Im looking through thethread archives, the kill Laurel threads did not start until
season 2 aired.

Not a big fan of the way the show handled Huntress. My issue with Laurel is she's not very interesting and usually doesn't really have a lot to do that does make her interesting. I like Felicity. She's cool and funny and often has a lot of things to do that make her more interesting. The show is also clearly playing up the romance angle between them even if it is just winks and nods.
But the question is why a) are fans more interested in following EBR than Katie Cassidy and b) why doesn't KC come across as interesting enough for the writers to want to write for her?
Could it be that KC herself isn't a great actress but rather dull? It's not like she lights up the screen or has chemistry with her co-stars. She's not exactly a barrel of laughs and she doesn't bring great talent to the table.
I honestly don't miss her at all when there's a show where she doesn't feature (like in the current 2-parter).
EBR, on the other hand, is far more interesting to watch. So the writers are going to focus on her.
