The Expendables 3 - Part 1

The younger team was ok , but I just didn't care for them. It took some of the excitement away. The last act and Mel Gibson were awesome. None of the good guys die so it makes the dramatic tension seem weird. They should of killed a couple of them off to make room. I don't understand it. Also they seemed to be lacking in one liners this time around . I loved Arnie saying get to the choppa. Three people laughed .... My audience sucked. I want to see action stars fighting other action stars. We've gotten very little of that. I was hoping Statham and Snipes would of gone at it toward the beginning. Plenty of action , but this was a disappointment. I'd still like to see a fourth with Jackie Chan and Nicolas Cage involved. Maybe we could get a showdown between Chan and Li.

what I dont get is why did stallone try to wait in the "last" entry for the series to introduce a whole new team of no bodies and low level actors when they should have focused on the big names invovled for the big exit. No one cares about ortiz or any of the young bloods, god knows I didnt and the movie suffered at that part in the film and became boring for me until snipes and others came back on screen.

You hit the nail on the head. It was like the movie just hit a lul at that point, and no one cared.

The only part of that, that I enjoyed was when Sly and Grammer were scouting talent. I thought Grammer did a great job and there were some really funny bits with him, and them finding Banderas.

You cut out the stuff with the young bloods, and add some more scenes with Gibson and Sly and more stuff with Snipes and the existing expendables, and it would have possibly been the best one of the three.

thats the problem I have with this franchise, stallone gives us fights no one cares about or ask for. We want to see the stars of the past fight each other, Not tito ortiz or some ex ufc fighter taking on terry crews. I wanna see snipes vs statham, gibson vs stallone, van damme vs statham. ford vs anyone besides helicopters. Not Rosey whatever vs a bunch of hencman.

The Rock needs to be in the next one...and Gerard Butler...and Hugh Jackman.

I wouldn't necessarily call myself a fan of the Expendables series, but I do tend to enjoy them for what they are. This one is probably my favorite though.

Didn't Gibsons character mention that he had a daughter ? I guess she can go after Barney & Co for revenge ? Simple enough for these movies

There's always been an animosity towards this series. It's been growing since the first one topped "Scott Pilgrim" at the box office in 2010.

There's no doubt the pirated copy of "Expendables 3" had a hand in its poor weekend opening. People say, "That had nothing to do with it; the movie was crap." "Transformers" is crap, but those movies do tremendously well.

TMNT and GOTG are still coming off strong weekends. Couple that with the leak, less-than-stellar reviews, and little-to-no word of mouth, and you get $16 million.

I enjoyed it for what it was, but would agree with other fans of 80s action movies that this series could've been so much better.

Where does this one take place? Cause I would have liked to see one of these take place somewhere like NY, LA, or Chicago. The first 2 have that random European DTV feel in their locations.

Just got out. Definitely the least of the three for me. It had potential to be the best too, and so many little things bring it down. The editing of the action is ugh, just plain ugh. The second act is such a dull drag and the young expendables are boring, unlikable and mostly useless. I wanted more Wesley. I wanted Arnold to do more. Mel was great and should have been given more to do. And yes the pg-13 really hurt. To know that knife guys like Statham and Snipes are really wrecking stuff up but to not be able to see it and feel it. So many little decisions mess this one up. I'm disappointed. Could have been so much more fun.

Really? Still bothered by the PG-13? The other Expendables barely qualify for an R-rating.

I still didnt see PG13 as that hurtful either. It was about about as brutal as the other two minus the blood. Still tons of people getting shot, necks snapped, etc/

Hard R with blood squibs and old school editing so that i can actually see the neck snaps, impalings, and blunt trauma so yes pg-13 is a massive problem, especially after seeing the movie and seeing the short cuts that were taken. The editing is terrible, the action shot badly. It felt like Taken 2 all over again, and you know what, i'm not talking about this in comparison to the expendables 1 and 2 (and at least i can see the action in 2), but to all the films these guys made in the 80s and 90s. They were brutal, they were practical, and it was all clear as day, so i will forever say a movie with the terminator, rambo, blade, chev chelios, martin riggs, a universal soldier, el mariachi, and jet li all being in it having a pg-13 is stupid and dishonest to that era.

But the series is pretty much a hard Pg-13 series from the get-go, I don't care what the rating says. If you're still paying money to these and you are still stuck on the PG-13 aspect, then its your own fault.

I get to watch movies for free, so if i had to pay i wouldn't have seen it so i'm not at fault of anything, and even though you don't care a lot of fans do and they spoke this weekend by not going. Like Spidey said it should have been hard R from the start, and yes it is one of the many things that matters.

I didn't say it wasn't important. I said its the third installment and it wasn't that different ratings wise from the last ones.

Fool you once, shame on them. Fool you twice, shame on you. Fool you a third time, well...

IF the series was hard R from the start like Commando or something then I could see PG13 being a major issue. But with these movies basically being PG13 I didnt really care that much.

The only Hard R moment that I can think of is the AA12 scene in EX1 and then the scene in EX2 where like 5 people shot some mook 1000 times with automatic weapons

I hope somehow someway they can do one more film just so they can end on a strong note. Ending the franchise like this is just depressing :(

IF it's not making money, with each sequel getting less and less dough, it's not going to happen. It wouldn't be a good investment for the studios. Though stranger stuff has happened in Hollywood.

Id be really surprised if this gets a sequel unless it gets huge numbers overseas or they make a sequel with a much smaller budget

Even though it wasnt that good of a movie, the idea of passing on the torch to younger characters seems like the best way to end it.

The overseas market is the saving grace for most domestic movies that bomb here.

These guys need to accept that this action hero thing is over.
I mean come on how many people really care about Rambo V or Statham's next action movie that isnt Fast 7?
At least Arnold has Terminator, but even that's a bit up in the air I think in terms of success.

I would say Stallone should go back to doing dramatic work like Rocky or Cop Land, but I honestly dont know how good he'd be in that anymore with all the plastic surgery and whatever else is going on with his voice. Statham should go back to working with Guy Ritchie. I don't know about everyone else though

I really think it's over. Or rather, it'll come back but in a few years with a new generation. Now it's just getting sad, with men past their prime missing their glory days.

I like Statham, I half care about his next action movie. I mean, his action movies have sucked lately, but Homefront was a cool watch. Stallone's got a drama coming out (but it looks like crap). He should be writing and directing new action movies, he's got skills in that area, skills he phones in with the Expendables movies. Arnold, too, I love Arnold on screen. He made Last Stand good, but he couldn't save Sabotage. I liked Escape Plan because it actually had a story and thrills not just excuses to shoot guns. Looking forward to Maggie, not looking forward to Terminator 5.

Anyways, its like these guys forgot how to make action movies. First Blood was not just some dumb shoot'em up, and I dug the last Rambo too. Die Hard and Lethal Weapon had real wit and personality. Just because all anyone wants to talk about after the movie is done is the action scenes doesn't mean that's the only area you put in work.

About Jason: Statham though, shouldn't be grouped in with Sly and Arnold since he's still much younger than the other two, plus he is seemingly immortal and can still kick butt.
